I've noticed that the daytime soaps that have returned are....well, boring.
I also had the image in my mind that the writers would have the luxury of time to rewrite and polish their scripts to a point that the new material would be must-see TV. Instead, the scripts are mostly like a paint-by-numbers set because more emphasis was placed on just getting something...anything on tape just so they can say they're back on the air. I understand they had all these new rules and techniques thrust upon them that demanded their attention (keeping people healthy), but the soaps are just kind of lame right now. I fear this might be the fate of NuDynasty when it returns. It won't be terrible, nor will it be terrific; it'll just be...back.
I understand they will adjust what should have been in the last two episodes, plot-wise but I have not read anything about casting or "un-casting". We might every easily have cast members or staffers who simply opt not to return out of concern for their health. On General Hospital, one of their actresses, upon learning she was pregnant, opted to take extended maternity leave for the duration of her pregnancy rather than return to the show, so they had to recast her role. Another actress had to be temp-recast while she sat out a two-week quarantine. The last thing this show needs is another recast, but it is something to keep an eye out for.
If they could do some kind of 'bubble' filming situation at Eagle Rock Studios, they would have a better handle on keeping everyone well, but it would necessitate a lot of rewrites to edit out any location filming. We could possibly get our very own Cardboard Patio.
