Wearing Face Coverings In Shops

I have to say, I'm surprised I don't see more face coverings for sale in shops. The only place I've seen them for sale is WalMart, and they were selling boxes of the cheap, disposable ones. I assume all these bright, tasteful versions I see around town with all kinds of bells and whistles are home-made or (more likely) cottage-industry types making them to sell to friends. No fashion houses or major clothing retailers are advertising their versions, though they've certainly had time to retro-fit their factories to make them.

I see them all over the place. Including Union Jack ones.

I was quite taken with this one being sported by someone online.

I seem to remember that Hannibal Lector was one of the first people to wear one. Maybe that prison he was in had a few people coughing. You can't be too careful - I think it was very sensible of him.

She put her mask on over her glasses which is another mistake which will make them steam up. You need to put your mask on first and then put your glasses on over the top of them.

A bit of experimentation revealed that trick. The ones I have don't have metal strips but placing it just below my eyes minimises the steaming and it mostly stops after a while when they warm up.

Another thing you can do is use a small piece of microfibre/medical tape over where your mask reaches the bridge of your nose. This will reduce the amount of exhaled air going up into your glasses and stop them steaming up. The key thing though is put the specs on over the mask and not the other way around.

Here in the US many people have been wearing masks since March. It was only recently this became a must and now that people are fighting it. Why? Because they don’t like wearing them.

There are people protesting against the so-called infringement of their rights here as well. There are some exemptions on medical grounds and the like but most people are complying.

I heard a woman shout outside a chemist the other day ‘F***’ that - claiming the masks were too expensive for her family of 5. It does make me wonder if people are having to choose between them and food. The chemist was apparently charging £25 for a packet.

They don't have to wear surgical grade masks just a face covering. I'm sure that woman has a scarf, a sock, a tshirt or another item of clothing that she could used to cover her face. Ideally she should have 2 items, the second to stuff in her mouth to prevent her spouting more nonsense.

The next time these people go into a cafe the staff shouldn't wash their hands before serving them because it's an infringement of their rights to insist that they should adhere to strict hygiene practices.

All I know is, after an hour or so wearing one in the shop yesterday it was horrible. Every time I breathed out my glasses would steam up, it was the most unnatural thing I have experienced and I really do feel for all those nurses/doctors/carers having to wear them all day, every day.

Same happens to me. My glasses fog up. And then if I’m doing a lot of heavy moving lifting if it’s hot and I sweat it beads right off Of my head drips on my glasses making it worse then it also makes my mask wet.

They are supposedly looking out for gougers but there does seem to be a wide disparity from different suppliers. But what @Angela Channing says is true here also - it is only "face covering" that is mandated, not any specific type of mask

That's what it says at the Wal-Mart in my area, actually-- "face coverings are required," per state order (I think that's the wording that is used.

I'm going to have to take that back now. The latest directive does require a proper mask. Face shields especially are no longer an acceptable alternative.

Talking of face coverings, I went to see The Phantom Of The Opera last night. The main character was wearing his all the way through the performance which made his voice a bit muffled, especially when he was singing but fair play to him. At least we all felt safe.

I have no problem with masks but that’s the part that bothers me. I can’t understand what anyone’s saying to me anymore. It’s very frustrating. My supervisors at work are asking me things and I don’t what they’re saying. I have no clue what I’m agreeing to
