Sex-mad large house spiders have been begun their annual mating season weeks early because of the warm, wet summer.

Perfect crop growing conditions has heralded an early harvest – and spawned a mass move out of the countryside’s by some of its scariest looking creatures.

Large house spiders are harmless for all of their huge size, hairy legs and an ability to clock up speeds of 1.18mph in a straight sprint, but that does not stop them turning arachnophobes into shivering wrecks.

With farmers getting to work with their combine harvesters earlier this summer, it has meant the vanguard of three-inch wide large house spiders losing out on some of their usual hunting habitat and so heading into homes for premature orgies of passion.

One of the first witnesses of the seasonal horror show is pub landlady Sam Watt who trapped and filmed this monster after it emerged in her bedroom, scaring the wits out of her pet cocker spaniel Tilli.

Last night we had this crawling up our blinds

Tonight was settling down to watch DEFENDERS and this caught my attention.

I'm not usually that spooked about them, but two, this size, in as many nights is really starting to freak me.

All I keep doing is looking around the room, it's pathetic!

I've become a spider serial killer recently. I mean I am indiscriminate in my killings, and I am so inventive it verges on sadistic. Some of these monsters are so big they are looking me right in the eye as I spray them with hairspray until they fall down the wall. Or I slap them dead with my boot or slipper.
I'm not even ashamed to admit that these are hate crimes.

They eat insects, which is good. But if you're afraid you're on the menu, then it's reasonable to defend yourself.

I don't mind spiders in my house - I have an insect phobia so we share the same enemy. Besides, I think they're amazing creatures.
But I don't approve of spiders who flaunt themselves while there are so many places to hide. Still, I always feel guilty and a bit sad when I've killed one of them.

Ome, I think your house is possessed and the spider invasion is just one of the first symptoms.
Well, good night then:)

These ones bite people and they make me feel victimized.

I have something far more dangerous going through my mind. If I do kill one, I start to think its family and friends will come in and attack me in their 1000s

I can cope with a possessed house, but a spider invasion - hell no way!

You shouldn't kill them, really there's no need for that. They have a right to live as well.

Just (if you can bear it) put a glass over and carry safely outside. Ask it never to come back.

I'm able to remove these from my house and I'm aracnophobic (badly!). Although one as big as the one pictured up there I'd have to ask my brother to do it.

I do this, but I'm now looking at something bigger than a glass - maybe a pan because these are so bloody big

What I try to do if I can bear it (and I scream the whole time but I live alone so I have no choice because I will not kill anything - my cats might though), is get an extension of my arm in the form of a dustpan and brush - scoop it up and then throw EVERYTHING including said dustpan and brush, outside!!!!

Besides, I don't think something this big can be easily killed.

That's bigger than my Chihuahua.

I don't get the mentality that humans have to kill everything that they don't like. I'm absolutely bloody terrified of spiders but I would rather leave my house and go and live with my mammy than kill anything.

My granny used to say that if you kill a spider...it's family will come looking for you.

Och no, leave them alone. They are more frightened than we are. Spraying them with polish is just cruel :( No need.

They do have their uses. We were all put on the earth for a reason (unless you're Donald Trump). Live and let live.

Here endeth the lesson.

I hadn’t noticed any spiders until after reading this thread and now I’ve just seen one lurking in our bath (it’s one of those medium sized chunky spiders)

I don’t mind them just as long as they don’t crawl on me and I have a love hate thing with spiders webs. If I see a web in the house I won’t hesitate to vacuum it up and yet when I look at them properly they fascinate me.

The webs can be so beautiful and intricate, it amazes me how a little thing like a spider can quickly weave something so complex and strong, how do they know how to do it?
