AN HOUR WITH SUE ELLEN

My one shot take on what should have happened when Bobby knocked on the door in Season 9’s episode Olio. I still scream at Bobby for ruining their kiss.

Dedicated to Sarah @Sarah

JR and Sue Ellen gazed into each other's eyes inching closer to share a sensual kiss; they turned when they heard the knock on JR’s bedroom door.

"Excuse me, I'd like to talk to JR for a minute," Bobby said.

Sue Ellen smiled and said, "Of course," with a slight reservation.

"Alone," Bobby insisted.

"Hold on, Bobby. Don't leave, Sue Ellen. Be right back," JR said. He walked Bobby into the hallway.

"I wanted to talk in your room, JR and…"

"I'll talk to you all night but can you spare me an hour alone with my wife?"

"JR, after what you put the family through, you owe me time to…"

JR got in his face. "Hey, listen, I owe Sue Ellen my time first. During this Calhoun fiasco, we've been closer than we'd ever been in a long time. I have another chance with my wife, and you just messed up a tender moment between us. I know it may seem like only a kiss, but you never experienced a kiss from Sue Ellen. Mm, she has the sweetest lips in the world. I won't allow you to ruin something as simple as that for me. One hour!" JR said and left Bobby speechless.

JR walked back in and closed the door. Sue Ellen had a smirk on her face. "What's that look for darlin?" JR asked.

Sue Ellen walked slowly up to him. She placed her hands on his chest and asked, "Do you intend to kiss my lips for an hour, my darlin?"

“Oh, you heard me,” JR said, with a chuckle. His arms wrapped around her waist. She said, “Eavesdropped and I loved it, but I melted when you told me not to leave.”

“Well, you said it was up to me to make things better between us. I intend to,” JR said.

“Slowly,” Sue Ellen whispered, her finger outlined his lips.

They looked into each other’s eyes and tenderly kissed, their tongues knotted as they savored the taste. JR’s hands began to undo the buttons on Sue Ellen’s silky blouse. She reached for the knot in his tie to loosen it. Their lips parted to undress each other; clad only in their underwear. It seemed like forever that they had last made love. Neither JR nor Sue Ellen wanted to rush; rather they wanted to savor the moment.

Sue Ellen turned down the bed-covers. They stood there; pent up desire building between them. Their hands explored, caressed and lightly squeezed until JR gently turned Sue Ellen around to remove her bra. She let out a soft moan when he kissed the nape of her neck, as his hands reached under and fondled her breasts. He eased Sue Ellen onto the bed in a sitting position. He stood in front. Sue Ellen placed her legs on his chest. He planted kisses on her toes and slowly pulled off her thong panty. JR lowered his underwear with Sue Ellen’s helping hands and lay down next to her. He caressed the inner part of her thigh and said,
“I love you, Sue Ellen. I want you so much.”

“Oh JR, I’ve waited so long for you,” Sue Ellen said, in a whisper soft voice.

JR took Sue Ellen in his arms. He paced their lovemaking, taking his time so they could savor in the intimate pleasure they gave each other. It was tender, passionate, and loving. It was JR. It was Sue Ellen. They were so much in love. It was a love that they shared forever.

The End

OK...I have had a think and some of the discussions over the weekend have prompted me to write another version of this, and how I really hoped things could have gone for our couple instead of the absolutely awful way they were treated by the writers in that final season together. This of course would have taken a lot of uncharacteristic maturity on JR's part...but it would have been so worth it....

I like to write a little about Ewing family life behind the scenes as well.

**For the sake of dramatic licence, Pam is in this story, whereas in original she would have been gone by then - just because she is. OK?**

FLIP SIDE

Sue Ellen knew she was late for dinner. She knew this would be frowned upon but she had done her best to escape the ramblings of Nicholas Pearce at their early evening meeting. She'd missed 4 calls from JR, hadn't had the chance to send him back anything other than a quick text and she was sure she'd forgotten something important that she was meant to do. From the moment she'd got up that morning, it had just been one of those days.
She was somewhat relieved to see the family out on the patio enjoying one of Dallas' hottest days all year. Parking her car in the slot beside her husband's, she quickly jumped out and rushed to join them.

"I'm sorry Miss Ellie!" she said, directing her apology to her mother-in-law who sat sipping a cool glass of white wine at the patio table. She walked to JR and kissed him softly on the lips, whispering, "Sorry.." to him as she did. He smiled softly at her, the last one who should be criticising anyone for being late for family dinner, but asked, "Where have you been? I was worried.."

"Late meeting!", she told him, rolling her eyes. "Mr Pearce can talk..."

Although Sue Ellen didn't seem enamoured with 'Mr Pearce' keeping her back from her family, JR felt a pang of jealousy as he looked at her and teased, "Mr Pearce..Mr Pearce...! Does Mr Pearce know about Mr Ewing?"

Sue Ellen raised her eyebrows in a playful yet slightly patronising poke of fun at JR. She had picked up on his vibes about Nicholas Pearce but she did admit to herself that it was rather nice that JR was feeling jealous. How unusual to have him wait at home for her for a change.

Sue Ellen kissed him lightly again on his lips, which he welcomed. "Of course he does.." she said seductively. JR smiled at her as Miss Ellie proclaimed,

"Don't worry Sue Ellen....it's so nice out we've decided to have a barbecue".

Sue Ellen knew she could smell food on her arrival but hadn't realised it was coming from Raoul and Teresa cooking nearby. It sounded just what the doctor ordered and Sue Ellen asked if she could be excused to change. The family were happy with their drinks in the sunshine and didn't mind waiting for her.

Well except for John Ross who shouted as he played sword fights with Christopher, "Hurry up Momma! I'm starving!"

"That makes two of us son!" JR said with a smile as he raised his eyebrows at Sue Ellen, gently chastising her lateness. Being part of the Ewing family was akin to being part of a Royal household. One was not late for dinner without a mighty good excuse. Sue Ellen knew it was an unspoken rule, but over the years had come to wonder was it more to do with the men's stomachs.

Sue Ellen changed quickly into a summer dress that would allow her some much needed relief and air from her office suit. She sighed as she removed her stilletos, changing into a pair of stylish sandals, which gave her a bit of height without the daily pain of her trademark high heels.

She jangled her hair loose, checking her appearance once more before heading downstairs.

Southfork was alive with the sound of family and laughter which was a rare sight but when it happened, everyone was grateful for it. The food that had been so perfectly prepared was wolfed down and enjoyed, Sue Ellen and Pam having to stop the young boys from over indulging, which they often tried to do. Conversation flowed freely, but Sue Ellen noticed JR had been pouting between talking to Bobby and had barely spoken to her throughout the meal. She sensed something was wrong but put it down to him being slightly perturbed by her tardiness with Nicholas. Everything had been going so well with them that she didn't feel it was anything more. She could read 'her two boys' like a book and when they were upset about anything, their expressions were identical.

Thanking Miss Ellie for organising such a lovely evening, Sue Ellen and Pam helped Teresa clear the plates and sporadic mess their sons had caused. JR and Bobby finished off a couple of beers at the poolside, while Miss Ellie and Clayton moved inside as the sun threatened to fade.

"OK boys!" Pam instructed, "Inside, wash up, bedtime soon!"

They groaned in unison. John Ross decided it would be highly amusing to let out a very large belch which Christopher copied, besting him at his own game much to John Ross' chagrin.

"John Ross Ewing the Third, stop that!" Sue Ellen scolded.

"You too Christopher! It's disgusting!" Pam warned. JR and Bobby laughed, leaving no illusion as to where the boys had learned it. The two men looked away from their wives as they stared at them in mock accusation.

Sue Ellen noticed JR say something quietly to Bobby and he nodded, following Pam and the boys inside. Sue Ellen was just about to leave when JR called to her.

"Sue Ellen?" he said softly. "I need to talk to you...."

Sue Ellen called to John Ross to take the remainder of the plates inside, then pulled the patio door behind her son and walked over to where JR stood by the pool.

"What is wrong with you?" she asked in concern. "You haven't said a word to me all evening...is it because I was late?"

"No..no...." JR said stroking her bare forearm and taking her hand. He led her to sit down, removing his own shoes as she did hers. The air was still warm and seeing that JR paddled his feet, Sue Ellen took it as her cue to do the same. She had grown slightly tense in the past few moments, wondering what he needed to discuss with her.

He didn't let go of her hand as he spoke. "I have to tell you something.." JR started. "And it's not easy for me..."

Sue Ellen didn't speak, dreading what he was going to say, her heart starting to beat rapidly as she feared the confession of yet another affair.

JR went on. "As you know, after the Calhoun affair, I have pretty much lost Ewing Oil.."

Sue Ellen looked at him, his eyes not meeting hers, him gazing across the acres of land the Ranch held, obviously finding it hard to look at her.

"..and, in order to gain any sort of standing in the oil business again, I will need to acquire another large company, or a sizeable amount of stock from another large company..."

"Like WestStar", Sue Ellen said, matter of factly. Again JR was surprised by how much Sue Ellen already knew about him and the fact that she showed him she understood was already making the conversation a little easier.

"Yes", JR said nodding.

"WestStar is Ewing Oil's biggest competitor. There isn't any other company who can give me back that standing. They just don't exist. But the company's owner won't sell to me. It will just never happen unless..."

"Unless what?" Sue Ellen asked growing more concerned by the moment. She tried to hide the irritation in her voice but couldn't disguise it.

JR could read Sue Ellen nearly as well as she could read him and squeezed her hand before saying, "...unless I marry his daughter."

In the few seconds it took him to complete the sentence, Sue Ellen could feel everything she'd spent the last few months wishing and working for, slipping out of her fingers. She let go of JR's hands and stood up, the rush to do so creating a splashing effect in the water beneath her. If JR had been able to reach her, it was likely his strength would have pulled her into the water, so instead he pulled himself to his feet and grabbed her arm, stopping her from going inside the house.

Sue Ellen spun around, the anger and fear in her eyes so evident for him to see. "Well I guess I don't have much of a choice then, since your mind is obviously already made up!" she said, her voice raising to a near shout. "You know...this time, I really thought we had a chance!", she went on, "I really believed you meant it when you told me you loved me and that I was the woman you wanted to be with!"

Seizing her arm back, it coiled like a spring against her body as she fought back the tears. "I have put up with some bullshit JR, but this....! I should have known that in the end, the mistress I would lose to would be Ewing Oil!"

Upon speaking the last few words, JR realised that her anger was heightened and when Sue Ellen was angry, she could be ferocious. As she stepped towards him again, there were no more than 10 steps between him and the pool. He took hold of both her arms again as she advanced towards him, determined to dispose of her anger in the most painful way possible at that moment.

Managing to stop her in her tracks JR said, "Are you finished?"

Sue Ellen tried to wriggle free of his grasp, but he didn't let go. Looking into her eyes intently he said, "I turned him down".

Sue Ellen looked to him and then around him as if wondering what had just happened before saying, "What?"

"I said no. I turned him down".

Feeling her relax into his touch, JR gently released her.

"You did?" she questioned, slowly starting to blush in embarrassment.

"Do you really think I would leave you?"

Sue Ellen didn't know what to say. The truth was, she still wasn't completely comfortable in trusting JR after their reconciliation. They had been apart for so long in the lead up to it. JR knew she was still feeling quite vulnerable, but really had done his best to that point to reassure her of his desire to be with her.

When she didn't speak, JR turned his back on her and looked again in the direction of the land. Sue Ellen knew that the ball was now in her court as she heard JR sigh. She walked up behind him and put her arms around his waist, leaning into him and kissing his back. Her lipstick left a faint mark on his light blue shirt.

"You're pouting..." she said softly.

"You can't see my face..." he said quietly back to her.

"I can hear it", she whispered.

After a few moments, JR turned around, still within her arms and said, "Can we finish talking now?"

Sue Ellen nodded, somewhat pacified by his admission. Their damp feet left imprints in the ground as they walked to sit at one of the poolside tables.

"I'm sorry I didn't let you finish..." Sue Ellen said.

"What I was trying to say was.....well....I just don't know what to do, Sue Ellen. Styles....that's the owner of WestStar....gave me one option. And it's not an option". JR picked at the potted flowers on the table, knowing his mother would kill him, but too uptight and worried to do anything else.

"Well you do have other options..." Sue Ellen said.

"Yeah well I can't see any of 'em now..!" JR said, laughing although he didn't find anything remotely funny about the situation.

When Sue Ellen didn't speak, it forced him to look at her and when he did, he was amazed by what he saw. The woman truly was a chameleon. Far from being angry or upset, she was now looking at him with a knowing glance, waiting for him to catch the hint in her gaze.

He seemed to but didn't say anything.

"I can help you", Sue Ellen said, as if she'd just given him the key to Pandora's Box.

"How?" JR asked.

"JR, I love you but you can be incredibly stupid sometimes. Have I not set up my own business? Did I not do it UNDER your nose? Am I not just as capable as anyone else you know? Who better to help you than me? Your wife?"

"You would do that for me?"

"Well you'd have to guide me on some aspects, but yes...of course I would"

"It would mean buying a massive amount of stock. I mean I can fund that to you..."

"I have my own money..."

"It's a fortune, Sue Ellen..."

"We'll negotiate", she said with a wink.

For the first time that evening, she saw the smile she loved. "They won't sell to you with a name like Ewing, that's for damn sure..." JR said.

"You thought they sold Valentines to someone called Sims and Saxet...."

JR laughed, knowing by now it was an anagram of Miss Texas.

"OK....alright....you win!" he said. "But are you sure?"

"I'm only sure I want to buy it to help you. Then I don't want anything to do with it. Oil is your business, not mine".

"Thank you Darlin'"....JR said, with genuine affection in his voice.

Sue Ellen took his hand. "But I do have a condition..."

"Name it" JR said without hesitation.

"Can I have my husband back, once this is done?"

JR looked embarrassed. "I know I've been a bit distant. I'm just distracted. But I promise you...it's just because of the mess I created...nothing else..."

"Thank you for telling me the truth..." Sue Ellen said. "It really means a lot".

"And you are still the most desirable, wonderful woman in my life...always will be..." he said, kissing her hand.

"Shake on our deal?" she said, outstretching her other hand to him.

JR laughed again. Never did he imagine he'd ever be working with Sue Ellen in this way. It both delighted and excited him. This new woman, sitting before him. His best friend, his lover, his ally. She'd been there all along and he couldn't even see past his own ego to appreciate that fact. Until now.

He smiled at the gesture and shook her hand. "It's a deal. And you know in Texas..."

"A handshake is as good as the law...yes yes, I do listen you know", she said.

"You sure do..." he said, looking at her with admiration. Not letting go of her hand, JR stood up, walked to where she was sitting and pulled her to her feet. "I'm not very good with words...as you know...." he said, almost shyly. "But I'm sorry if I've underestimated you....all this time...you were right there...."

"Always have been...." she whispered.

"How I was raised....my Daddy...women weren't....."

"I know", she said, dropping a soft kiss on his bottom lip.

"But I want you as my equal Sue Ellen. I really do."

Sue Ellen stood on her tip toes and kissed him again, this time he deepened it, only pulling away to say, "I love you. I hope you know that".

"I do. I'm sorry if I overreacted".

JR looked down at her, his smile turning from sad to the slightly evil but beautiful grin she loved so much. "That's ok, you can make it up to me upstairs", he said winking.

"Mmmmm..." Sue Ellen said with a contented sigh as she kissed him again. "JR? Promise me something...if you can...if anything like this comes up again, please....just talk to me....I'd rather know."

"I promise Darlin'. I sure am lookin' forward to working with you on this..."

"Given the chance...we can really be something. A power couple..."

JR grinned, "Oh Mrs Ewing....I like the way you think....!" JR said, leading her inside the house and to their bed.

THE END

Why couldn't those bloody writers have thought the way you do. This was awesome.
