November 2010 . . .

A beautiful fall day on the Southfork Ranch. People gather throughout the house, somber. Gary approaches Sue Ellen by the fireplace in the living room. She longingly touches an urn on the mantle. “How ya holding up, Sue Ellen?”

Not evening looking at him, she answers, “I want a drink pretty damn bad.”

“Yeah I do too.”

“If I’d only seen his body, maybe I could accept it.”

“I don’t understand. Why didn’t you?”

“He left. JR just got up and left. His lawyer found him, identified him and had him cremated all before anyone knew what had happened. I mean we knew he’d been ill, not that he shared anything with anyone.”

“Not even Bobby?”

“No. Just that he was having trouble getting around.”

“I’m sorry Sue Ellen. JR never made anything easy on anyone.”

“No he didn’t. But time came I realized, it takes two to fight and I wasn’t gonna do it anymore. That’s when Bobby and I sold him Ewing Oil.”

“He ended up with everything he ever wanted. And died alone.”

“But he didn’t have to. If he’d told me . . .”

“Sue Ellen you can’t live with what-ifs.”

“You know when he found out about Ellie, he wasn’t even mad. Just grinned and said he understood why I kept her from him. And boy does she love her daddy. No matter where she was, she was flying back to be with him.”

“He loved his kids, that’s for sure.”

John Ross approaches Bobby in the study. “His you doin’ Uncle Bobby?”

“I should be asking you that question.”

“Guilty. I should have come home more.”

“Oh don’t worry about that. JR was proud of you. Told everyone you’re just like your grandpa, off wildcatting in the Dakota’s with your friends, building up a company from scratch.”

“We just never got along. He wanted me at the company. I wanted to do things my way.”

“You married Amy Anderson, you know how thrilled that made him, Punk and Mavis’s granddaughter?”

“No but he mentioned her mother was a Lee and a Wendell often enough.”

“John Ross Ewing the forth. No one ever made JR happier than you did.”

“Thank you for saying so, Uncle Bobby.”

“Don’t get me wrong he lived having Ellie here and would have loved it if you moved into Southfork.”

“Yeah he mentioned that often enough.”

“Speaking of Southfork. If you don’t want it, I’m willing to buy it off if you, but I’d really rather you come here and stay and let me teach you ranching.”

“Thank you Uncle Bobby. Not sure my father left me Southfork. But if he did, I can’t sell it to you, but I’d certainly give it to you.”

“I gave it back to momma because she asked. It belong to her. And it was her decision to leave it to JR. I’m just glad he listened to me when it came to drilling. He bought up every ranch around us, including the old McKay place and drilled over from there. Even spent extra to get at Southfork old in the best way. He did that for me. And I appreciated it. This land means a lot to me. And I’m not gonna be around for ever.”

“Than leave it to Lucas or Christopher.”

“Christopher’s never coming back from Europe. He’s with his mother and her family. And Lucas barely speaks to me. Though JR tried with him. That boy, he’s got his first doctorate in law from Harvard when most are finishing undergrad. JR gives him a Vice Presidents job at JRE Industries in Acquisitions. Then days before he dies, he makes him President. He’s a twenty-two year old kid.”

“He’s a good man, Uncle Bobby. And he knows feat he’s doing. And give him time with the two of you. He’ll come around.”

“Glad you two get on so well.”

“Well if you’re going into business, helps to have a brain like his to pick.”

“Heard you did some favor for Margret. Testifying before Congress about fracking.”

“She’s working hard in a lobbying firm in D.C. Helps her mom’s a former Secretary of Energy and sitting Senator.”

“This is true. I’m impressed with your company. You’re making a lot of money off oil but you’re investing heavily into alternatives. JR was impressed by Ewing Energies as well. He told anyone who’d listen you didn’t need a degree, you just had an instinct fir business.”

“Not how he sounded when I dropped out of college.”

“No. JR was difficult. But he was proud of you. His you and Amy stepped up to take care of Rachel.”

“She’s my daughter. Of course I’m gonna take care of her.”

“Well your daddy had children besides you and Ellie and he hasn’t given them must besides money. You’ve made her part of the family. You’re a good man John Ross. And your daddy was proud of you.”

A man approaches and asks if he can see John Ross for a minute. Bobby leaves them alone. He hands him a key. “Before I read the will, this is for that door. It’s where your father keeps his personal papers. Things you’ll need. It’s gonna take you maybe years to go through it all. But everything you’ll ever need from your father and your grandfather are in there.”

People make their way to the front door, leaving slowly until only the immediate family remains. The man with the key ushers them into the dinning room. Sitting in Miss Ellie’s place he says, “JR wanted me to gather you together to tell you how he’s disturbing his estate.” He takes out a stack of papers. “JR’s personal accounts, investments and life insurance aren’t part of this. His financial advisor will be in touch. As far as I know, he left John Ross and Ellie as equal beneficiaries to all of that. Also his personal things in the house, he leaves them to John Ross and his mother’s personal things which he kept here in the house, he leaves to Ellie.

Now the trusts. John Ross is the sole trustee of each of the following trusts JR has set up.

JR set up trusts of diversified investments for all of his other children and grandchildren, those who he asked not be here. I will be seeing them over the course of the week.

JR also set up trusts of diversified investments for his granddaughter Rachel and grandson Jay which will remain until they are thirty years of age.

Gary. JR leaves you as beneficiary of a trust which includes the West Fork Ranch. It will go to your children with Val upon your death.

Bobby. He leaves you beneficiary of a trust which includes the Wade Ranch. It will go to your son Lucas upon your death.

Sue Ellen. JR leaves you beneficiary of a trust which includes the Southfork Ranch. John Ross will be beneficiary upon your death and it will go to Jay upon John Ross’s death. There is a stipulation that Ellie can live on the ranch as long as she wants. You should know, this includes the oil rights and their income.

The hunting lodges at Caddo Lake, Louisiana and Huron Mountain, Michigan to John Ross.

The Regent Tower in New York City, including JR’s penthouse and Eleanor Island in the Bahamas to Ellie.

The bulk of his estate are his shares in the conglomerate JRE Industries, JR leaves these in trust to John Ross and Ellie.

Are their any questions?”

The room seems shocked, sitting in silence.

Five news commentators facing each other: “The world of oil and business said good bye today to the last of the great oil tycoons, JR Ewing. When you think of oil exploration you think of J. Paul Getty and H. L. Hunt and J. R. Ewing. J. R. Ewing lived a life of scandal, two wives, illegitimate children and shady business deals. In the end he mastered the game, creating the conglomerate JRE Industries which today owns hundreds of companies including the original founded by his father, Jock Ewing, field services company Ewing Oil, Wentworth Tool and Die and Branch Water Security. Ewing Industries is also the largest share holder in DSP Bank from JR’s shares in the former Cattleman’s Bank as well as in the Trident Corporation from his shares in the former West Star Corporation and there are thousands of other investments from Global Media to Scott Meat Processing.”

“JRE Industries announced that John Ross Ewing the third and Eleanor Elizabeth Ewing will each inherit forty-two percent of the company. The Culver Family trust owns the remaining sixteen percent.“

“No estate tax this year, J. R. Ewing couldn’t have planned his death better.”

“Some say he did plan it through aggressive lobbying over the last couple of years.”

“Mateo Culver and JR Ewing’s nephew, twenty-two year old Lucas Ewing, recently appointed President of JRE Industries, sit on the boards of many of the companies in which JR Ewing invested, including Trident and Trident EO.”

“Lucas Ewing graduated with a Juris Doctorate from Harvard University by twenty-one. During his undergrad at Yale he founded and sold several of his own start ups. He has since earned a Ph.D. in Economics from Chicago.”

“JRE Industries couldn’t be in better hands despite all the best advise of not hiring family.”

“There chief rival for control of Trident comes from the Wendell family. J. Dorian Wendell was recently made Chairman and CEO of Trident despite J.R. Ewing’s best efforts to oppose him. J. Dorian Wendell’s

Aunt is also on the board of Trident, Judith Wendell Lee, the widow of the late Jordan Lee and sister of the former Chairman and CEO of West Star, Jeremy Wendell.”

“She is also the mother-in-law of John John Ross Ewing.”

“One tight, if not dysfunctional family.”

The panel laughs.

JR’s lawyer walks out in the deck of a mega yacht and says, “We’re all set.”

JR turns around, “Good. One thing you can be sure of, Ole JR leaves on his terms and no one else’s.”

Dallas theme song with split screen:

Jensen Ackles as John Ross Ewing
note: staring in Supernatural at the same time and with only 10 episodes of Dallas this might be doable and broaden the exposure of the show

Jamie Dornan as Dorian Wendell
note: staring in Once Upon a Time and with only 10 episodes of Dallas this might be doable and broaden the exposure of the show

With those two in place the rest I’d look for certain types like:

as Ellie Ewing
note: young, fairy like, brunette

as Lucas Ewing
note: young, fit, nerdy

as Amy Anderson Ewing
note: blue blooded blonde

as Rachel Ewing
note: sexy bombshell, 1/2 black

as Judith Lee
note: older, wealthy, powerful

as Matty Culver
note: military, fit, Hispanic,

as Louis del Rey
note: sexy bombshell, Hispanic

Interesting start. Looking forward to when JR comes back. :)
Also JR and Cally's child should be 4 years younger than Lucas. If you make Ellie JR and Sue Ellen's child I'd buy the age though. But then it's alternative universe...

Thank you. I’m not sure if I’d bring back JR, except to be with Sue Ellen. I’m thinking lots of letters sent to John Ross and Ellie from JR guiding them in life and business from the “grave.” I see Sue Ellen nursing an ill JR on a secluded island, a lone and in love.

Ellie is JR and Sue Ellen’s child in this version - I fixed my error above.

note: I would prefer to use the name JRE Industries as it was a company JR created so I use it here, but if I the TNT version, this were an issue of who gets paid I’d use Ewing Industries. You’ll also see, I’d use minor roles for the original characters, except for John Ross and Lucas. While tied to the original families (something CC should have done and could have easily done), the rest are my characters.

November 2012 . . .

In the early morning when it's still dark outside John Ross sits in his study, what had been his grandfather's study, at the Southfork Ranch, going over reports, skimming papers for information when Matty and Lucas walk in from the living room. "Tell me you have some news," he says to them.

Lucas says, "Wendell meet with Vicktor Sechin in Zurick."

"Cliff Barnes was at the meeting," Matty adds.

"Are you sure?" Lucas asks. "I have a list of people that were there and he wasn't on it."

"Branch Water was watching the serivce elevator."

John Ross says, "Do we know what was discussed?"

Matty says, "I should have a transcription and the original recording sometime later today, but the idea is a merger, to further water down JRE Industries' shares in Trident, thus giving Wendell more control."

"And the Russian government and Cliff Barnes a stake."

Ellie walks into the room next. "What the hell is Dorian Wendell meeting with the Russian's for?"

"You get in late last night."

"I don't know what time it was here, but you were all asleep."

"How were the Nationals?"

"I don't know. I left as soon as I heard about this meeting. And believe me, I do not like intrupting my schedule."

"Well if you'd called me, I would have told you I was on top of things. Exactly why did you go to Switerland without letting me know?"

"I don't tell you everything I do. Besides, I had a friend at the meeting."

"Who?" Lucas asks.

"Well a friend’s father. We went to Le Rosey together."

"And he was in the meeting?" Louis asks.

"Yes. He's in banking in Switerland."

John Ross says, "You're not going to give us his name are you?"

"No of course not."

"And what did you find out?"

"You first."

In the warm morning sun, a very pregnant Amy and Jay join Sue Ellen for breakfast by the pool. Sue Ellen asks how she's feeling and Amy discribes being tired of waddling. "Did you decide on a name yet?"

"John Ross wants to name him after his grandpa Clayton, Steven Clayton Ewing."

"Oh that would be nice. Dusty never had any sons of his own. I know Clayton would really like that.” Sue Ellen then talks with Jay about going to the Zoo.

“Oh by the way, I want to get the foundation involved in the educational part of the zoo. I’ve got some ideas to involve the kids around mid Texas.”

“Up to you. Like I said I’m just overseeing the investing now. How the Ewing Farlow Family Foundation spends its money is up to you and your advisors. Speaking of such, the DOA. Are we meeting here this week?”

“Yes.”

“I want to bring up adding to Miss Ellie’s scholarship.”

“Great idea.”

John Ross, Lucas, Matty and Ellie come out of the back of Southfork and join them.

John Ross asks about Rachel.

Amy says, “She’s sleeping in.”

“I thought this gap year was suppose to be about community service. All she does is party late and sleep in.”

Sue Ellen says, “Do you want me to talk to her?”

“I suppose that would be a good idea.”

Bobby walks up from the barns. “Well hello sleepy heads. Anyone coming out to get to work?”

“I know you’re not talking to me,” John Ross says. “I was already working in the study when I heard you walk out the back.”

“Is that so?” Bobby laughs and explains some work they’ve got to get done at Southfork for the day, before heading over to the Wade Ranch. Matty says he can join them.

Lucas says he’s got to get into the office and mentions Matty’s nephew, Louis, starting as an intern today.

Lucas arrives at his office greeting everyone along the way, including Louis. “In early. I have some reports I want to go over with you, later today you can take them to the ranch for John Ross to look over. Kayly, get Justin Horner over at DSP Bank on the phone.”

Ellie walks into one of the barns and startles a ranch hand caring for a calf. “Sorry. You’re new around here. I’m Ellie Ewing.” She looks up and down him, cowboy boots, tight jeans, his bare, sweaty, ripped torso, stubble and a Stetson.

“Hello Miss Ewing. I’m Antonio. Can I help you.”

“Yes I know who you are. Something my daddy taught me. Make sure you know everything there is to know about the people around you. That way there’s no surprises.”

“I don’t understand.”

“You’ve drifted from ranch to ranch because you’ve got a temper.”

“That’s behind me.”

“You been clean for about two years now. Good for you.”

“Thank you. I assure you Miss Ewing, you have nothing to worry about with me.”

“That’s good to know. We don’t want any incidents at Southfork. You’re an excellent rancher, so I hear. Imagine my surprise at the other profession you had before ranching.” She holds up her phone to him and his jaw drops as the sounds of a porno fills the barn.

“Please Miss Ewing, that was another life time.”

She rubs his chest. “I want to contract for your services.”

He backs up. “No I’ve got a family now.” He shows her his ring. “I’m sure there are a lot of guys who would love to be your boyfriend, Miss.”

“I don’t want a boy friend. You see, I’m too busy to settle down.” She steps up to him. Her hands all over his body. “No I need someone who’s highly skilled.”

Louis walks up from the drive way at Southfork on his way to study door off the back when he sees Rachel getting out of the pool and can’t help but stare at her gorgeous, wet body in a two piece.

Lucas walks out from a hotel bathroom in a towel. An older man sits up in bed, naked, covered in the bedding. “Your brother hasn’t dropped any hints about being up to anything? What about your aunt Judith.”

“No. You know they both hate the Ewing’s so Dorian never has anything good to say, but nothing about a merger in the works for Trident. But he doesn’t share his business with me. I certainly don’t see him discussing a Russian deal with me.”

“Well you’ll tell me if he does, won’t you Gordon?”

“Of course. As long as you keep your source a secret.”

“I’m good at keeping secrets.”

Sue Ellen walks through a beautiful beach house on a secluded tropical island out to the back and a patio butting up against a sandy beach. There she watches JR stand out of his wheel chair, unbeknownst to him. “I told you, no one can keep JR Ewing down.”

“So you did. Well I guess it’s happened. Ole JR was finally wrong. I thought I couldn’t do it, but seems like I did.” He stands holding tight to his walker. “Still down to the water.”

She takes his arm. “So when you’re strong again, how you gonna explain this to your family.”

Walking out to the water, slow and stiff, JR holds tight to her arm. “I’m not. I’m not going back Sue Ellen. Last thing they need is me in their way.”

“And your grandchildren, don’t you want to see them?”

“Of course I do. But look at them. Look how happy Bobby and Gary are.”

“JR. This isn’t right. I’ve stood by you because you did t think you were going to make it, but.”

“No buts Sue Ellen. Let me have this.”

John Ross sits in his study, dirty from working the ranch all day. He opens a letter. It reads (in JR’s voice), “By now you’ve gone through my closet, the black box with details going back to my daddy. You should have pieced together what happened to my daddy in Venezuela, the fight for freedom, the loss, the Russian interference. There’s a man not detailed in all that information, Mikhail Sechin. Below is the website where you’ll find that information. Mikhail died a few months before I did, but his son Vicktor is of concern, carrying on his father’s legacy and then some, no longer hiding under a veil of communism, just out to get the oil under Venezuela. Vicktor Sechin will be in touch with the Barnes, Wendell and the DeLaVega families. He’s coming for you. But I know you’re ready to handle him. If I didn’t believe that I’d have made a deal with the devil to stay and fight by your side. Just remember ‘Don't forgive and never forget; Do unto others before they do unto you; and third and most importantly, keep your eye on your friends, because your enemies will take care of themselves.’ Love always, Dad.”

Overlooking the Houston skyline, Judith Lee walks off the elevator and through the corridors of the c-suite offices of Trident. Dorian greets her with a cordial hug. “Aunt Judith. How are you?”

“Depends on what you have for me. How'd the meeting go?"

"If you can get the board to agree to the merger, we're good to go."

"And Barnes?"

"He's agreed. It's JR Ewing's company after all."

"I'm well aware. JR took control of West Star and then arranged some convoulted merger with Trident. He created the Trident Corporation, which was really nothing but paper work and it bought out all of West Star and the Texas Oil Company. Then he took it public and the whole world forgot how corrupt JR Ewing was. Suddenly he's a master of Wall Street. Well today we put an end to legacy."

"You're sure about getting the shareholder votes for the merger?"

"JRE Industries only owns two percent of Trident. Plus some shares Bobby owns. I’m not seeing an overwhelming obstacle, are you?”

“With the Russian government, Vicktor Sechin controls Rosprom and Rosprom and the De La Vega’s with the Venezuelan government now own all of CalCo. Cliff Barnes helped with securing Swiss financing. It’s up to us to bring the board and shareholders of Trident.”

“Well if you see a way for the Ewing’s to stop us, let me know. Without JR here to hold people on the board or other major shareholders in line, I see no reason this shouldn’t happen. And once it does the Ewing’s will be even smaller shareholders, less than one percent. Through our friends the Wendell’s will control the West Star Corporation, bigger and more powerful than ever.”

“And TridentEO?”

“That’s the real target. When JR spun off the upstream assets he created the nation’s largest pure play production company and put the Ewing name on it. I want it back. And as the Ewing’s only own two percent of it as well, this shouldn’t be a problem.”

“They’re agreeable. They want at the marketing assets in America in particular, but they agreed to go after TridentEO next.”

“I know he’s young, but Lucas is the one you need to look out for. John Ross is just some oil rigger turned rancher and his sister, Ellie’s a pampered brat. But JR put Lucas in place to run he companies for a reason. He sold most of Trident and TridentEO to flood his businesses with cash. A lot of cash. We have to be prepared for a fight.”

“The kid may be a genius but we can take him.”

“Yeah will your father thought the same thing about the Ewing brothers.”

Louis walks into the lobby of his apartment building laughing with friends after work. They go their way he steps up to the elevator. The doors open and John Ross is there. “Going up?”

The young man gets on the elevator with John Ross, a bit nervous. The doors close.

John Ross says, “So I hear you’re interested in seeing my daughter.” Louis attempts to explain. John Ross stops the elevator and interrupts him. “Cut the crap. You just need to know one thing. This is my town. And nothing happens without me knowing about it.”

“Yes sir.”

“So before you go trying any shady shit maybe ask your Uncle Matty for some advice about seeing a Ewing.” John Ross open the door, pats Louis’s shoulder and steps off the elevator.

Sue Ellen sits a tray of lemonade in front of JR. “I’m worried about this fight.”

“If they choose to fight they’ll win. If not the Wendell’s will make them a lot of money. I’m not sure what you’re worried about.”

“I don’t want our children to fight. I just want them to be happy.”

“Well which is it? Sometimes you can’t have both, if it makes them happy to fight. Right?”

“This isn’t like you and Bobby fighting or you and Cliff or Wendell or you and anybody else. You’re talking about some Russian syndicate linked to underworld thugs and the Russian government. How can you know they’ll win.”

“I maybe ill, but I’m not dead and I’ve never been stupid. Mark my word Sue Ellen. There are things your children know that Lucas never will. They know how to fight.”

The Ewing’s gather for dinner in the living room, John Ross handles the bar. Sue Ellen, sitting on the sofa plays with Jay. Bobby walks in laughing with Lucas, Lucas telling him about one of the Stone girls pouring hot soup on her date this afternoon at the Cattleman’s Club.

“That’s awful,” Sue Ellen interjects.

Lucas says, “Rumor has it he spent the weekend with porn stars.”

“Oh my God. What is this world coming to?”

Amy says, “Speaking of seedy characters. Children’s Hospital got a call from the Sechin Foundation offering a great deal of money toward doubling the size of the JR Ewing Play Center. So I Googled him. I assume you know about him.”

Lucas says, “Yes I’ve heard of him.”

“The hospital wants me to meet with them and see what we can come up with.”

Ellie comes storming in. “We really have to find out who’s sending these letters for dad. Apparently as I’m not married two years after his death, he’s setting me up with Roger Leland.”

“Oh he’s charming,” Amy says.

“He’s a doofus.”

“Oh Ellie,” Amy exclaims.

Amy takes her drink from John Ross. “Speaking of such, did you know your daughter’s seeing Louis del Rey?”

“Whose that?” Sue Ellen asks.

“Matt Culver’s nephew,” Lucas answers. “He’s interning in my office. His mother, Samantha, took her Uncle Dave’s seat in the Senate for short awhile.”

Ellie adds, “She was married to Martin del Rey, the Argentinean polo player.”

A maid whispers in Amy ear and Amy announces, “Dinner is ready.”

The family gathers around the dinner table. John Ross in his grandfather’s seat, Amy in Miss Ellie’s with Jay in a high chair next to her. The rest gather in their usual seats and begin to pass dishes, chatting about the up coming social season, starting with the Oil Barons’ Ball. Sue Ellen mentions an award in Jeremy Wendell’s name. The family is shocked considering his disgrace and going to prison.

The rest gather in their usual seats and begin to pass dishes, chatting about the up coming social season, starting with Oil Barons’ Ball. Sue Ellen mentions an award in Jeremy Wendell’s name. The family is shocked considering his disgrace and going to prison.

——————————————————-

The Ewing’s arrive at the Oil Barons’ Ball, stepping out of a limousine and walking to the front door of the Four Seasons. A news reports stops Sue Ellen. “Mrs. Ewing. Maybe we have a moment?”

“Hello Kate. Sure.”

“Don’t you look lovely. But you always dress so elegantly.”

“Thank you.”

“To us you will always be Sue Ellen Ewing, but to the British people, you’re Lady Maitland. Last spring your stepson got married. You were absolutely stunning for that as well. You attended with Norwegian shipping magnet, Johann Fredriksen. Can we expect him here tonight?”

Sue Ellen laughs, “Of no. Johann and Don were good friends. No I’m here with my brother-in-law, Bobby Ewing.”

“We’ve heard about an announcement regarding a scholarship to honor JR Ewing. Care to comment.”

“Yes, we’re setting up funding at UofT for several undergraduates. It’s the belief of the Ewing Farlow Family Foundation that any student accepted should not walk away with student debt.”

The Ewing’s gather around there table in the center of the room. Ellie introduces her date, Gustav. Lucas arrives with Lucy. John Ross says to Lucy, “Came for the fireworks?”

“Well you have to admit it’s always an interesting time. Why’s Rachel over at the Culver’s table?”

“She’s with Louis del Rey.”

“Oh. Are you ok with that?”

“Kinda feel bad for the boy. Matty’ll kept an eye on him. He’s a nice kid.”

“And Rachel?”

“Gets board quickly.”

“Oh I see.”

Bobby and Sue Ellen approach the Wendell table. Sue Ellen says to Judith, “Don’t you look lovely.”

“Why thank you Sue Ellen. So do you. This is Vicktor Sechin. Vicktor this is Sue Ellen Ewing and Bobby Ewing.”

“I’ve heard a great deal about you both. Nice to meet you.”

“And you remember my nephews Dorian and his wife Caroline and Gordon and his wife Olivia.”

Matty sits next to John Ross. “Interesting Vicktor is here. A bit brash.”

“When you think you have that much over on the competition, you tend to be.”

“ ‘Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak’ .”

John Ross grins, “You remember when I gave you the Art of War? My father said only pass it on to people who you know you can count on.”

“I remember. We were both on our se I f boarding school like some pathetic Holden Caulfield wannabes.”

John Ross chuckles. “Maybe you were but I was authentic.”

“ ‘Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant.’ It appears you’ve achieve such.”

“ ‘ Put division between them’ .”

“The problem is he may intend the same thing.” Matty pats his shoulder and walks away.

John Ross looks at his mother and uncle happily talking with the Wendell’s and mumbles, “Like you use to say dad, keep an eye on your friends.”

Up at one of the bars Lucas pats Gordon on the back. “Looks like the family’s all here.”

“Oh Lucas. You startled me. Sorry, what were you saying?”

“Your family’s here.”

“Oh. Yes. Olivia you mean. She likes these kind of things so she flies in for them.”

“Well good for her.”

“Don’t be mean Lucas.”

Lucas goes to speak and Amy approaches. “Gordon I wanted to talk to you about the action. Yes the foundation will support the paintings you want. We’ll send you the details.”

“Excellent. These are pieces we need. Thank you Amy.”

“Of course. I also want the Pissarro. I spoke to my family. The Anderson’s are willing to support it.”

“Are you serious?”

“What ever they don’t come up with, John Ross and I will cover. I want a copy for the house but the original is safer with you.”

“Excellent. Yes. That’s exciting news.”

Looking at Lucas Amy says, “Oh sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.”

Lucas says, “You’re not.”

She orders a Bourbon and branch and a martini, very dry. “Well I just wanted to share the news.”

“And it’s incredible news. Thank you.” Gordon beams.

“Now I’m hoping you can help with an artist in residency program we want to establish.”

“Sure. I’d love to discuss it.” She takes the drinks. My scheduler will set up an appointment next week.”

“Look forward to it.”

She walks away and Lucas says, “Text me tonight,” and takes his drinks and leaves.

Ellie approaches Dorian on his way out. “Last time I saw you was Switzerland. Small world.”

“Ellie. How are you?”

“Oh I’m excellent. You?”

“I always enjoy these things. People watching you know.”

“That’s the same reason I enjoy them. Your aunt’s choice of date is interesting. I hear he’s sniffing around for an investment which gets the Russians an in to the American oil industry. You’re all not helping him are you?”

“You hear a lot for a girl who don’t do much but travel.”

“Lots of friends. The DeLeVegas control CalCo. I hear they’re looking for a partner. Though Congress might be an obstacle.”

“The Ewing’s have friends in Congress. Maybe you could help.”

“You know better than that. A Ewing wouldn’t help a Wendell jump off a cliff.”

“Oh sure you would. A cliff, that’d be your kinda help.”

“No too messy.” She pats his shoulder. “Into a prison cell maybe.” Ellie walks away smiling.

Vicktor stands at a urinal when Lucas comes into the bathroom to occupy the one next to him. “Are you trying to irritate my cousin?”

“No just curious.”

“Don’t be. Our deal has taken three years to plan around John Ross and Dorian. I don’t need any suspicion now in the final stages.”

“Why are you in here then?”

“Because you’re getting cocky and need warning off.”

“I don’t need warning from a pup like you. By the way, did you acquire Faraday?”

“Yes.”

“The alternative energy company is important to our future.”

“What’s important is you over pay me in shares of the new merged company to buy Faraday.”

Vicktor zips up. “The price of loyalty to your family.” He walks out.

Ellie approaches Rachel. “Sitting with the Culver’s. Louis is a good start but you need your eye on Matty.”

“Ew, he’s old enough to be my dad.”

“He also controls his family’s sixteen percent of JRE.”

“They own sixteen percent of grandpa’s company?”

“Yes they do. And maybe with your help we could manage to get that sixteen percent away from them?”

“How? I can’t afford anything like that?”

“We could figure it out. If it’s something you’re willing to work on?”

A smile crosses Rachel’s face.

Amy dances with John Ross. She asks him, “Is there anything I need to know?”

“Like what?”

“That Russian guy at the Wendell Table?”

“He’s working with Wendell to push us out of Trident.”

“Wendell is recruiting American’s enemies just to take you on?”

“Not exactly. Vicktor Schin recruited him. He’s aunt’s smart enough to manage the situation but Wendell doesn’t have the brains god gave a mosquito. Though he’s arrogant enough to actually think he’s a stable genius.”

“Hie bad is Dorian going to fall?”

“Well he keeps digging, he’ll end up in prison just like his dad.”

“Can you put a stop to it before things get that carried away?”

“Why? You’re not still in love with him are you?”

“I was never in love with Dorian. We were friends.”

“He was in love with you.”

“Well I can’t help that. No it’s just Dorian’s life hadn’t been easy. Both parents with multiple marriages. His dad in prison when he was a kid.”

“That’s certainly not my family’s fault. His dad did that to himself.”

“I’m not saying it is. I’m just saying I fell bad for Dorian.” Amy flinches in pain.

“You ok?”

“Yea, just he’s really kicking. Maybe I should sit down.”

John Ross helps her to their table.

Sue Ellen, dancing with Senator Fenton Washburn, watches them with concern in her face. She excuses herself and goes to check on Amy.

The Ewing’s rush out of the hotel.

I liked the JR & Sue Ellen scene. :)
It's always nice with the oil baron's ball.

Also this is weird but I find myself unable to rate your posts in this new subforum. Must be something that's not configurated yet.

Thank you. I thought you’d like JR and Sue Ellen - they’re finally able to get rid of the rest of the world and just be in love.

In a quite, dark, hospital hallway, JR and Sue Ellen look In on their grandchildren. JR says, “Why would your son name him Steven Clayton? Setting the kid up to come in second his whole life.”

“JR. Clayton was very good to John Ross. The only grandfather he ever knew.”

Weakened JR says, “I gotta sit down.”

“You ok?”

“Yeah. Yeah. I’m fine. Just need to sit.”

“JR. You really shouldn’t be here.”

“I know, but I couldn’t resist seeing my latest grandson.”

“I wish he could get to know you.”

“Really Sue Ellen, I’m sure he’s better off not knowing me.”

“No JR, the man you are now. At peace with yourself, that man is worth knowing.”

“That man is dead. I had to actually die to find peace. It tell me, tell me I actually left my family better off.”

“You certainly did. Forbes did a whole piece on you. Did you see it?”

“I’m dead Sue Ellen, not out of touch. I still know everything that’s going on. I’m proud of our children, you know. They’re on top of things with Wendell and the Russians. And they’re not letting it consume them. You see how much John Ross enjoys the ranch. He and Bobby are close. I like that. I just wish Bobby had someone to grow old with.”

“I do too. I’ve tried to set him up with a few women but he’s set just been through too much.”

“You leave that to ole JR. I’m not done with him yet.”

“You know Lucy lives on West Fork? Gary’s out there everyday, but he’s left the house to Lucy. I guess they’re growing pretty close. That’s thanks to you.”

“I’m glad. Been working on finding her a good husband. Not many out there you know.”

“Don’t I know it.”

“I gotta let you in on something. About Lucas. I’m concerned. He’s seeing some one.”

“Is he? Well that’s good. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard of Lucas seeing anyone. Anyone we know?”

“Gordon Wendell.”

“What? Lucas is gay and seeing a married man?”

“Yes. I’m not worried about all that. He’s seeing a Wendell. That’s the problem.”

“Well yah but Gordon’s not involved in business. He’s really a very nice man. I think he and Olivia have been separated for years. She’s almost always in New York.”

“I’ll say it again, the problem’s he’s a Wendell.”

Sue Ellen chuckles, “You never really change do you JR.”

“Oh come on Sue Ellen, a Wendell, really.”

Note: I have always wanted to combine the Dallas and Falcon Crest universes so here is my chance. I would have hopped that as the same company owns both I could at least temporarily borrow one from Falcon Crest.

John Ross walks out from the barn to greet Richard Channing as he gets out of the back of a long black limousine. “Mr. Channing. Welcome to Southfork. I’m John Ross Ewing.”

The two shake hands.

“Nice to finally meet you. And a nice place here, that you share with your mother. I shared my home with my mother as well.”

“Falcon Crest. Yes I’m well aware. Now they call you the Seer of ‘Cisco. Wine is sort of a side hobby.”

“Like cattle is for you.”

“Something like that. My mother passed away a few years back and left me Falcon Crest. I live with my sister too. My nephew owns the Gioberti Winery next door. I guess we share a lot in common.”

“It would appear so. You have two sons. I have two sons. You’ve been married three times, sisters, a cousin. You must like that one particular family. Your other sister’s a nun. You’ve got a nephew who’s a priest. A niece named after you mother who’s a brilliant artist. Am I missing any one?”

“No pretty accurate.”

“Good. I believe in being through when it comes to knowing people I associate with, or those looking to associate with me. You control a conglomerate, Rosemont Harriman. I assume this meeting has something to do with that.”

“Actually no. I have some friends who would like to get to know you better.”

“They have anything to do with you testifying before Congress regarding, was it, The 13?”

“Matty Culver and Branch Water.”

“As a source of information, is that what you’re asking.”

“I’m not asking. I’m aware that Branch Water is more than security.”

“The collection of information is primary when it comes to security, Mr. Channing.”

“Point taken.”

“So let’s cut to the chance. You’ve come out of your way to discuss something with me.”

“Actually I began this conversation with your father a little over two years ago.”

“I know. He left me a detailed explanation as he knew it. A lot of my sing pieces.”

“I’m afraid that’s necessary until we know you’re one of us.”

“I’m open to discussion.”

Sitting around the Trident Corporation’s board room table, Dorian says, “Well that’s that.”

The only other people left in the room are his Aunt Judith, Vicktor Sechin and Antonio De Le Vega.

Judith says, “Matthew Culver will be reporting back to John Ross as we speak. But, Dorian and I are prepared to hear from him. He’ll threaten to block the merger with the vote of the shareholders.”

“Threaten all he wants,” Dorian says. “The board approved the merger after Antonio took questions. There’s nothing left to discuss. And he doesn’t come close to rallying a majority of the shares. JRE only owns two percent after the last issue.”

Vicktor says, “Don’t count Ewing’s our yet. I expect we’ll get hauled in front of your Congress next.”

Antonio says, “There’s no threat to U.S. technology. What they’d be most concerned about Trident doesn’t own. It’s divided among Wentworth Tool and Die, Ewing Oil and Galveston Chemical. Trident’s just paying to use it.”

Judith asks, “And all three of those company’s are owned by JRE, so if they refuse to sell us access, what happens to Trident’s oil reserves?”

Dorian answers, “They’re severely slashed. Some plays we’ll only be able to get at a small fraction of what we’re reporting now.”

“So are we sure we’re in a position right now to do this?” Judith asks.

“Yes. Worst case scenario the market cap plummets and we’re able to pick up more shares. We’ll work through it.”

“What was the item about Rosemont Harriman investing in Trident?” Judith asks.

“They picked up two percent. While not significant, certainly nothing they had to report, Rosemont Harriman investing in anything automatically drives the price up. So my guess is they’re done buying and wanted a bump in share holder value. Probably intend to sit on it awhile.”

“Ok but why invest, just to sit in it?”

“Good question. I’m meeting with Richard Channing tomorrow. I’ll keep everyone posted.”

Vicktor says, “Well regardless of the objections of the Ewing’s and their class B shares, we’ve got the votes to sell the company to CalCo and put in place a chain of events that will push them aside for good.”

Judith states, “And then we go after other assets, starting with Wentworth Tool and Die, picking them clean, bit by bit.”

Antonio asks, “Class B shares?”

Dorian Anderson, “Thats why with only two percent of the shares they still got so many votes on the board. It guarantees them forty percent of the board appointments. I’ve been battling that since JR died.”

A crowd of well dressed people walk out of a theater all talking about the play. Lucas laughs with Gordon, almost appearing as a couple as they run right into Ellie. “Well look who’s here. What a surprise,” she says, “Lucas I thought you and John Ross would be brainstorming a stop to the Wendell’s taking control of Trident from us.”

“He says he’s got it covered. I tried to argue with his this afternoon but that’s not really possible, is it?”

“Yes he doesn’t like to argue. But still, here you are and with Gordon Wendell.”

“I don’t know anything about my brother’s business nor do I want to know.”

“Well bully for you.”

“I’m puzzled. If you’re so worried about what to do next, why aren’t you with John Ross trying to figure out our next move?”

“I don’t work for JRE. You’re the President and CEO. John Ross is the Chairman. You two figure it out.”

“It’s not that big a deal in the company’s portfolio. Even if we don’t control Trident, it’s not something to panic over.”

“I’m don’t panic.”

The lights dim to single the end of intermission. Richard Channing approaches. “Ready Ellie?”

Lucas says, “You’re here with Richard Channing?”

“Hello,” Richard says.

“Hi I’m Lucas Ewing and this is my friend, Gordon Wendell. Nice to meet you.”

The three shake hands.

Lucas adds, “I heard you’re investing in Trident.”

“Rosemont Harriman is. I’m here to meet with Dorian Wendell, I believe that’s your brother. And I ran into Ellie. But we’d better head in. Nice to meet you.” They make their way back in the theater. Richard says, “Interesting introduction. Pretty big age difference.”

“I don’t care abut that. What the hell does he think he’s doing seeing a Wendell? The last thing this family needs is a Wendell living among us.”

“He lives on Southfork?”

“Next door at the Wade Ranch, his mother is a Wade. I’m trying to get my Uncle Bobby to move in there.”

“You remind me of my mother.”

“I’ll take that as a complement.”

“Sure, why not.”

“So you were telling me about Michael. I haven’t seen him in far too long.”

Early in the morning Rachel rides into the stable to find Matty walking in. She jumps down in her very tight riding clothes.

“Morning Rachel.”

“Morning Mr. Culver.”

“Mr. That’s new.”

“I thought I’d try being respectful to my elders. Where’s my daddy?”

“He’s still in the house making phone calls.”

“Well isn’t that fortuitous.”

“And why’s that?”

“Cause I don’t get you to myself very often.” Rachel stands close to him and rubs his chest.

Matty backs off. “Not sure what’s got into you but I’m not interested.”

Rachel laughs, “Nothing like that. I’m just curious. Boys are always so nervous around me. You’re not are you?”

“No. But I’m also not interested in you getting any closer.”

“Oh you’re . . .”

“Not interested.”

“Yes you are.” She steps up and rubs his crotch.

On the terrace off the back of JR’s sea side retreat, he holds Sue Ellen in the early morning hours, dancing to an old favorite song, talking about being out of practice.

“You’ve got all the time in the world to practice now.”

“Oh darlin’ if only that were true.”

“So tell me about this Richard Channing.”

“He’s a businessman. Very good at picking under valued businesses and pushing the share price up. And that’s an understatement.”

“And?”

“And he’s got this group of friends. They don’t have a name. Most of them, like Channing, have connections back to Robber Barrons well over a hundred years ago. The Channing family was in chemicals before newspapers and wine. They’re not all that enamored by the free market and democracy.”

“You’re kidding?”

“No, I’m not. They’re especially worried about the fortunes held by I guess what you’d call new money, like the Barnes, and they certainly aren’t happy with the machinations of middle managers like the Wendell’s.”

“Go on.”

“Richards father knew Herbert Wentworth. Their little group wasn’t happy with Rebecca. She had this idea of driving down the price of crude with a drilling process Wentworth developed. She’d make a fortune where he new better. Roll it out bit by bit. They’re certainly in favor of it now. The U.S. controls the price of crude. If the Saudi’s don’t like it and pump less this technology kicks in and we pump more. But back then they weren’t ready. And Rebecca got in their way.”

“Are you serious? They killed Rebecca Wentworth?”

“People like Douglas Channing have always been around. When I went after Wentworth Tool and Die, I ended up with this fracking technology. Then Galveston Chemical. Pretty soon Richard Channing was knocking on my door congratulating me and wanting to discuss the matter.”

“How dangerous are these people?”

“Nothing your children can’t handle.”

Sue Ellen gives the old scoundrel an incredulous look.

John Ross and Amy shoot skeet on the Southfork Ranch. After she bests him again she laughs and takes off her ear protectors and goggles. “That makes your third loss in a row. You tired of being humiliated?”

“No I could go on all day. Seeing you so happy to beat me is intoxicating.”

“Oh please. Like you let me win.”

“No of course not,” John Ross says with a devilish grin.

“Cut that out.”

“Cut what out? Loosing to the most beautiful woman in the world? I’m not sure I can do that.”

“John Ross, you know I’m a better shot than you.”

“Of course I do, darlin’,” John Ross says with no hint of sincerity. He takes her in his arms. “Now your reward. You want another boy or a girl this time.”

“My reward is not your having sex. There’s a collection of Pissarro’s I want. We’ll donate the originals to Gordon Wendell.”

“You have got to be kidding me. You want me to guy millions in art work to give to another man, and that man is a Wendell.”

“Yep. It might reach ten figures.”

“Holy crap. For paint on a canvas?”

“It could be the most impressive collection of his work in the U.S.”

“You cannot be serious Amy.”

“The bet was for anything I wanted.”

“I though you meant like sex.”

Amy laughs. “No you didn’t.”

“I can’t afford you.”

“Yes you can.”

He kisses her, “Ok but I want another son.”

“And there’s a artist residence program I want you to fund. The foundation has covered the preschool through high school part. I want you to fund the adult part.”

“Amy. You’re going to break me.”

With a spoiled grin she replies, “But what a way to go.”

An Arab prince walks up and into a private jet to find himself facing Ellie. “I hear your negotiations with Ewing Oil for field services in your country stalled.”

“Who are you and how did you get on my plane?”

“That’s a very good question. But you should have lead with, where are the people you pay to protect you? Oh and I’m Ellie Ewing.”

“I see. So you’re here representing your family. That’s not going to help their pathetic offer.”

“You under estimate me.” She tosses her phone at him. “Correct me if I’m wrong. You’ll be executed for that behavior when you return.”

“Where did you get this?”

“Those young women and men were provided by me. See I don’t like your attitude. You were made a fair offer. You’re going to take it. And not just for the fields on the table. For all your oil. All.”

“You will find I’m far more difficult to deal with than that.”

“No I won’t. This deal is done and we’re friends from now on. Good friends. And you try to dig into my life, I get so much as an inkling I’ve come something to fear from you and I’ll release this tape to every household in your country driving your nation into civil war, taking with it you, your father and your whole family. I hope we’re clear. Because I’d much rather have your oil than your blood.”

The Ewing’s gather out by the pool. Bobby’s barbecuing.

A long, black Mercedes-limousine with the license plate ‘Ewing 3’ pulls behind the garage.

Other cars in the drive way include plates ‘Ewing 1,’ ‘Ewing 2,’ Bobby’s pickup truck with ‘Ewing 4,’ ‘Ewing 6,’ ‘Ewing 8.’

A red Mercedes convertible, top down, with a ‘Ewing 7’ plate pulls up next.

Ellie’s driver lets her out the back of the limousine while Rachel pops out of the other car. Ellie says, “So how goes what we talked about?”

“Well he’s certainly noticed me.”

“That’s a start. A very good start.”

Sue Ellen plays checkers with Jay. Amy feeds Steven. John Ross helps Bobby. Lucas texts on his phone.

Lucas says to Ellie, “That deal with Ewing Oil you were acquiring about. The one that fell through.”

“With Ajman?”

“Yes. Well, I was just told it’s back on. They’ve accepted our offer and expanded it. They want us to take on all plays in the country.”

“That is good news.”

“Ewing Oil also meet with Richard Channing to to develop the Lotus Point property in Southern California. Did you have something to do with that as well?”

“I might have mentioned how very good Ewing Oil was at what it did. Including getting the oil off of Southfork from the old McKay property. Speaking of which. Why were you out with Gordon Wendell the other night?”

“What?” John Ross says.

“I ran into Gordon at the DOT.”

“You were sitting next to each other. It was a date.”

John Ross says, “You were on a date with Gordon Wendell?”

“No it wasn’t a date. JRE has better seats than he does. I just invited him to sit next to me.”

“No it was a date.”

Lucas shoves Ellie in the pool and walks away.

Ellie treads water. “Don’t go away made Lucas.”

Sue Ellen and Bobby chuckle.

John Ross says, “Not like that’s never happened before.”

Dorian welcomes Richard to his office, shaking hands, offering him a seat. “Just giving you a heads up. Rosemont Harriman acquired five percent of Trident, as of this morning.”

“Well I’m please you have so much faith in my company.”

“There have been deep roomers about a merger with CalCo.”

“Well you know how it is. There’s always discussion.”

“I’d like a seat on the board. The Ewing’s Class B shares give them one third of the board seats, if I’m not mistaken.”

“Yes. They have one vote per share, but as long as JRE maintains one million shares, they also appoint one third of the board of directors.”

“That’s an impressive hold on the company.”

“True. But far from control.”

“None the less, pretty close. Wouldn’t take much to get their way. I’m not a fan of dual class arrangements.”

“Something we share in common, Mr. Channing.”

I forgot to include a pic of Ellie’s ranch hand, Austin (mistyped above as Antonio, that’s De Le Vega not the ranch hand):

Richard Channing:

Long Dia (Chinese naming convention):

Bobby stops an angry Lucas from marching up stairs. “You’re not really seeing Gordon Wendell are you?”

“That’s none of your business.”

“He’s a married man.”

“Separated for over ten years. But I don’t owe you an explanation. You’re not my father. Don’t let the name change fool you. I did that for J.R. and the job. Ray Krebs is my father. Margret and Charlie are my sisters. You should go and see Chris if you want a family so bad. Maybe change your name to Barnes like he did.” They stare each other down in silence until Chris returns to marching up stairs.

Sue Ellen says, “I’m sorry Bobby.”

“No. He’s right. I’m the one who gave him away. Maybe it’s time I move on. As soon as he’s done with the remodel he’s moving into the Wade place. John Ross and Matty don’t need me at either place. They running them together. Chris doesn’t want us. He’s with his mom and Cliff and Pamela. Hell they even got Katherine living there.”

“Bobby.”

“Rays in Virginia with Jenna and Donna lives nearby. So’s Margret and Charlie. Gary’s with Val and his kids in California. You’re here with your kids. What am I doing?”

“Bobby. Ray said Lucas knew from day one you were his father and he made sure he knew you loved him, and gave him up for a better life with a family, a mom and a dad and his two sisters. Lucas doesn’t have any business hating you. This wasn’t sprung on him. And you’ve seen him his whole life. You didn’t abandon him. He was here all the time on school breaks and talked to you when he was being bullied at school. He’s got no cause to take this out on you. He’s seeing a married man. One from a family who hates this one.”

“Thank you Sue Ellen. But I think I’m going to head out. See what I can find.”

“Bobby.”

“I spent to many years fighting JR. Hell even when he was sick he wouldn’t listen to me and lord know I fought him when I should have just been here for him. I’m not sure what’s left.”

“You belong here Bobby.”

“I’m not sure I do anymore.” Bobby walks out the front door.

The family minus Lucas and Bobby finish dinner out by the pool. John Ross walks over to the barbecue to clean it. Sue Ellen follows him. “You’re Uncle Bobby’s talking about leaving.”

“Leaving?”

“Southfork.”

“What? He can’t leave Southfork.”

“He had a pretty big fight with Lucas in side.”

“I’ll talk to Ellie.”

“John Ross, why did Lucas move to Southfork?”

“Dad. He went and got him. Offered him great jobs. New York City. Washington. London. Houston. Probably a few others before he brought him to Dallas, to Southfork. Lucas was the son dad always wanted.”

“That’s not true.”

“I’m fine with it mom. Really I am. I understand. It was kinda nice having a younger brother.”

“Why’d he change his name from Krebs?”

“Dad put in trust for Lucas 500 million in Trident stock and another 500 million in TridentEO stock, but he has to keep his name Ewing and recognize Bobby as his father or the trust goes to the foundation.”

“Your father gave Lucas a billion dollars to be a Ewing?”

“Believe it or not he felt bad ending up with the ranch and the company. He had no intention of sharing it with Bobby, but he felt guilty. You’ve been divorced forever and he left you the ranch and all the oil under neither it.”

“True. You do know your father loved you?”

“I know. Mom I’m fine. Really I am.”

Ellie walks up and says, “Why are you cleaning the barbecue?”

“Because you drive Uncle Bobby away?”

“Me? I’m not the one dating a married man, and a Wendell at that.”

“Do you think I didn’t know he was seeing Gordon? I know about Austin.”

“Austin?” Sue Ellen asks.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“I stay out of your business and I expect you to stay out of Lucas’s.”

“He’s seeing a Wendell. And with what’s going down you really think that’s a good idea.”

“Either you trust me or you don’t. But I’ve told you before I’ve got this handled. Now if you don’t trust me we’ll just dissolve JRE right now. Call it a day.”

“Of course I trust you.”

“Then I don’t expect to see another stunt like that again. Cause what you just said is, you don’t trust me. You said I can’t handle this so you gotta have my back.“

“No of course not.”

“Then we’re done with this crap.”

“Yes.”

“Thank you, Ellie. Besides, I’ve got other tasks for you.”

Sue Ellen asks, “You two are are thick as thieves.”

Ellie says, “Well momma, we may be wrong, we may be right, but we're Ewings, and we stick together. That's what makes us unbeatable!"

In the warm Argentinian sun Ellie watches a polo match.

Ellie stands watching a polo match in Argentina.

At the end of a match she greets a distinguished, older, Asian player. “Mr. Long. I’m Ellie Ewing.” She offers her hand as a genteel lady.

“Miss Ewing. Hello. Please, call me Dia. Welcome to Argentina.” He gently shakes her hand. “I’ve heard a great deal about you and your brother from my associates.”

“Funny, because we know very little about you and your associates, but I have had the chance to speak to Richard Channing.”

“A fine man Mr. Channing. Such a difficult life. He’s been widowed three times you know. His boys are outstanding young men. Did he mention one of his boys is one of the best polo players in the world?”

“I believe he did.“

“As he didn’t mention me, I assume you and your brother are searching for something. I’m pretty impressed you found me.”

“No you’re not. You let us find a connection. I’m not gullible, nor are the people working for us.”

“No. No you’re not. Why don’t we talk.”

John Ross gathers in the ranch with about twenty cowboys, including Matty and Bobby around a bomb fire. One of them tells a story of John Ross and Bobby battling the brush fire in section forty. “Could of had us a real wild fire.” “Those two never did give up.“ “Never asked a man to do something they weren’t willing to do.”

Bobby takes a swig from his whisky bottle. “That was a tough one. Touch and go. But we saved the ranch.”

“We saved Braddock County,” another cowboy says.

“Reminds me of stories I use to hear about my daddy.”

“That was a good man,” an old cowboy said. “You didn’t dare cross him. But a good man.” Putting his hand on John Ross’s shoulder and squeezing he says, “You’re making this boy into just as fine a man. Your daddy be proud.”

“I remember coming back from Afghanistan and the day Matty brought me here. I’ll tell ya, a Texas cattle ranch is not where a Jersey boy is expecting to end up.”

John Ross laughs, “But no better man to track and take out a lone wolf.”

Bobby laughs, “We ain’t had a wolf since before you were born.”

“We’ve had a few, in sheep’s clothing.”

“Nothin’ I can do about your daddy’s friends.” They all laugh.

“Listen Uncle Bobby, Lucas is ‘bout done with the Wade place. I know you’re probably tempted to move in there. But I want you to know, I’d like you to stay with me and my family, if you want. My boys need a grandpa around and well, Amy’s pregnant again.”

“No way. So soon. Well congratulations John Ross.” Everyone congratulates him and takes a drink to a new Ewing baby. Bobby says, “I’m honored you think of my as a grandpa.”

“Well I never knew my Grandpa Jock. But, Grandpa Clayton. I wouldn’t be the man I am today without him.”

“Yeah. Of course I’ll stay at Southfork. And I gotta run the Wade Ranch. Mad at me or not, Lucas ignores the ranching part of the ranch.”

A cowboy says, “Sons are like that. Gotta fight with the older generation to prove themselves as better, stronger. They grow up and realize, they don’t know how their dad even got up in the morning to face this messed up world. Just takes a while Bobby. Wish I had my dad here to tell him I get it now.”

“Besides, with my daddy in his ear twenty-four seven you didn’t think he was gonna grow up to love the land did ya?” John Ross laughs. “I had you and Grandpa Clayton.”

“And Southworth blood.” Bobby pats John Ross’s back. “Now Kendal, pick up that guitar.”

Sue Ellen sits having breakfast on the terrace with JR against a beautiful sunrise over the sea. She asks him about Lucas and paying him to join the family. He tells her that it’s more than that. He assures her, Lucas can be trusted, that he’s a Ewing through and through.

Lucas gets out of bed with Caroline Wendell. “It’s always a pleasure doing business with you, Caroline.” He pulls on his pants. “And thank you for your shares in Trident.”

“You know you’ve ended my marriage right? When Dorian finds out I sold my shares to you and for so little.”

“Was that all that was holding your marriage together, your share of the Stone family’s shares in Trident. Kinda sad.”

“Get out.”

“You know, your drunken ass kills a kid, and I help you out so don’t face charges, and this is the thanks I get. I’m your friend. Probably only one you’ve got.”

Ellie sits on a park bench and hands a man a flash drive. “It’s everything you need to put Gordon Wendell.”

“It’ll make one hell of a story.”

“As along as you keep my name and my family’s name out of it.”

“Of course. We’ve got a deal. I assume that’s why you came to me instead of Globe Media, which JRE owns.”

“Don’t assume anything. Just take care of this so I don’t have to see Wendell around Dallas anymore.”

“Oh I’m sure this will drive him away.”

“I think this might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”

Rachel plays with Louis in the Culever pool.

A board meeting at Trident gathers, including Long Dia and David Braxton who introduces himself as representing Rosemont Harriman. Matty, Lucas and Judith take their seats among the others. Dorian announces the details about the merger with CalCo. When David objects, Dorian reminds him the vote was already taken and the stockholders vote next. When he continues Lucas cuts him off and says, “Please continue.”

Dorian says, “Antonio De Le Vega will serve as Chairman of the new board while I will serve as Vice Chairman and CEO . . .”

In the lobby of the Trident Building Lucas says to Matty, “What’s going on with you and Rachel?”

“Me and Rachel? Nothing. She’s seeing Louis. Why would you even ask such a thing?”

“Every time I see you two together she’s hanging all over you. Don’t think John Ross hasn’t noticed.”

“I don’t know what’s got into her. She seems to have a crush on me. There’s nothing between her and I.”

“She’s an attractive girl. I’m sure hard to say no to.”

“Not that hard. She’s my best friends daughter. What ever she’s got in her mind, I’m not reciprocating.”

“I’m not saying John Ross would disapprove. Rachel needs someone to get her to settle down. You might be a good influence.”

“She’s also involved with my nephew.”

“Well, just be careful. Things like this can get messy.”

Ellie walks into a small, one room cottage to find Austin pulling on his shirt off. “Looks like you has a filthy day.”

“Every says dirty on a ranch.”

“Hope you saved up some energy.”

He grabs her in his arms, holding her ass tight in his hands. “I wired money to wife. I’m suppose to be off next week to go home, but I took on some extra work to stay.”

“Did you. That’s an assumption I’ll be here.” Ellie wiggles and moans as he reaches up her dress.

“Maybe it’s time I made some assumptions.”

“Like what?”

“Like you like me. Like you’re my girl.”

“I like what you can do.” She enjoys his hand. “But I’m not your girl.”

“I like what you can do too. What if I asked you to be my girl.”

“This isn’t school. I’m not your girl. I’m not going to be. You’re a ranch hand.”

He shoves her away. “A ranch hand who’s pounding you silly.”

She laughs. “A ranch hand I’m paying for services. You seem to be forgetting that.”

“Listen bitch, get on your knees or get out.”

Ellie laughs. “You really think this works this way?”

“I’ll can find a lot of horny sluts around here, I don’t need you. And for blackmailing me over my wife, I don’t care what she knows anymore. I’ll take care of my son. I don’t owe anybody anything.”

“With what money? You think I can’t fire you? You think I can’t keep you from getting another ranching job? You think I can’t hurt you.”

He pounds the table, cracking it. “Bitch, I’ll break you!”

She doesn’t bat an eye. “No you won’t. You’re not stupid. You know as well as I do, you’ll never see your son again you do anything I don’t like . . . Now calm down and finish what you started.” She reaches up and puts her hands on his shoulders, pushing him to his knees. Then with her hands in his hair she pulls him to her, closes her eyes and moans, “Thats a good boy.”

Lucas walks in on Gordon crying on the sofa of the hotel room they share. “What’s wrong?”

“What’s wrong? Don’t tell me you don’t know. I got a call from a local paper for comment.”

“About what?”

“I told you I didn’t want to come out. Why? Why’d you have to do this to me?”

“I didn’t do anything to you. I wouldn’t hurt you Gordon. I love you.”

“Olivia will ask for a divorce. What are my children going to think?”

“Gordon, I’m so sorry. I swear to you I didn’t do this. I’ll find out who did.”

“Get out Lucas. Leave me a lone. This is what you always wanted.”

“No. Not like this. Gordon I love you.”

“No you don’t. Ewing’s are incapable of love. You used me. Now what? You want me to sell you my Trident shares? My Aunt Judith controls them. You’ll have to go through her. I’m sure you’ll find away.”

“Please Gordon. Please.”

“Leave me alone.”

Rachel lays under Matty in bed as he pounds into her, the sheet barely covering his back. Her moans fill the room. Louis open the door.

A television news reporter states, “The stockholders of the Trident Corporation and CalCo both approved the merger today in forming a new corporation, CalCoTrident.

JR says to Sue Ellen, “I can’t believe he betrayed the family,” heart broken, “He could have stopped it, but he didn’t.”

“What are you talking about, John Ross?”

“No. Lucas. He let the merger go through. This isn’t just money Sue Ellen. There are powerful people looking into things, people who out the whole family in danger and Lucas doesn’t have their back.” Tears well up in his eyes.

Sue Ellen sits in the living room with Bobby explaining she had information that Lucas has actually been working with Dorian and that the family could be in danger, including her grandsons.

Amy listens from the entry hall, hand over her mouth in terror.

Lucas walks in Dorian’s office and tosses a file in front of him.

Dorian looks up, “What’s this, everything went off just fine.”

Judith walks in congratulating them on step one.

Lucas answers, “That’s JRE’s Class B shares.”

“You got them to sell them to ya?” Dorian says excitedly.”

“No. You’ll need to read them closely. While it’s never been used before you’ve missed one important detail. The shares went voted unanimously, which I can do as President of JRE, can veto any vote of the combined shareholders. I’m vetoing the merger as well as the slate of Trident shareholders you put up. That you and your aunt. At the first board meeting in five minutes, those of us left on board, I’m firing you and making a motion to make me CEO of Trident. With the stock plunge your failed merger has caused, you should be done in the oil industry.”

In his mega yacht Vicktor throws papers across the room. “Lucas betrayed us!”

Antonio says, “What?”

Lucas closes up at his office walk walks into the hall where he is shot. Three gun shots echo in the hall.

Children are kidnapped in a London park, rushed into an unmarked van.

A limousine rolling along a rural Russian road explodes and lifts into the air before coming bouncing down.

A man sits in a Paris living room, a bullet slices through a window and into his head.

Ellie has coffee in the earliest hour of the morning out on the upper deck behind Southfork. She’s takes a sip, turns to look inside and is shot, falling into the pool.

John Ross, riding out into the pasture hears a shot and turns. He’s shot off his horse.

My version of Season 2:

The Sue Ellen rushes into the hospital emergency room and grabs Matty who’s already there. “How are they.”

“Ellie was only grazed. She’s just fine. You can see her now. John Ross was shot in the shoulder but he’s just fine, a clean shot.”

“What the hell happened.”

“My men took out both shooters, ranch hands on the property. We’re going through everyone right now. Tightening up security.”

“Why would anyone do this?”

“Warnings. We got the message and delivered one of our own.”

“And Lucas.”

“He’s in surgery right now. One of the bullets got his liver.”

“Oh my god.” Sue Ellen collapses into a seat.

Bobby runs in next. Then Amy.

Lucas lies unconscious, hooked up to machines. Gordon holds his hand and Bobby sits across the room when a young boy walks in. “Grandpa.”

Bobby hugs him. “Alex.”

“Is he gonna be alright?”

“I don’t know.” Bobby breaks down and cries.

Gordon sobs over the bed.

A private jet is prepped. Matty says to John Ross, “The liver’s a match. We just have to get him there.”

“He’ll be safe?”

“Of course. I promise you. Go to your meeting. I’ve got this.”

A stretcher with Bobby, Gordon and Alex walking next to it is loaded onto a plat form which raises up to the plain door.

TridentEO office building:

John Ross walks into the CEO’s office and they shake hands. He calls him “Mr. Ewing.”

“Todd, thank you for taking over the lead on this for my cousin. TridentEO buys the Trident Corporation with the massive drop in share value after the called off merger, you recombine the companies in a stock switch of Trident A and B shares for TridentEO A and B shares. The new giant energy company is TridentEO. Seek out a fifty/fifty partner for the chemical operations. Let’s rap this up quick.”

“Will do. Your appointments here.”

John Ross walks into the board room next door and closes the door behind him. “Mr. Sechin. Glad to finally meet you.”

“Mr. Ewing.”

“I got your message loud and clear. Your not happy with my stunt to take Trident away from you. The federal government’s investigating your investment in CalCo. The government of Venezuela’s investment as well. I expected Antonio De Le Vega to be here with you.”

“Where are my grandchildren.”

“Being well looked after. Are you at all concerned about my sister and cousin?”

“No.”

“Interesting. Two people I care about might die because of you and I hold two people you care about and you’re not concerned.”

“Anything happens to them . . .”

“And what? Are they the only two people you care about?”

“You underestimate me.”

“No Mr. Sechin, you came to me because you underestimated me. I’ve got a deal for Rosprom. TridentEO will make a significant investment for two board seats. You’ll sell your shares in CalCo and we’ll work out a relationship between the two company’s including a board seat for an associate of yours. I want you out of the county.”

“My grandchildren.”

“You return to Moscow with a stake in TridentEO, a start. But before you leave I want something which will ruin you if you ever come after me again. I’ll also see that the American government gets no where investigating you. Otherwise you go home with nothing, a failed business deal to report, billions lost, an American incitement and without your grandchildren.”

“I’m not an enemy you want.”

“That’s why I want a rope around your balls you piece of shit!” John ls leans into his face. “Because if my cousin doesn’t come home I’m going to castrate you and everyone between me and you.”

“The other two men you killed . . . “

“I didn’t kill anyone. I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Ask your associates. They’ll fill you in. It’s not me you have to worry about. It’s people much higher up in the food chain than me.”

“Let me just deal with you first. But those people you mention, higher up on the food chain in your country, I’m going to need you to keep them uniformed. You see being underestimated has its advantages. And next time you come after my family, we’ll be ready.”

Amy knocks on a Southfork bedroom door. Rachel says, “Come in.”

Amy enters the room. “Your father asked me to talk to you about Matty.”

“Matty Culver, why?”

“Do you think anything happens in this town without him knowing about it?”

“Then where is he?”

“He’s busy with taking care of Lucas.”

“Of course he’s busy.”

“Don’t give me that crap about how your daddy wasn’t there for you growing up. He was sixteen when you were born. Your mother didn’t even tell him about you. And it’s not like you were raised in poverty. So cut out the poor me routine. You’re a predator, that’s why you went after Matty, pouncing right after his mother died.”

“Well you seem to know everything.”

“Your father wants you to leave Matty alone.”

“What if Matty doesn’t want to be left alone?”

“Believe me, he does. He’s already apologized to your father.”

Rachel laughs. “Apologized for what? We’re both grown adults. What we do together is none of your business. And you’re certainly not my mother.”

“That what you want me to tell your dad?”

“Tell him what you want.”

“You remember that boy you slept with in school? Your dad told him he had nothing against him, figured he was a fine young man, but he had to make an example out of him to warn other guys off.”

“He’s not gonna chase Matty off.”

“No he’s not, but he can make it so you live a very lonely life.”

“Then I’ll go live with my mother.”

“No you won’t. You’re here because she’s even more controlling. So stay away from Matty.”

Bobby and Alex play checkers out on a patio overlooking the Serengeti. Alex finally wins and is ecstatic. Matty whispers in his ear and then walks away. “Say Alex, your father can go home soon. Would you like to spend sometime at Southfork?”

“I’d have to ask my mother.”

“Let’s ask her together.”

Sue Ellen and Ellie sit at the counter in the kitchen of Southfork watching Amy and the cook prepare dinner. Amy hands Sue Ellen carrots to cut up.

Ellie says, “Just because Lucas is coming home doesn’t mean we have to eat pot roast.”

“It’s his favorite,” Amy says.

“So.”

“Ellie,” Sue Ellen admonishes her daughter.

“You know if you found yourself a man you could cool him his favorite meal,” Amy jokes.

“Oh my god, I’m not turning into a house wife for any man.”

“Then maybe get a job? A hobby?”

“I have a hobby. And I’m a Ewing. We don’t get jobs.”

“What hobby?”

“I travel. I see my friends all over the world. Did you see how many flowers showed up when I was in the hospital? I have a great many friends and it takes a long time to see them all.”

Sue Ellen says, “What about settling down with a husband.”

“Why in the world would I do that?”

Amy says, “Get married. Have children.”

“I don’t need a man to have children.”

“Kinda do,” Amy says.

“I mean I could hire a professional for that, pick the right sperm.”

Amy laughs, “That takes all the fun out of it.”

“I can hire professionals for that too.”

“Oh Ellie,” Sue Ellen admonishes.

John Ross helps Lucas out of the car. “Listen, before we go in. I wanted to thank you for helping the family.”

“Of course. You made sure everyone knew we were working together?”

“Of course I did. Especially Dorian.” The two laugh like partners in crime.

Alex and Bobby come rushing out of Southfork to welcome Lucas home.

“You know Gordon didn’t leave your side until the doctors said you were out of the woods.”

Lucas smiles.

The family gathers out by pool, excited to have Lucas home. John Ross pulls Ellie aside. “I haven’t had a chance to talk to you about Lucas.”

“What about him?”

“Your stunt with Gordon. You need to speak to him and make sure he knows it was you not Lucas.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Don’t bullshit me. I’m not asking you Ellie. You set this right on your own or I’ll take care of it.”

“You really want a Wendell in this family?”

“I’d accept a Barnes if that’s what Lucas wants. I ain’t daddy. All that matters is what he wants. Same as with you. Unless you want me change my philosophy.”

Bobby shows off the cattle to Alex. “My granddaddy wanted us all to stay right here and live off the land. My momma was a bit of a daddy’s girl, and so that means she didn’t always please him, but she honored him. This land meant everything to her. Does to me. And to John Ross. I’ll show you your grandma’s land tomorrow.”

“You and grandma grew up together?”

“Yeah we did.”

“Did you love her?”

“She was a good friend, and I love her, but not like my daddy lived my momma.”

“Do you think my dad loves Gordon like that?”

“Gordon? I don’t know. But after spending all that time with Gordon I gotta say I think he loves your daddy like that. I ain’t seen that in a long time.”

“My parents don’t love each other.”

“No Lucas. They do. Just not like that, where you can’t let them go.”

“Ever love someone like that?”

“Yeah.”

“Why are you with her?”

“Wasn’t up to me. Sometimes just not up to us.”

“John Ross love Amy like that?”

“Yeah I think so. I thought they got married to please JR, but yeah I think there’s more to it.”

“It’s nice here.”

“It sure is. You know you can stay as long as you like.” Bobby hugs his grandson.

The rodeo is set up and Dwight Yoakam takes the stage to sing Honky Tonk Man. John Ross takes Amy and dances with her, swinging her around. Bobby takes Sue Ellen out for a spin. A stiff Lucas offers his hand to Gordon and Gordon accepts it and the two start dancing and with all the other guys, they sing along, “I love to give the girls a whirl

To the music of an old jukebox

But when my money's all gone,

I'm on the telephone singing

Hey hey mama can your daddy come home.”

When it’s done, Dwight Yoakam hands John Ross a guitar and the two begin to sing Guitars, Cadillacs.”

Ellie approaches Gordon right after Lucas leaves to go get them a couple beers. “Gordon.”

“Well hello Ellie.”

“I’m just gonna tell you and that’s that. The news paper outing you, that wasn’t Lucas. That was me. I don’t want you near this family, but apparently my cousin does more than I thought. Thank you for being there for him.”

“I don’t know what to say. Is that an apology?”

“Certainly not. Your family’s dangerous. They can’t be bought off, they don’t care about anyone so they can’t be blackmailed, you can’t be scared off.”

“Do you know the story of what happened to Carter McKay?”

“No I can’t say I do.”

“He married my Aunt Judith, and left her his sole heir, six months later. Don’t think you’re done with the Wendell’s. And you’re right, we are dangerous. And the single largest shareholders in TridentEO.”

Clint Black takes the stage and sings A Better Man.

Judith walks up behind him and says, “Hello John Ross.”

He turns to face her. “Well glad you could make it.”

“As always, the best event in Texas is a Southfork Rodeo.”

“Glad you’re enjoying yourself.”

“I’m glad you didn’t veto my place on the Trident Board. Makes things simpler.”

“As long as you remember Trident is a Ewing company.”

“Let us all hope you putting Lucas in charge was a good idea.” Judith pats his chest. “The goal is to make money, not puff up your family’s ego.”

“My family has plenty of money. So does yours.“

“Is there any such thing as having enough money?”

“Well Lucas is good at that, so if that’s all your worried about, he’ll keep the dividends high.”

“The share price could be higher. Wall Street isn’t responding so well to your class B shares.”

“I don’t know what to tell you. That’s not going to change. When my father first took the company public there was a lot of doubt, but it soon went away.”

“You’re not your father.”

“No I’m not. And you’re not your brother. So I’m curious. If neither one of us is really concerned about the money, truthfully you know Lucas will make us more money than Dorian, and we’re certainly not worried about revenge for some family feud between your brother and my father, what are we doing?”

“Power my dear. Power.” She pats him on the chest and walks away.

Ellie walks up to her brother. “That is one determined woman. Long Dia said she’s approached him.”

“So did Richard Channing. But you don’t approach those people. They approach you. So our father said.”

“Seven husbands later, that woman is after something.”

“Acquiring and saving are too sides of the sane coin.”

“Meaning?”

“It might not be her acquiring power as much as it is maintaining what she already has. That makes her more dangerous then her nephews.”

Rachel approaches Matty. “I need to talk to you.”

“No you don’t. I made it very clear to you to stay away from me.”

“I’m pregnant.”

Louis dances with another girl.

Bobby approaches Sue Ellen. “How are you doing?”

“A lot of memories.”

“Lots of rodeos behind us. I keep thinking of JR and how despite not loving the land the way I thought he should, he loved Southfork.”

“He did.”

“But he’s in a better place now. JR was suffering. He’s better off now. The idea of being weak and vulnerable would have been worst for him than any physical pain. I’m glad it didn’t last long, he didn’t suffer like that. You ok?”

“I’ve came to peace with JR. And JR’s came to peace with, well JR. No, it’s just where has all the time gone? Seems like just yesterday Jock and Miss Ellie were the old people. Now we are.”

“It’s nice having someone here calling me grandpa.”

“Yeah that is pretty cool isn’t it?”

“He’s a very polite young man. His mother’s done a good job.”

“Yes she did.”

“You’re worried about Lucas?”

“He’s just taken on too much work. And you and I both know the Wendell’s aren’t done yet. Judith won’t rest until she’s bested John Ross and for some reason Lucas wants right in the middle. I asked Christopher to try and talk to him.”

“And?”

“He doesn’t think he’d listen. He says John Ross is more of a brother to Lucas that he is.”

“He’s probably right.”

“Oh Sue Ellen. I’m too old for this.”

As the night settles in, the rodeo still going strong, John Ross sits on the back porch of Southfork in a heavy lamb skin jacket, sipping a Bourbon and Branch. Lucas steps up and says, “Matty tell you De Le Vega’s in town.”

“Did. I assume your contacts told you the same.”

“Did. Heard he meet with Dorian.”

John Ross takes a sip of his drink. “He’s offering him the CEO job with CalCo. Suppose to turn the company around after the failed merger. Lead it through all the government investigations.”

“Good for him. Landing on his feet.”

“Not what I’d like to see happen to him.”

“I also heard Rosprom dumped its shares in CalCo on the open market. Sending the company further down the crapper.”

John Ross holds his glass up as if to toast such a thing. “Things are gonna get worst for them. Their shipping division is gonna get hit with drug smuggling and there’s a clean up in South America they’ve kept off the books Dorian will put on the books. From what I gather he’s going to do what ever it takes to drive down the share price, and buy.”

“He’s not gonna be able to wrestle control from De Le Vega, is he?”

“We’ll see. Speaking of Wendell’s. How are you Gordon getting along?”

“I don’t know. I’ve been working so much since I got home, I haven’t had time for him.”

“He was by your side every minute of the day. I’m no more thrilled you seeing him than Ellie, but I gotta admit he cares for you.”

“But maybe not enough to wait around for ever.”

“That’s a bit much to ask of anyone, Lucas. You making time for your son.”

“Yeah that’s not been in the schedule either.”

“Put it in the schedule. Family comes first. And was there for you too, everyday.”

Ellie walks in on Austin taking a shower. Scares him, thinking he’s alone. “How was visiting your family?”

“Good. Thank you,” he replies while drying off.

“Good. Family’s important. But you missed most of the rodeo. All the Ewing’s where there.”

“You don’t really care that I wasn’t there.”

“No I suppose not.

Lucas steps up the Judith watching a rope tying event. “I’ve considered your offer?”

Judith does not turn to look at him. “Trade the Wendell family’s shares in TridentEO for your newly acquired shares in CalCo.”

“If you dump your shares on the open market, the effect will be devastating, especially after your nephews failed merger already has the company way undervalued. But the same goes for CalCo.”

“With your father’s shares you’ll own more of TridentEO than JRE.”

“And you’ll own more than De La Vega. If you can get the Venezuelan government out of your way, we’ll.”

“So what have you decided.”

Lucas grins. “Deal.”

Rachel clumsily pushes her way into a bunch house on the ranch in the arms of a ranch hand, kissing each other until she hears a woman’s voice. “Rachel.”

Shocked Rachel turns and says, “Mother.”

“Your father told me I’d eventually find you here. Is this the baby’s father.”

“What?” The guy says.

“Oh god no. You’d better go.” The boy is more than eager to leave. Rachel says, “I take it daddy called you.”

“Of course he did. So who’s the father? Louis? It’s not Matty?”

“And how do you know that?”

“Matty can’t have children. Do you really think Matty didn’t confess to John Ross as soon as he saw him? You don’t know your father and his friends very well do you?”

“Are you sure?”

She gives her a look of disapproval. “How about Dorian Wendell?”

Rachel’s face turns to stone, pale.

“You’re coming home with me.”

“No I’m not.”

“You really think you’re staying here?”

“You can’t make me leave.”

“Darlin’ I can make a lot of people do a lot of things. You really think I can’t make you come back home? Besides if that child is a Wendell, you’re gonna need a great many allies.”

Bobby and Alex role a calf from up on horseback together.

Bobby and Alex ride into the barn together. Hoping off Bobby asks Alex to take care of his horse and then walks up to Lucas. “I want Alex to stay here on Southfork. Both of you.”

“I’m not sure his mother would agree. Besides I’m moving into the Wade Ranch as soon as it’s done.”

“I’m putting my share in TridentEO into trust for Alex. Under your control until he’s twenty-one.”

“If I do what you want?”

“No. Regardless. And if Alex goes back to Italy, I’m going with him.”

“You’re turning over your shares in TridentEO to me?”

“They’re for my grandson, but yes, I’ve no doubt his money is safe in your hands.”

“That’s all you have.”

“The trust will pay be an annuity to live on, but essentially yes, that’s everything I own.”

“You’re giving it to Alex?”

“Do you think you’ll have other children?”

“No. I don’t intend to be with a woman again.”

“Then yes.”

“And Christopher?”

“He doesn’t have children and even if he did, he won’t be aloud in their lives. An it’s not like a Barnes will be without money.”

“Is Alex ok with staying here?”

“He asked me.”

“I’ll speak to his mother.”

Late at night Judith walks into a high rise penthouse overlooking the skyline of Dallas lite up. She says to a shadow facing the window. “Done. Lucas agreed. The papers are signed. The Wendell’s will focus on CalCo and the Ewing’s on TridentEO. We can call this feud resolved.”

John Ross turns around. “And Dorian?”

“I can’t speak for my nephew. I’m curious, I know your shares essential control the company, but why help Lucas?”

“It’s what my father wanted. The three of us to get along.”

“Odd considering the legionary fighting between him and your Uncle. You’re sure you can get congress to get Venezuela out of CalCo?”

John Ross steps up next to her. “Of course.” He had a her a flash drive, “And this control of Antonio De Le Vega.”

“Thank you.”

“I’d advise you to keep Dorian away from my family. Because I have a copy of what’s on there. The punishment for high treason is death.”

“Your friends are resourceful,” Judith says holding up the flash drive.

“Hopefully I can count you among them going forward.”

“Maybe. Like my daddy use to say, ‘keep your eye on your friends, because your enemies will take care of themselves’.” He smiles, tips his hat and walks out.

Lucas holds onto Gordon by the pool at Southfork, the night is dark, the music from the arena fills the air.

Ellie looks down and smiles.

Sue Ellen bends over JR’s body on the terrace overlooking the ocean, crying. “I love you JR. I’ve always loved you. Please just rest now. Please. Oh my god. Oh my god. I love you so much. I always loved you.”

As sad as it would make me, JR would die partway through Season 2.

Sue Ellen stands out in the beach reading a letter. “Dear Sue Ellen, I know you married the most eligible bachelor in Texas and I married the most beautiful woman in the entire world, and neither of us trusted there was anything more to it. I don’t know if I ever believed you loved me, but l learned it didn’t matter. I loved you. And if I end up in hell, I’ll never see you again. But it was worth it, these last years alone with you were the happiest of my life. Love always, JR.” a huge smile comes across Sue Ellen’s face, “I do love you JR. And I will see you again, even if in hell. I’d do it all over again.”

"Love's Theme,” the 1973 instrumental piece written by Barry White plays and a series of clips of JR from the original Dallas.

Sue Ellen flys back in a private jet looking at a picture in a locket and smiles.

The jet flies into the sun set.

Ellie walks into the early morning meeting in John Ross’s study. “So I suppose you heard, Venezuela is being forced to sell their share of CalCo.”

Matty says, “We knew it was only a matter of time.”

“That means the Wendell’s have their own company again.”

“And we’ve got TridentEO,” Lucas adds.

“JRE. Ewing Oil. Several dozen other companies and thousands of investments,” Matty adds.

John Ross asks, “So what’s your point Ellie?”

“My point is Dorian Wendell hasn’t suddenly got all nice and friendly.” Looking at Lucas she adds, “Even if you are sleeping with his brother.”

Lucas says, “There’s nothing to fight over anymore. Judith sold me the family’s shares in TridentEO. They go their way, we go ours.”

Ellie looks at John Ross, “You remember what daddy use to say, ‘Revenge is the single most satisfying feeling in the world!’ That goes for Wendell’s too. He ain’t letting up until he’s bested us. Mark my word.”

The meeting breaks up to find Bobby at the breakfast table with the Wall Street Journal. “My God. The Barnes’s are bankrupt.”

“What?” John Ross says, taking his seat and ordering his breakfast.”

“Apparently some sort of perfect storm. You remember a lot of they’re money was tied up with Bernie Madoff.”

Ellie laughs, “Yeah they list their shirts.”

“Nearly. They still had some other investments. Over the last few years one by one they’ve been picked off. Their last investment in Kenron.”

“Are you serious?” John Ross says. “They’ve just been busted for a book cooking scandal. I was just talking to Lucas about picking up some of the pieces.”

“They’re wiped out. Says they’ve got more debt then they can service, then they can even pay off after selling everything.”

“Damn,” Lucas exclaims. “Cliff, Pam and Katherine?”

“That’s what it says. I’m gonna go call Christopher.” Bobby leaves the table.

Lucas takes his seat. “Well Uncle JR would be all similes. The Barnes’s are finally destroyed.”

Matty says, “Katherine’s got a small amount for a couple of her divorces. Cliff’s daughter also has a trust he set up for her that should be protected and Christopher has his job. But essentially Pam and Cliff are totally broke.”

“That’s terrible,” Amy adds. “I know you all didn’t like them, but you’ve got to admit, totally broke isn’t funny. What’s Pam going to do, have her son take care of her? Cliff?”

Lucas says, “I don’t know and I don’t care.”

“I’ll second that,” Ellie says.

Sue Ellen checks in on the boys. They’re playing games under the watchful eye of a nanny. The grandmother smiles. They notice her. Jack runs up and hugs his grandma. Steven crawls to her.

The family gathers in the living room over cocktails. John Ross hands Amy her drink and she says, “No thank you.”

“Sure?”

“Well I’m pregnant, so I should be.”

“Well got damn! Another Ewing!” He grabs her up. You hear that Ellie? Another baby. Lucas. Gordon.”

Bobby walks in the room. “What’s the commotion?”

“Another baby. Amy’s pregnant.”

“Congratulations. You’ll have this house full up in no time.”

“Fill up?” Sue Ellen asks.

“Amy’s pregnant,” John Ross tells her.

“Oh my goodness. That’s incredible.” Sue Ellen hugs Amy.

The door bell rings.

Alex says, “Congratulations Miss Amy.”

“I’d hope for a girl this time, but with Ellie and Lucy, I think we’d better hope for a boy,” John Ross says.

A maid says, “Ms. Judith Wendell. Mr. Dorian Wendell.”

“Cone in. Come in,” John Ross says. “We’re celebrating a bit. Amy’s pregnant.”

Ellie says to Lucas, “Was this your idea?”

“No. John Ross I assume.”

John Ross turns around. “Now that we’re all here, Gordon, Lucas, you can share your news.”

They look at each other, surprised.

Ellie says, “No way.”

John Ross says, “Quite Ellie.”

“Oh my God. You’re serious,” Ellie puts her arms up.

Gordon says, “Well I asked Lucas to marry me. But I don’t know how John Ross knew,” looking at Lucas.

“I didn’t say anything.”

“And I didn’t get an answer, so I guess there isn’t really anything to tell.”

“But there is. I mean. I didn’t know what to say, but it’s not a question you think about. It’s a question you just answer. And the answer is yes.”

“Yes?”

“Yes.” The two embrace and the congratulations follow.

The Ewing’s and Wendell’s gather around the table. John Ross in Jock’s chair, Amy in Miss Ellie’s, the rest in between, Ellie and Alex, Lucas and Gordon, Sue Ellen and Bobby, Dorian and Judith.

That night John Ross sits out back in his lambskin jacket smoking a cigar. Ellie comes out and says, “Are you serious, congratulations?”

“And so are you. Gordon’s going to be family now. No fighting.”

“But. . .”

“No buts either. You heard anything about the Mexican oil leases?”

“ No but De Le Vega’s sniffing around. Judith got some alliance with him. And they’ve got friends in the current Mexican government.”

“Which is why we need a new Mexican government.”

“Which we’ve left up to you brother. What about Venezuela?”

“Regime change there is proving more difficult. Well it’s never difficult to change a government. It’s difficult to put in place a more suitable replacement. Matty’s got things covered right now in Mexico. At least the back channels. And Lucas has the public channels. I need you looking into CalCo’s other investors. His company is going to be vulnerable very soon. And if we’re there to pick up the pieces, we’ll be hero’s.”

“And pick up the pieces at a discount. TridentEO with CalCo’s primary assets would be seen a super major, wouldn’t it.”

“Hence the point of acquiring CalCo. But what I need from you. There is going to be a regime change in Venezuela. And there oil industry denationalized. TridentEO and JRE need to be ready. Long Dia.”

“He’d like to see China’s oil industry denationalize, but that’s not gonna happen. So, he’s interested in Venezuela too. On the board of SinoZu. Sorry, nothing you don’t know.”

“SinoZu’s main interest to me is rare earth and keeping them out of Venezuela.”

“Rare earth?”

“SinoZu controls seventy percent of global rare earth production. But that’s for another time. Right now they’re too friendly in Venezuela. I’m appointing David Braxton to run JRE. I want the two of you to pay close attention to Long Dia.”

“Sure. What’s going on with Rachel.”

“She got in over her head. Had a little birdie in her ear she shouldn’t have.”

“I see.”

John Ross brings the boys into the hospital room to meet their brother. Amy introduces Marvin Thomas Ewing.

Chairs are set up on the Southfork lawn. Caterers busy setting up.

John Ross, in his tux, approaches Rachel all dressed up, grooming her horses in his stall. “How you doing sweetheart?”

“Hi daddy. I’m fine. Beautiful day for a wedding.”

“Yes it is. School going well for you? You like U of T?”

“I guess. More of the same classes, you know.”

“Oh I know. Never was my thing. I was thinking, you seemed interested in the business, true?”

“I don’t know.”

“Well I was thinking, if you were, I could arrange an internship with JRE. You could work in research. Once you learn to read through financials, you could figure out investing. JRE invests in thousands of companies, some small pieces, others we own the whole thing.”

“I don’t know. I don’t know what I want to do with my life.”

“Louis isn’t with JRE anymore. He’s taken a full time position with TridentEO.”

“Good for him. I want to be here to help you. It’s not easy figuring out what to do with your life.”

“Momma offered me an internship too. She even has an office here in Dallas too.”

“That’s a good idea. If you’re interested. I’ll tell ya, I never was. I pile through financials cause I have to.”

“You’re a rancher.”

“I guess so. You’ll figure it out. I promise.”

Bobby walks in with Alex, both dressed up. “Nothing better than a ride before a wedding. Join us?”

Rachel says, “Sure. Why not.”

John Ross than says, “Sure. I need to head out and check on some work they were doing to section twelve. Had to let go of a ranch hand earlier this week. Lazy. Drinking all day. Didn’t do a damn thing he was suppose to.”

Alex says, “Maybe I could help.”

“You interested?” I know your grandpa could keep you busy over at the Wade Ranch.”

“Yeah real busy. But if you need the help.”

“What was he suppose to do?” Rachel asks.

“Just some fence repair.”

“I can do that for ya,” Alex says.

“Sure. I’d appreciate it. Maybe we can show Rachel. Get her hands dirty. Not to day but first thing in the morning.”

Alex says, “Yeah you work on a ranch, you gonna get your hands dirty and then some. But you’ll love it, being outside. We’re moving the heard next week. You should see grandpa fly a helicopter. It’s so cool. He’s gonna teach me.“

“Can I come?” Rachel asks.

“Of course,” Bobby says. “The more the merrier. Maybe make a rancher out of you.”

With family and friends gathered, Lucas and Gordon walk out together from the back of the house, everyone standing. John Ross stands as Lucas’s best man, Dorian as Gordon’s. They watch as the two are married, kiss and are presented to applause.

Everyone roams around the pool eating appetizers and drinking cocktails.

Ellie asks John Ross, “What are they doing with Uncle Bobby?”

Across the crowd three people gather around Bobby.

“Our Senator, lobbyist and the Secretary of Energy?”

“Yes.”

“Well if the Vice President is remixed . . .”

“If? He conspired with the Russians to rig the election.”

“The key they need is coming from Vicktor Sechin. I can get it. In exchange I want Uncle Bobby appointed Vice President.”

“Serious?”

“A two term Senator. One and a half terms Lieutenant Governor and filling in half a term as Governor of the biggest red state in the union. I think he’s a shoe-in.”

“You’re serious, you want Uncle Bobby as Vice President?”

“If things keep going south in D. C., he could end up President.”

“The Ewing Network is already getting to much bad press. You think it’s wise to push it?”

“What do you mean?”

Ellie searches her phone and then reads, “Searching through the Ewing Network, vast political and lobbying operations through the family’s funding of possibly countless think tanks and foundations, is not just a daunting task, it’s a dirty job. It’s a sobering task, which makes one realize that self serving plutocrats are alive and well in American. They not only exist, they’re not alone, the devil not only exist, he’s thriving down in Dallas, wallowing in crude oil. The Ewing Networks works constantly to not only align public opinion to their will, but to divert our attention from the man behind the curtain . . .”

“Who wrote that?”

“Jerry Burns for the Washington Herald.”

“Who owns the Herald?”

“Its a Globe Media newspaper which is owned by the Globe Corporation.”

“Which is controlled by Rosemont Harriman.”

“Yes.”

“What the hell are they trying to do?”

“According to Dia, we’re being tested.”

“Those are the real plutocrats.”

Elle says, “Yeah well, they’ve got a better curtain to hide behind.”

Dorian dances to a slow song with Amy in his arms. “Three children. Are you planning on more?”

“No I think we’re through. Three boys are enough to ware anyone out.”

“I read about your Daughters of the Alamo award for community service. Congratulations.”

“Thank you.”

“You’ve pretty much taken over running the Ewing-Farlow Foundation, haven’t you?”

“Sue Ellen’s still the Chairman, but yes, day to day.”

“A busy woman. I’m sure your Grandma Mavis would be proud.”

“I’d like to think so.”

“I know Aunt Judith is proud of you. Talks about you all the time.”

“I think my Grandma Judith is more interested in besting John Ross in business than my charity work.”

“At least they leave you out of their feud.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re stuck right in the middle.”

“You have no idea Amy. It’s too much. My father died in prison trying to best the Ewing’s.”

“Well just you stay away from doing such things. Nothing wrong with a little competition, but selling your soul for the win is a problem.”

“When you look at climate change, I’m afraid we all might have sold our souls a long time ago.”

An exhausted John Ross and Amy go to head up stairs. They look in the living room to find Lucas and Gordon cuddled on the sofa in front of a fire. John Ross says, “Welcome to Southfork, Gordon.”

“Thank you. Some getting use to, you know.”

“It’s how ranch family’s live. You headed out first thing?”

“We’ll see. Playing it by ear,” Lucas answers.

“Night.”

Amy adds, “Night.”

Gordon and Lucas say at the same time, “Night.”

John Ross and Amy pull themselves up the stairs, headed for bed.

“Well we found you,” Ellie says to a man being held from behind by another man in a windowless, nondescript room. “Has he told you anything?”

The man restraining him says, “Not a thing.”

“Do you think this is a game? We’re talking life and death, mine and my family’s life and death. Do you understand that?” With nothing said Ellie nods.

The man in control holds the other mans face under water, in the large tub in front of them. He struggles for his life before being let up. Out of breath he begs and pleas.

“Then tell us. You tell us what we want to know and we help you out.” She nods again.

Again the man is held under water struggling fir his life. Let up he’s again frantic. Swearing he doesn’t know anything.

“Well I hope you do. Something verifiable. Otherwise you’re going to live a very long life.” She nods again.

Again he’s shoved down in the water.

In the offices of TridentEO Mattyintroduces Lucas to to a former Senator, former Secretary of Environment and a former Minister of the Supreme Court of Mexico.

“Welcome to our team,” Lucas says. “I’m not predicting much difficulty with Mexico’s bid process. No company has the drilling technology that Ewing Oil has.”

One of them says, “It’s more complicated than that.”

“More complicated? Ewing Oil is can simply get at much more oil than any other bid so we can offer far more money.”

“Yes but the Ewing name carries with it baggage if not respecting the nationalization of oil and gas. For three generations your family has been involved in the destabilization of Venezuela, or at least failed attempts. The current administration isn’t likely to over look that.”

“Then we need regime change.”

“Hence the problem. CalCo has the strongest position. The Wendell family is liked by the current administration.”

“CalCo has a pending lawsuit in Ecuador they aren’t willing to settled, let alone clean up the mess they left behind.”

“I didn’t say they were the best, nor that the people would be very supportive if they knew. I said the people in charge right now like the Wendell’s. SinoZu also has a leg up.”

“Neither have access to Wentworth’s drilling technology. It’s that simple,” John Ross states.

“Unfortunately it’s not. A joint Ewing Oil, TridentEO bid even with Wentworth Tool and Die looses.”

Matty says, “That’s why I’m suggesting a partnership with SinoZu.”

“Then I can guarantee you success.”

Lucas looks very upset.

The offices of JRE an older executive shoes Rachel around. The very open space. The one solid wood door says, ‘Lucas Wade Ewing, President and CEO.’ The executive says, “So your dad wants you to get a feel for the company. He’s talking about six months in each division. I suggested we start in Acquisitions. JRE has main large investments it maintains, like shares in TridentEO. But the company is always on the hunt for new investments. That starts with Acquisitions. They work with the other departments, say Insurance. If there’s an insurance company they’re looking at, they meet with those in insurance. If JRE buys it and decides its a long term investment to be maintained, it will move to the Insurance Division. If not, Acquisitions holds onto it, justifying it each quarter or taking advantage of liquidating it. With proper research, we do not loose money.”

“And you run Acquisitions?”

“Yes that’s my job. Lucas and I worked together in New York. This is his speciality. No one can make a million out of nothing faster than Lucas Ewing. That’s why they call him the Divinator of Dallas.”

Louis walks up. “Rachel.”

“Louis. Are you still here?”

“I’ve been back and forth. They offered me a position in the Energy Division.”

“That includes TridentEO?”

“Yes it does.”

“Two perfect in class B shares.”

“I’m impressed. I didn’t know you were interested in business.”

“I don’t know that I am.”

John Ross grabs up Amy and dances with her near the pool to an imaginary song. Sue Ellen asks about the excitement. John Ross tells her that Amy is pregnant.

Matty meets with a teenage boy in a diner. “My name is Mateo Culver.”

“Ricardo García.”

“I know you. Your mother says you’re interested in meeting your father.”

“”She won’t even tell me his name. García is her name. Are you my father?”

“No. Your father is a very good friend of mine. He’s aware of you and gas paid your mother well to raise you. But your mother didn’t want him in your life. His family is a bit difficult. And your aunt Teresa worked for them.”

“My father’s a Ewing?”

“Yes.”

John Ross opens a letter, the stationary reads ‘John Ross “JR” Ewing, II.’
