Do you only collect DYNASTY gowns or other Nolan Miller gowns? While browsing the other day I came across a picture of this gown. It's for sale on Etsy and says that it was designed by Nolan for his wife. I don't think there is anyway of knowing if this is true. Is there? It's a gorgeous gown and reminds me of the kind of thing Krystle wore on the show. Here's the link. https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/255430340/nolan-miller-couture-silk-gown-crystal

I owned a Sally Field gown from "Soapdish" and sold it when I was offered more Dynasty gowns. I currently own a Bette Davis gown sketch for the Oscars. But might sell that one too.

My main focus is Dynasty. However if a nice sketch comes along that's not Dynasty, I'd definitely be interested. Wardrobe wise the only non-Dynasty that really interests me is Elizabeth Taylor gowns.

If something really iconic like a Ginger gown from "Gilligan's Island" was available I would be interested in that too though.

For some reason though I feel it makes the collection more cohesive if it's all "Dynasty." Though I am open to non-Dynasty too.

This is the Krystle gown I'd really love to have. It was in the big 2001 auction (which I missed), and never seen any traces of it again.

That gown and the one that Alexis wore in the same episode are two of my very favourite DYNASTY outfits. I know Alexis wore a different skirt than what was originally designed for hers though. I do like the full length beaded skirt too which was worn by Ann Margret. I think Joan maybe wore the shorter skirt because she and her stunt lady were required to run and move around a lot in that episode.

That's my favourite look for Alexis. I love everything about it. It's also funny the way the wardrobe was designed for that episode. Usually Alexis would be in red or black or even gold or silver in those kind of party episodes. Here she is in snow white which looks stunning against her complexion and raven hair. While Krystle who is often in lighter more neutral colours, tan, beige, white is in black which also contrasts with her light blonde hair. It's a switcheroo of the already defined roles. Here the witch is in disguise, in the purest of white and the saintly Krystle in pitch black. I think its a very clever choice if it was indeed intentional.

Incidentally it occurred to me last night that there would have been two versions of each design for a lot of those dresses. I was watching something the other day and it said that there would be an outfit for the actor and a spare in case they spilled coffee or food on it, and then possibly a third if there was any stunt work performed. So there could be more than one version of many of those gowns out there.

The white beaded gown is great. I don't know why Joan wore that white plain skirt on Dynasty. The outfit is much more glamorous and dramatic with the full length beaded skirt as I think the design was intended. No way to really know why that happened! I was actually almost connected with the guy who owns this costume for the purpose of me buying it. But he wanted to sell 2 other Nolan Miller pieces that he thought were Dynasty worn as a package deal along with the white outfit (with long beaded skirt). The other 2 items are nothing I have ever seen, definitely not Dynasty costumes, so I had to decline.

Yes, Krystle's gown from this scene is very uncharacteristic of her usual look. In fact, the black with vibrant colored patterns seems much more befitting of Alexis. The cut of the gown is very Krystle though-- long sleeved, low cut V-neckline, and shoulder pads. I love this gown!

I don't think multiples were made of any of the outfits unless it was a catfight scene. Most of the expensive beaded gowns were 1 of a kind. Notice how no catfights were ever done in the formal beaded gowns. I guess no one had the heart to make Nolan create such an expensive and beautiful costume and then ruin it! Haha! However, I think you are right that the white outfit would have a duplicate because Joan's body double wears one too. (The scene where Alexis steps backwards as Blake lunges towards her... Bizarre that Joan considered this scene too dangerous to do herself. Maybe she was worried John's true feelings might get the better of him and he might strangle her for real!)

I liked the short skirt, it showed off her lovely gams. ;) Plus, maybe she wore that skirt to emphasize that she wasn't a member to Dominique's party that night: all the other women wore full length skirts because they were at a formal affair. Alexis was just dressed up for dinner, no need for a full length.

That's my theory too. ^^ I know some people criticize the fact that you can see the stunt woman's face, but if you know the story/theory behind it, it adds an extra bit of thrill to the scenario. Hence why I've come to like seeing Sandy's (the stunt woman) face when Blake lunges at her. :D

I Heard that Linda said the black gown was very heavy,I guess if you are wearing a full beaded gown it would be.Regarding the white one,I like both cuts.Maybe Joan thought the gown was to tight to move around in.It depends if the long one had a slit up the back.

Yes I guess the really detailed beaded gowns were one of a kind. Though there must be two of those blue satin things and the black and white wrap dress from the Lilly pond fight. And that gorgeous pink beaded suit that Sable wear in the season 9 finale, as I saw pictures of her with her stunt lady. I guess Alexis' black beaded outfit was copied too.

Ked, that is a great point. That is one logical theory. Alexis wearing the plane skirt differentiated herself from Dominique's formal party, where all the ladies wore full length gowns. Good thinking! Still... I like the full length beaded look better. Very Old Hollywood and dramatic.

Mike, the long beaded skirt has a high center slit up the front.

There are many gowns and costumes I would be interested in if I had the chance to get them, but I only have a few that are my very top favorites that I really hope to acquire. Hands down for Krystle it is the black beaded paisley gown and for Dominique her silvery lame gown with fur cuffed jacket. For Alexis the red satin jail gown. These 3 are above all others for me when it comes to which I hope I can find and add to my collection.

None of Sable's gowns from season 9 on Dynasty interest me. I don't think she even wore too many gowns on Dynasty, mainly cocktail dresses. Sable had beautiful gowns and costumes on "The Colbys", but I mainly want to focus on screen worn "Dynasty" costumes. Linda had tons of beautiful gowns made for her by Nolan that she wore for awards shows and Dynasty photo shoots, but they were never screen worn (on "Dynasty")-- which makes them less collectable and less valuable.

I also like Krystle's white beaded gown with gold leaves on the shoulders, Krystle's nude beaded from season 2, Alexis' gold lame gown from Carousel Ball, and Alexis' leopard sequin gown. It would also be cool to have Krystle's gown from the Black & White Ball since I have Alexis' gown. I know who owns the black and white Krystle gown, but the rest of these I have never uncovered.

Top gowns for Krystle, Dominique, and Alexis

Was Krystle's nude beaded gown altered to have sleeves? I think it pops up in a party scene in Jackie Collins' Hollywood Wives. An extra is wearing it in the back ground. And didn't Caress and Frankie Colby also wear it?

In that case, might I suggest the white gown she wore in season 6?

Nolan would get inspired by something and then create a bunch of similar looks. For example, Alexis' red velvet gown that she wore to the Black & White Ball was around the same time Nolan designed a bunch of period gowns for Elizabeth Taylor in "Poker Alice". Elizabeth loved the way they looked on her so he began incorporating that style and cut into her awards gowns. Soon after that look flowed onto "Dynasty" a few times. He went on a paisley tangent at one point. Season 6 had several paisley gowns and costumes, including the black paisley Alexis gown, and the blue beaded paisley dress suit Krystle (Rita) wears when the Colby's arrive.

Ked, that is an awesome Sable gown! I would happily take that one! :) Stephanie had the best figure!

Agreed, she had an amazing figure. She was so gorgeous and sexy and exotic and classy and... well, the list just goes on. lol

But yeah, that was arguably the only evening gown she wore on DYNASTY, now that I think about it. She wore cocktail dresses but that's it. No evening dresses to speak of. ^^ But oh well, she had a vast amount of exquisite gowns on THE COLBYS - enough to choke Cousin Alexis! ;D

Mike, yes Dominique's white gown with the sheer beaded sleeves is beautiful. I really like that look. Sheer fabric with beading on top, like the black beaded paisley Alexis gown I have. The only drawback is it was never worn on "Dynasty", just in the "Dynasty" intro. It is one of her nicest gowns though.

I sure hope I get the Krystle black and white ball gown! Thanks for the good vibes. Yes the owner has the cape and the gloves too.

Yes, I really like the white and black Sable gowns you selected. Sable had another white gown with a ruffled top and ruffled topped opera gloves. She looked great in white-- but then again, all the ladies did! I have never come across and Sable gowns yet.

Ked, I almost feel like Sable's wardrobe and jewels on The Colbys was better and more expensive than Alexis' on Dynasty. Sable had a different set of really nice costume jewelry with every outfit. On Dynasty the jewelry was recycled over and over.
