I love the way they have set up this new relationship for Candace with Oscar, and the way he knocks her off kilter just by being nice to her. I hope it's genuine. Tika Sumpter is really amazing in this role. Ninety-nine percent of the time she is putting on this hard, cold, smug exterior, so that when Candace drops her guard for a moment and looks vulnerable, it's almost breathtaking.

Maybe purple isn't Landon's signature color, but someone on the show sure likes to dress the guys in it. Besides Landon; David, Oscar and Jim have all sported purple shirts recently. Since purple is my favorite color, I approve.

Poor Melissa--just another pawn in Veronica's schemes. I almost feel sorry for her, but something tells me she might be on the train to crazy-town. I love the way Candace handles her.

They work these fleeting quips or lines into the scripts that end up telling us a lot about the characters' back-stories. I guess they're so obsessed with PLOTPLOTPLOT and pushing PLOT forward at such a breakneck pace that the bits of history have to be worked in this way. This is how I figured out that Veronica used to be a drug addict, and that Hannah had a rather sordid past of her own (though nothing like her daughter). Veronica's story (poor girl from Southside Chicago works her way out of drug addiction to become a successful attorney and having a "picture perfect" family) would sound admirable if you didn't know what a nightmare she is, but I can almost understand her need to control everything and everyone when you know her lowest point in the past was when she lost control of herself via drugs.

Benny accidentally ending up with Jeffery's car from the hit and run is a neat little twist.

Yes, there almost cavalier about the way they reveal back story. Suddenly we will get some tidbit like the fact that Candace was molested by one of Hanna's exes.

Veronica's story (poor girl from Southside Chicago works her way out of drug addiction to become a successful attorney and having a "picture perfect" family) would sound admirable if you didn't know what a nightmare she is, but I can almost understand her need to control everything and everyone when you know her lowest point in the past was when she lost control of herself via drugs.

She's an interesting character. She treads the line between manipulative ice queen and psycho.

"Bob and weave" - the prison guard's advice to Wyatt on how to avoid being raped by his cellmate.

This storyline isn't really working for me. Aaron O'Connell is out of his depth more than usual.

It's a chicken-egg dilemma for me. Is O'Connell's questionable, often repetitive material keeping him from showing his acting skills, or are his acting skills so limited that they only write this repetitive stuff for him?

Without giving too much away, I will say he did some of his best work during several episodes in season five. Had they gotten a better grasp of his strengths as an actor? Was it the sort of stuff the writers felt he could handle? Unfortunately, you will have to wait a while to see this, but it's...well, pure HAHN.

But why does he say all of his lines in a voice that is barely above a whisper? Angry, sad, bitter, scared--it's all the same low talking, mumble. And don't get me started on that one facial expression of his--mouth slightly open, forehead scrunched--when Wyatt is feeling anger, sadness, bitterness, fear . . .

Anyways, poor Wyatt has been raped now.

Without giving too much away, I will say he did some of his best work during several episodes in season five. Had they gotten a better grasp of his strengths as an actor? Was it the sort of stuff the writers felt he could handle? Unfortunately, you will have to wait a while to see this, but it's...well, pure HAHN.

Well, it shouldn't be too long before I get to find out.

Ah ha! It looks like Veronica was behind the cellmate switch that led to Wyatt being raped. People need to stop crossing her.

In spite of his aggressive niceness which boarders on creepy sometimes, I'm liking Oscar. I hope he continues to be a nice guy. There's hardly any of them on this show.

Poor Veronica. How many more times is she going to have to have tow truck shop sex with Benny before she can get her hands on that car? It must be rough.

I'm not even going to bother to mention how disappointed I am that we've gone about five episodes now without a single sign of Landon.

Landon's back! Just in time for Jim to appear on the Dianna Whinchil show and officially announce his run for governor. And who should turn up as very special guests in the interview? Celine and her two illegitimate children.


But best of all the previews show that Landon is in the next episode--telling Veronica off!

She seems to be muddling through. I guess by now you have met Benny's business partner/friend Mitch. He's no slouch in the handsome-guy department, and another of those "supporting characters to keep an eye on" with the colorful past that comes out in dribs and drabs.

The secret of who was behind Wyatt's rape, while it may seem like "just another manipulation" of one character by another, will actually have many repercussions in the future stories, and motivate those who love him to do some wild, wacky things. I'd say it's almost on par with the secret of Wyatt's hit-and-run as a generator of drama. So don't write it off as "just another plot twist". Wyatt himself might be less important to the canvas than the stories he generates for everyone around him through his knucklehead moves and self-destructive behavior.

I like the sound of that.
