Is it just me or was 1970's house decor really ugly?
No, it was ugly. I still have nightmares of the burnt orange curtains my mother insisted on. I recall mission brown door trims and really ugly burnt orange cat ornaments. Thank GOD the 80's arrived with its bright colours.
Those curtains looked something like the above.
As for TNT Southfork it wasn't to my taste either. Like many houses today it lacked character and warmth. It didn't look lived in. I recently visited a friends home and the lady of the house had everything white. Just as well the couple don't have kids. The walls, ceiling were white. The furniture was that french provincial (white) finish. The carpet and floor tiles is white. Shoes had to be removed at the front door. The whole time I was there I felt really uncomfortable. Just picture when coffee was served in the formal lounge room. I actually felt like Elizabeth Warden from
Keeping Up Appearances. Scared stiff I'd spill something. I understand it's there home but I couldn't get out of there fast enough. The home felt sterile.
Homes in the 1970's may have been ugly but at least they had character unlike the sterile homes of today.
