Underwhelming.....
There was just no nuance to anything that happened in this finale. The only development that was kinda fun to watch was Dominique play everyone, especially her kids Jeff and Monica.
Trixie?? I am sorry but, WTF???? Out of left field much?? And no build up to it at all. Out of the blue Fallon feels "compelled" to tell Liam the story of Trixie and her death, because Liam's "shocking" secret is revealed about his long-lost kid, and since the show is completely about Fallon, her secret had to be bigger than his I guess?? I agree with you
@thomaswak that the way the Trixie plot was written there was no suspense created and the writers telegraphed everything about the final reveal of Trixie's body in the lake the moment Fallon told the story to Liam. A big wasted opportunity there. And at the end of the day what does this Trixie story give the show? It might give Fallon some angst for an episode in Season Three, and that will be it. End of story, on to the next plot we can burn through in an episode, maybe two. That is the way this show is written.
And I have to say this, when the bodies in the lake were discovered, all I kept thinking was how stupid is Anders to dump two, three, maybe more bodies in the lake right behind the Carrington Mansion??? In Season One it seemed that Anders was intelligent, was the ultimate fixer for the Carrington Family, had a mysterious, almost dangerous aura about him, and would never, ever, be so stupid to dump bodies where they would be found and ultimately implicate the Carringtons and himself. Unfortunately in Season Two Anders, along with every other character it seems, needed to be written as unintelligent as possible because that was the only way the plots could move forward. Maybe Fallon has suffered the most from this. Once again, after her spouting off to Blake about how much smarter she is than him and what a better business person she is, blah blah blah, once again she got played by Blake and Crystal regarding Culhane and the soccer team, she got played by Kirby regarding Femperial, and Adam outplayed them all. How many times now has Adam out maneuvered Fallon?? And yet she has learned nothing from it. The way Fallon is written, I would never let her near any company I owned in a million years.
The other cliffhanger elements, like Adam bashing Liam in the head with the flower pot and Liam ultimately falling into the pool in a stupor were predictable beyond belief. I actually said to the TV "Just fall into the pool already" because what else was supposed to happen but that? And as others have pointed out, Liam is slated to be in Season Three so no suspense there as to Liam's fate.
As I said above, The Colby plot actually provided some surprise. Jeff's diagnosis was a good twist that I did not see coming. The man who prides himself on his intelligence being stripped of that is powerful. I wonder tho, is this diagnosis real?? Is Jeff being manipulated by Dominique, possibly/probably in conjunction with Blake and Adam, in order to get rid of him so that he stops interfering with Blake, and Dominique then gets her money?? And Dominique taking Adam's cufflink from the faked crime scene in the parking garage, what is her game there?? These felt like true Dynasty moments. And I very much hope Dominique becomes a series regular because she is turning out to be a force to be reckoned with, and Michael Michele has a sinister quality simmering underneath that this show desperately needs to exploit to the fullest. Where the show failed with Alexis, they could redeem themselves with Dominique.
In terms of an exciting cliffhanger, this one failed. It is almost too bad that the show blew their wad in the Spring with the shooting of Mark Jennings, Alexis' suicide attempt, and the loss of Crystal's baby. Now THAT was an exciting cliffhanger! Oh well......
So Season Two ends. It's final episode a mixed bag, very much how the season was as a whole. I have no idea where the show goes from here. I am sure the "creative" staff have no clue as well if this season is any indication. My hope is that the producers actually sit down and come up with a season bible and plan out where the story goes for Season Three. Fingers crossed......
