At first i wanted to say that they both look great. But then i remembered that most of the S7-Episodes (starting with 7.02) are very, very low in contrast and you will have to adjust the contrast on your TV like 50% up, if you want the episodes to look more normal.
The first half of S7 is alright, before the Kweeeethteena heart crap begins and S8 is the one where the show starts to relax and it's actually quite good as "background noise", if you are working or doing something else and just want to see those beloved characters once in a while on your screen. But are those real arguments for you to buy the seasons? It's your decision. :D
I'm a completist, so that was never a real question for me. Hell, i even just bought that lousy Reunion, just to have the show complete!

Yes, the original broadcast prints from 1986 and 1987 were so splotchy, ruddy, grainy, "hot" and awful, that it was hard to believe they were actually going out over the airwaves that way --- such that the image was almost lost.

Today, from what I've seen of the Season 7 DVDs, it's not nearly as bad, but, yes, they're dark with low contrast, and have a depressingly "yuck" sort of look to them. And yet they're not 10% as horrible as they originally looked 30+ years ago! It's a vast improvement visually but the look still sucks.

I also agree late-S7 is the worst, while you can tell the producers just stop "trying" during Season 8 and the negligence actually helped. Sure, S8 is dumb as a box of rocks, but Season 7 was a La Brea tar pit.

Sometimes I think DYNASTY just had too much potential to live. It had to be destroyed. :(

Yes. I'd owned 1, 2 and 9 for years.

I bought 3 thru 6 a while ago, with some reservation.

I understand. I just own season 1 & 2 on dvd... And I think I will buy season 9.

This is just shocking. We wanted Dynasty on DVD, we wanted it so, so bad. And now we're discussing the DVDs that we shouldn't buy - on the Dynasty forum of all forums?

I was thinking about the complete collection once. But now I have many doubts about this purchase.

That's true, we are very lucky. Everything is out on DVD, even The Colbys and the Reunion. CBS has transfered the whole 9 seasons of the main show to stunning HD.
So Dynasty by far got the best treatment from all the big 80s primetime soaps so far. I'm very grateful for that. And i appreciated it with my money for all the DVDs, some of the sets i bought even twice, because from s6 on the US version was far superior, while the Europan version used the old TV broadcast masters.
And i would buy the whole thing again on Blurays, if they would just release it , even though i have some seasons already in full HD resolution.

Get the US version, the picture quality is SO much better, it's like night and day. Of course it doesn't have the french dubbing, but the english audio is of good quality and it has english subtitles of course. I never watched my German s9 box after i bought it apart from maybe one episode, the picture just sucks so much in comparison and looks like taken from a video tape recording with all that color flickering. Just plain awful.

I say buy 'em. I mean they are two awful seasons. I personally would rather watch season 7 than 8 but just get it to have it all. There is still a lot of pretty in it to look at even with all the bullshit surrounding it.

I'd rather watch Dynasty S7 and 8 from DVD than anything that's now on network TV.

The hundreds spinoff of NCIS or CIC or CSI and lots of reality TV crap and casting shows.. just :fp:
The only decent network-TV show of the last decade for me was "Grimm".

There was just a darkness, a pathological darkness, which hung over DYNASTY. A darkness fated to eclipse its hallowed potential.

I keep changing my mind about this. But Sean Rowan scores extra points for showing up in Sons & Daughters.

I think I hate season 5 right now. I see...Fallon's funeral and...Jack Coleman trying to cry. And I feel hatred.

Then there is Jeff's Whore eulogy too. Season 5... Ah... season 5. At least there is Alexis' puff ball hair and all the pretty.
