Like many of our members, Toni shares one of his many talents with the community creating videos dedicated to all the big soaps, you can find these across all our soap dedicated forums, or go straight to his YT channel by clicking here I would highly recommend you try and catch some of these if not all of them over time. You won't be disappointed.

Toni also has his own website dedicated to all the soaps which you can find by clicking here

The site is a wonderful place to browse for fans across all the big soaps.

Toni also took part in our first SOAP CHAT BIG BROTHER. He played the role of Aubergine de la Bitch, but sadly, didn’t last long in the game, due to other commitments.

But what else do we know about Toni, and what don’t we know?

Please take this week to ask as many, or little questions you have for Toni including any follow-up questions that might arise during the week.

Enjoy your week in the spotlight.

I will start with one question that intrigues me with everyone.

Toni, if you were to take part in Mastermind (a quiz show) what would be your specialist subject?

Hi @Toni, really hope you enjoy your week.

1. As a huge soap fan, if you could take 6 people out of all the soaps and put them together in a new one, who would you choose and what kind of soap would it be?
2. Who is your favourite soap character ever?
3. Which soap character would you have killed off because you really didn't like them?

Thanks a lot for your wonderful introduction @Ome, you made me sound as if I were the most interesting person in the world (which I´m not... that´s why I befriended Miss Piggy!).

If "Mastermind" is as "difficult" as the Spanish quiz shows, I´d be the champion! I´d choose the subject of classic movies with no doubt at all! Movies were a big interest to me since I was a young teenager. Instead of comic-books or educational books, my dad used to give me books about cinema: classic stars (the famous series of Citadel Press), encyclopedias focused on the history of films, and so on. So I do remember a lot of stuff of American cinema, mainly.

1603105958280.png

This one is really good... I still have it!
Later on, I did read about other countries´ directors and stars, and also watched a lot of European movies, since Spanish public TV began to air subtitled foreign films of "auteurs" like Godard, Visconti, Passolini, or Bertolucci. Anyway, only the latter did impress me, and the others came across as too narcissistic to me. Of course, it was the impression of a poor Spanish kid, curious for other cultures. Thanks in advance to all of you for your questions!

However, a certain lady wonders... "What about..."

1. This one is a tough one. Maybe I´d go for a soap version of "Gilliland’s Island" and would choose only hunks: Bobby, Gary, Jack Ewing, Cole Gioberti, Father Christopher and Greg Reardon, all of them shirtless and sweaty in every episode, and would include (non-incestuous) sex scenes à la "Footballers´ Wives". Maybe I would call it "Titillating Island"!

2. Pamela Barnes Ewing. Who else could it be? Those who know me well did know what I would answer. When I was only 13, I discovered her (and Bobby´s cuteness) and her feisty persona made me wish I were more like her since I was quite introverted.

3. Again, who else could it be?

Thanks a lot for your questions @Barbara Fan!

1. What did you think when you first saw the Muppets and who was your favourite? lol Who was your fav guest star to appear on the Muppets?

The Muppets were introduced in Spain through a show that gave previews of the next week´s TV programs, a bit like "The Simpsons" were introduced as part of "The Tracey Ullman Show". I thought they were a hoot, hilarious, and my only problem was that I didn´t know many of the guests back then. My biggest crush was on that fabulous superstar that is Miss Piggy. I found terribly telling that a few years later the actress who voiced her (because it was a woman in Spain, unlike the original show) also dubbed Pamela Sue Martin as Fallon on "Dynasty"!! Talk about "kin spirits"! I do have watched all their movies, and one of these days the new shows too. One of the things I don´t share with her is that I´m a basically peaceful guy... and hate physical confrontations! My favorite Muppets guest star was someone I think you dislike very much, Julie Andrews. Miss Piggy says that, to this day, Ms. Andrews is the only one who came close to overshadow her on stage...
2. What did you think when you first heard the "real" voices of the Dallas cast (I once saw Dallas dubbed in Spanish which was fun trying to guess what they were saying)?

Well, I guess I was as shocked as you might be when you listened to the Spanish voices. The women´s voices were the most shocking because, honestly, I think the Spanish counterparts sounded more beautiful. Victoria´s voice did disappoint me, though by now, I´m more used to it and love her laughter especially. I did like Barbara´s, Howard´s, and Charlene´s voices though. Also Susan´s and Steve´s, and also my dear Patrick´s. About the guest stars, I have a soft spot for the voices of Lois Chiles and Alexis Smith.

The problem with the Spanish dubbing was that they really had to rush to finish the episodes in a record time, especially in Spanish (the show has been aired in three other regional languages of Spain), because the post-Who Shot JR era was aired very late into the 80s, and shown as a daytime soap (!) with 5 episodes per week. The dialogues' translation was atrocious in some cases, and the characters´ names were mispronounced, sometimes the dialogues said nonsense things and nobody seemed to care about it. "Southworth" was "Southfork", "Jenna" was "Gina", "Kimberly" was "Kimberlay", and JR´s one-liners had additional "nuances":
"Joan of Arc would have been a drunk if she had been married to you" - "But she is not and you are".
In Spanish: "Joan would have been a drunk if she had been married to you" - "You should be burnt in a fire like her!"

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

3. What are your memories of MIrande as I think you went there in ?? 2007 and what Dallas cast members impresssed you or disappointed you and why?

It was a very intense experience, especially considering all the "facts". I went there with my then boyfriend, and had to use bus since we don´t drive. It was a long ride and I couldn´t actually sleep on the bus. When we got there, the place where we had to sleep wasn´t too comfortable or even quiet, so I didn´t sleep either. The next day I was sleepy and tired, when we got to meet the Fab 5, I was a wreck. It was a very exciting experience, and it´s hard to describe it in words. That's the only true fan activity I´ve ever had (my dreams don´t count!).

The only real frustration or disappointment had to do with the fact of how the responsible people handled the signing meetings. We were very far from the actors, even when our turn to meet them arrived. They didn´t allow us to give them anything to sign aside from the overpriced official picture. And I had carried the Suzy Kalter book with me, so I was disappointed.

My biggest impression was indeed Ms. Linda Gray, aka the very wonderful and fabulous Sue Ellen. She wasn´t anything like her character, not even in the way she moved or smiled. When I first saw her, I thought: "Oh mine, she looks as if she still is running Valentine lingerie." She didn´t look as the long-suffering, early Sue Ellen, but as the powerhouse that divorced J.R. I managed to exchange some lines with her, and told her when she would come to Spain (since then, she did visit Spain once, I think). She didn´t know that Patrick, Steve, Larry and Charlene had already been here, and asked Steve about it, and he said that it was a very brief visit for publicity reasons.

1603115855211.png
1603115882580.png

Bobster: "Spain? Isn´t that the third world?"
The Linda: "Oh, Pat says he´d love to come back soon..."

Linda shined and oozed elegance and bliss. I was so happy that I couldn´t say a word to Steve or Patrick. Then I met Charlene and said to her the same thing about Spain, and she did remember she had been there with her baby Cherish, who we saw later was with her. Charlene was very generous later on, and posed for us in a few pics. She was really enjoying her time there.

The story about Larry I have explained it before, so forgive me if I repeat myself. He was the last in line to sign the pic, and when he gave it back to me, I did the blink gesture with arms and all from Jeannie. He recognized it and smiled and pointed at me. After saying thank you one million times, I left but I couldn´t really walk. I was so frozen by the emotions!

Hours later we shared dinner with all of them, and the many fans, though the actors were logically isolated from us. The truth is that they were 3 meters away from us only, we were lucky to be so close. They had their spouses with them, except for Patrick and Charlene, who had Cherish. When everyone finished their dinner, it was time for pics again. I was surprised that Linda took photos of us with her own mini-camera.

At some point, I noticed that Steve was talking to a fan (@Ray&Donna, one of two members I have met... so far), and I dared to join the talk. I told him we were from Spain, and he kindly shared a couple of minutes with us (there were bodyguards to keep poor us away from them, as if we were stalkers...). To this day, I thank her for not minding me being there with them! Then came the country music acts (it was a music festival after all) and the toasts and fireworks, making it a perfect night.

1603116063244.png

"Where is Waldo/Wally, I mean, Toni?"
Yes, one of those is moi!!

But the morning after... It was Sunday and I and my bf were going to take the first of two buses to go back to Barcelona, but we were told there was no bus until Monday. But we were on a limited budget, and couldn´t pay for another day there, or take a taxi since it was quite far away from Mirande. We were so lucky that one of the French fans we had met offered to take us there so we could get on the bus to Barcelona. We almost missed it by one minute...

I could go on and on about this, but I´d rather tell you that if you have a chance to meet your idols, don´t doubt it for a minute. We don´t have conventions in Spain unless they are SciFi-related. You can get a good impression or a bad one, but if you get to transmit something, anything, to them, it will be worthwhile. For what I have read, most people do have good interaction with fans and can even stay in touch with some of them. Another thing that I regret is that I couldn´t shake their hands or meeting @Karin Schill, who initially was going to be there too. I´m also very grateful to Colin for letting me use his name to talk to them if there was any chance to make an interview for my own site.

4. Do you like Sports - do you have a favoutire football team (Spanish wise I love to watch Messi) and are you athletic?

Actually, I don´t. None of them. They bore me to tears. Football is the least favorite of all, I think everyone is unfairly overpaid and there are a lot of fanatics among the fans (wait, didn´t the same thing happened with supersoaps...?). When it´s football (American soccer) night on TV I have the feeling of living in an asylum because of the screaming!!! So no, I´m not athletic either. I once tried the pig´s Snackcercices, but I only got to the part of "snacks". Not that I wouldn´t like to be a bit thinner...

1. I enjoy your videos and often they contain little bits of facts about the soaps that I've not seen before. Where do you source your information?

Thanks for your questions @Angela Channing. I started gathering info when the show started its run in Spain: press reports, episode synopses, magazine interviews... Then I bought the Suzy Kalter book, which includes quotes from the cast and crew. When I discovered the internet (1999), I found the UD site and many other Dallas-related webs that don´t exist anymore. I got archives of info that I copied from them, interviews, trivia, airdates, etc., very specifically from "Dallas" and "Knots Landing".

I never "copy and paste" anything at all, I try to give my opinion all the time. To my shock, Spanish Wikipedia has ripped off text from my site with no mention at all. They even have the nerve to ask for donations... In most of the sections of my supersoaps site, I have checked out the info through a lot of sources though. This is good and bad. I also had to endure seeing another whole page of my site in a Spanish book about TV series... all in my own words! That´s the unpleasant side of this.

When I talk about "Falcon Crest", the main reference is www.falconcrest.org, the underrated, amazing site ran by a group of diehard fans, including @TJP. They do feature ALL about the show. And are very generous to share it with all of us, because none of the actors call them home and ask them for an interview... but the opposite. Ana Alicia was incredibly kind to all for us too, when she participated in a Q & A session... which ran a whole hour! The interview is not on at this moment, but I´m working on a way to bring that chat back. I don´t think she skipped any question from us!! Classy lady all the way! Also, I keep tapes of interviews with the stars for Spanish programs. They said some things they didn´t say at the time, and were quite refreshing and terribly fun. For Dallas and FC fans mainly.

2. You clearly (what´s THAT supposed to mean...?) have an affinity for Miss Piggy, would you say you are a bit of a diva like she is?

Well, a diva is a diva... or a divo. I don´t know for sure, that should be said by people who know me. I´m a Gemini-Rising Pisces (@Snarky's Ghost, does it mean anything to you?), so I´m always looking for balance. Being an introvert and a methodical person, when I get bored with myself, I may turn to diva mood! I love parody, sarcasm and clever humor, but I try not to be mean to anyone. Which is not easy, by the way. We may look like something we are not, and I have been told that often. Also, "rainy days and mondays always get me down", to quote my beloved Karen Carpenter. I try to enjoy even the bad days, though the current situation is very very hard to overcome.

3. How long have you had your Supersoaps website for and what motivated you to set it up?

In 2001 I started my first net venture with a Yahoo Group called "Dallas Talk/Charla Enserie". It was a very old-fashioned way to chat with people who shared likes with you. I remember that I made up the "Pam´s Twin Sister" persona to chat about gossip related to the Supersoaps stars, all with the best possible taste! I soon needed a better niche, and created the first version of my site, then called "Dallas Universe/Mundo Dallas". Here is what the second version of that looked like:

1603119262702.png

The website looked quite pedestrian back then, and even now I give more relevance to the content (including the videos) than to the look. In fact, what led me to create the site was, in the first place, that I couldn´t find anything Dallas-related in my language. It took 13 years to air the complete series in Spain, though we didn´t have summer hiatus, only battles for the airing rights! I only know one that did the same (in both languages): "Big Dallas". It wasn´t too reliable, and the episode listings weren´t complete. It disappeared one day and never was seen again. "Dallas" was big in my country, and I know that also in Latin America, so I was sure it would attract its old viewers.

When Geocities stopped functioning, I had to upload it all to a new site server, which is the current format. I also expanded the soaps content and included "Falcon Crest", and "Dynasty". Still pending are the pages for "Flamingo Road" and "The Colbys", which only feature so far the episode listings. Many people thank me for the videos in Spanish, and the Spanish content of my site. But you can read every text in both languages in the same pages, English in italic. Recently I had to revamp the site (again!) for a technical change in Google sites, so I apologize if you notice some things that don't appear where they should be. I´m currently working to correct that, and also to make new videos. Thanks for all of you have encouraged me thru the years and have "liked" my videos!

Hello @Toni ! :123:

I see you are from Barcelona. I've been to most of the major cities and areas of Spain but unfortunately never to Catalonia, yet. Has a second wave of COVID-19 hit your area? I was upset to hear how bad this pandemic hit Spain earlier this year. Has any sense of normality returned or are restrictions in full force? You live in a beautiful country.

Thanks for your questions Shelley!

Yes, I do prefer Michelle over April, though only in her first season. As happened with James, the writing worsened when they were brought back in the last season. Come on, she owning Ewing Oil? I´d have preferred Holly Harwood or Sue Ellen instead. I liked Michelle´s voice, look and attitude. She clearly predated the "Melrose Place" women and not only in her hairdo. But putting her against Cally or Lucy was dumb (funny at first, but dumb). She didn´t interact with too many other females, only with the guys...

Yes, I´m Barcelona-born, though I have lived in other areas of Spain. You should come to Catalonia when things get better, you will love a lot of things here. Though Barcelona´s beaches are not recommendable, there are many places that must be visited. About the pandemic, not only the normality has NOT returned, but there seems will be a third wave coming soon, when we are with high restrictions again because of the summer´s "distractions". All bars and restaurants are closed in Barcelona this week. Some of them permanently.

It´s a bit hard to me talking about our situation, that´s why I hardly post anything in the threads about it. I can´t understand why people want to risk their lives thinking that what is happening to the whole world won´t happen to them. Is it too difficult to wear a mask? It´s more difficult to be plugged to a life-support system. The public transport measures were applied very quickly in Barcelona, but now they are also relaxing about this. There is no way you can have a person two meters away from you in a full bus. People should get real, we went through other pandemics in the past: we´re all in the same boat, and must row in the same direction. Take care you all!

Aren't you Moon in Scorpio, too -- Sun in Pisces/Gemini Rising/Moon in Scorpio?

So you're more Bobby's Twin Brother than Pam's Twin Sister!

View attachment 23355

No idea about the Moon in Scorpio, I was born on 3/20/66. Isn´t 66 the number of the Devil, or something?

I am kind of obsessed with the twins / deadringers thingie, I love "Vertigo", Kim Novak on "Falcon Crest", and the Samantha Ross plot too!

Oh, so you've got a Moon in Pisces, not Scorpio. And you're on the cusp with Aries.

Do you feel any profound connection to, say, Paul Julia?

Thanks a lot, I didn´t know... Well, @Karin Schill and I share the same birthday. I also feel some kind of connection with Elizabeth Taylor, who was born on February 27, and died on March 23. I know no Paul Julia, is it a celebrity? Unless you mean Raul Julia, the great and late actor.

Ha! I typed "Paul"? I'd go back and fix it, but it's funnier the way it is... But, yes, Raul.

I'm not sure where I got Moon in Scorpio, except it was based on something you said that I probably mis-read, like my reading 1966 but thinking it was 1965. Or someone saying on the old, pre-crash site, "I'm a Moon in Scorpio" but that must have been somebody else.

Hi @Toni I hope you will enjoy your week in the spotlight! :)

I see you've tagged me twice already. As for Mirande, I am also sorry we missed each other when we were there. I think you must have been there on another day judging from your photos as they had different clothes on the day I met them. I remember Linda was wearing white.

Yes we do share the same birthday and yes Elizabeth Taylor was a Pisces too. Actually I was going to ask you.

1) When and how did you become a fan of Elizabeth Taylor?
2) What are your interests?
3)How long does it take you to make the promos for your fanfics?

They are very creative. :)

Instead of comic-books or educational books, my dad used to give me books about cinema
That's very cool of him.

1. Have you ever bought a Maquina Total CD (or cassette/LP)?
1603137736210.png

2. Who was your Spanish teen idol, was it Miguel Bosé?
1603138038732.png

3. What was the best Spanish language hit ever, in your opinion? Or do a top 10, if you want! (excluding translated versions e.g. ABBA en Espagnol)

4a. Can you play the castanets?
4b. If the answer is "no", then: why not?

Very important questions, so...take your time, darling.
