I just hate season 8. It feels like nothing happens the entire season. You have that political race where two leads of the show spend the entire season engaged in a race for governor. Yet neither of them ever explains why or what they intend to do. They don't even bring in some secondary outside characters to prop up the campaigns of Alexis or Blake. Someone to give them some reason to campaign. What are they doing this for? Alexis gets shot in the head but Blake saves her, the bullet merely grazing her shake&go wig. Who cares?

I would rather take Sammy Jo and Steven's doomed relationship delta woes and the faux Knots Landing journey of season 7 over season 8. Every time! I usually ever even bother with season 8 in a re-watch. Sometimes I just watch the finale and go to season 9, sometimes I cherry pick a few episodes to watch. Most of the time I just don't watch it. I hate it that much.

No, I cannot ever re-watch anything with Sarah Curtis. Once was more than enough. Season 8's political campaign is pure idiocy, but it is focused, whereas I like that they younger generation has some new interactions--with Adam and Fallon voting against Steven in DC for instance, and Josh Harris was a more intriguing possibility than Tanner faux Bricassart later. I also liked how they revived Samms' Fallon and had her split from Jeff. It is of course full of missed opportunities, but then this is DYNASTY in the later seasons. I do wish a better actor played Sean, and that some other storyline was developed for Adam instead of the surrogacy. So, certainly not a season I like, but I'll take it over 7B any day of the week and twice when Alexis is with Gavin Maurie.

I'd rather rewatching season 8 or the Reunion than season 7B.

But season 8 is so stupid and incoherent. If Sean wants to have revenge on Alexis, why saving her ? He could have let drown herself and get his revenge on season's premiere ! And why trying to harm Blake (more than Alexis actually) throughout the whole season ? Blake and Joseph always were in very good terms. Was he too hard for the writers to find something to make it logical ?

It would have been easy to find something that could cause Sean's hate towards Blake. Alexis destroyed Joseph's life, Blake could have destroyed Alicia's life, even accidentally. Something linked with Alicia killing her lover and being sentenced to jail.

Or, Joseph set up Alicia by killing her lover so that he and Blake would live together as a happy closeted couple, but Blake told him that he could not go on having sex with him because he had observed a discernible lapse in the running of the house (he did see that crooked painting when he regained his eyesight in season 2). Blake's rejection made Joseph literally forget all about Sean and Victoria, so they were raised in Ireland , and the wrong side of driving warped all of their wholesome North-American sense of decency.

In my mind, Alicia and Mrs. Rowan are two different people (after all, no one ever talk about "Alicia Rowan", just of "Alicia" in season 4 and "Sean's mother" in season 8).

I see Mrs. Rowan as a female version of Joseph : very rigid and conservative - probably very religious too - while Alicia is a feisty latina who trapped Joseph into an affair, and forced him divorcing of Mrs. Rowan (the mother of Sean and Victoria, who returned in Ireland with her children) when she got pregnant of Kirby. But once Alicia had the majordomo she wanted more : the master of the house. But Blake rejected her. Alicia eventually set her sights on one of Blake's friend and run away with him. When he tried to dumped her, she killed him.

I thought everyone agreed that Alicia Rowan was Eartha Kitt?

Only if they used her in flashbacks, or else why have her dead?
But if the show cared to use Dominique, she could have really become a thorn on Alexis' side, and Alexis would have found this Parisian cabaret owner who remembers a young Millie when she started her career at her establishment, and has a lot of dirt on her--played by Eartha Kitt.

I forgot what I always wanted in season 8! Adam trying to get Ted Dinard’s family to star in ads against Blake
Yes, oh yes! That would have been more interesting than the "Blake in a brothel" video or whatever it was. All the men from Denver's high-society frequented Cora Van Heusen's house so, who cares?

After all, the best part (or what could have been) was the public fight between Mr Carrington and the first Mrs. Carrington.
The Dinards vs. Carrington, and Cecil's death vs. Alexis.
A public spectacle that would shock nations worldwide. In my dreams.

Yes, Kirby finds her mummy, in Dominique and then Alexis finds Dominique's madam.

Although the show would never have pulled off such a story. They were way too fake for that. Can you imagine Diahann Carroll agreeing to play a prostitute on Dynasty?

Ah the video tape. Another uttlery stupid and illogical thing in season 8. They never bothered to explain if it was a surveillance camera (but do brothels have such things ???) or if the hooker took a camera and filmed Blake for whatever reason.

After all, the best part (or what could have been) was the public fight between Mr Carrington and the first Mrs. Carrington.
Since Joseph was mentionned several times in season 8 (and since I would have liked Krystle investigation about Cecil's death in late season 3), it would have been nice if Krystle has found Joseph's scrapbook with some embarrassing informations on Alexis.

Or, as Leslie Carrington put it in North & South: a black whore in New Orleans!

I continue my rewatching of season 7. Until "the portrait" it was totally watchable (if I do not think of all the continuity errors), with the exception of "the secret" (the episode with that damned Emily Fallmont - the taxi driver should have had a reward for killing her !)

The two episodes in Singapore are more and more enjoyable each time I watch them. It's like a gift for the fans who endure the sh*t that was before. At the end of the story, Joan Collins cries and it seems genuine for once (I even saw a tear falling on her cheek !)

But after that it's not only a borefest but they are A LOT of scenes wich look like a parody except that it is played deadly seriously. The only positive thing is having the characters now watching at their lives and commenting on them like real people. But such BORING real people ! I prefer watching season 6A with everyone being uttlerly silly. At least it's fun at times.

The scene with Ben baking and singing to Leslie is so tacky and absurd. The only way I can cope with it is thinking that their meat is human. It may be Amanda's meat actually.

Sorry, but I can't even comment on 7B.
The Singapore episodes, when I first watched them, were a complete surprise, and they are even more so when I look at the series as a whole and what follows. They are fresh, they are a very imaginative way to give us Blake and Alexis, and I also like Krystle and Dex bonding as they wonder about the two exes. Even some episodes in 7A, while full of plot developments, are quite discombobulated--like every single scene is overall plausible and fine, but they don't come together as a whole episode. I am also glad they edited out the scenes of Michael and Amanda at the lake (in the first part, where they would have the fight, and in the second part where Dobson, a man who had seen them at the lake, talks to Michael and Michael denies they really fought, while Steven calls him looking for Amanda and Michael says she is out of reach at the boat) since they would take away from the focus of the story. I like how Adam feels guilty about lying to Steven knowing how worried he is about Blake, and of course somehow Forsythe and Collins manage to interact with real chemistry, despite the tension between them (or maybe because of it).

I wonder why Alexis does not mention Amanda. Yes, initially Blake thought this was 1964 and she was born in 1965, but by that time Alexis had brought Blake up to date to 1987, and had even mentioned Adam. Had the show already decided to "erase from existence" (to use a Back to the Future reference)?

No, I think the writers purposely choose not to mention her. After All, Amanda was born after Alexis' exile. Of course, Alexis could have lied about it and just said "oh and we got a fourth children : a beautiful girl called Amanda". But since Blake did not remember her, he could not have shared his souvenirs of her, so it would not have added anything to the scene.

I always was suspicious about Anders. He was so protective of Blake, and kind of jealous or unwelcoming to Krystle and Alexis. Plus, him and Blake spent years without women in their lives? Come on, I'm quite sure Anders was happy to fill the 16 years void left by Alexis when she was banned from Denver. I mean, someone had to take care of Blake's draining all those years.
