I dunno
Can I just say I dislike it?

I mean, it just feels like seeing people who've read your thread and not replied are dissing you. Which of course isn't true, but this is a function that I want to get rid off for this very reason, thank you.

I would not think of it quite that way. Typically, at any given time there are many, many more people not even registered who are visiting/reading the site than there are members visiting/reading. These lurkers aren't even willing to register, much less post replies...but they seek out the site because they want to see what we're all talking about. That's kind of an ego boost when you think about it. For every five members listed at the bottom, there are likely another hundred non-members per day perusing the thread but not being recorded by the system.

Maybe the members who don't post a reply simply have nothing worthwhile to add to what has already been said. Dare I say it's not necessary to post a reply to every single thread you read, especially threads where you have less of an opinion (or less knowledge of the topic at hand) than others who are posting. I'm not a Dallas devotee, for example, but I like to peek into those forums once in a while just to learn something new from people who have encyclopedic knowledge of that show. It doesn't mean I'm dissing the Dallas fans. Quite the opposite; I'm eavesdropping on their conversations so I can learn a few things and better converse with them on their favorite soap in the future.

Don't scroll to the bottom of the thread page and you never need to know who is watching you...

Maybe we can reach some kind of compromise?

What if it was made possible for the users to switch off this function? :hat:

After all, it is possible to choose "privacy" in our settings. I'm guessing that's why my "name" is not on the list at the bottom! ;)

If someone doesn't want the function, then don't look at it?

I'm confused why this would be difficult for some people

It's just been made possible to hide forums that you have no desire to read or post in!

So why can't the same "rules" apply here?

After all, if some don't want to read or post in certain forums, they can just stop looking at them, right? :wink@

That's not a rule though is it?

There's a difference between removing the unwanted forums and the small 'user info' at the bottom of the page.

After all, if some don't want to read or post in certain forums, they can just stop looking at them, right?
Can you not tell a difference with the main page if you remove the forums you look at and the room it may save you, compared to looking at the bottom of a page that may take up half an inch in size?

Oh and I'm happy to remove this option if it's what the members want.

Let's put it to the vote :D

As long as it's technically possible, I'd say go ahead and make everyone make their own decision about how they would like to use this site!

For instance, if it was entirely up to me, I'd move the weekly polls to the "Lounge"! Personally, I don't need to look at the results all the time! But maybe that's just me!

I mean, it just feels like seeing people who've read your thread and not replied are dissing you.

Alternatively, it feels like the people listed have been interested enough in your thread to read it which is a good thing.

Not sure what "this" refers to!

Talking about the weekly polls you said "Personally, I don't need to look at the results all the time!" I quoted this (just above) and asked you why you have to keep looking at the results.

So, if you understand me now, I'd still like to know why you have to keep looking at the results?

Because the results are right there in my face whenever I go to this site ... at the very top of the front page! And impossible to ignore!

My intention has never been to argue about things like this! My point was simply to say that there are things on the site that may annoy one member, and there are other things that may annoy others. I was trying to have @tommie's back to let him know that he's not alone and he shouldn't feel bad for having the opinion that he has.

I'm not gonna judge who's right and who's wrong (because there is no correct answer)!

If it's possible to add more individual choices to what each of us want to look at or have easy access to on the site, then please make it happen! :wink@

This doesn't sound right, could you give me a screenshot, please?

Who is arguing? I thought we were discussing the forum look. This is the feedback and help forum.

My point was simply to say that there are things on the site that may annoy one member, and there are other things that may annoy others.
Perhaps you should have explained yourself.

Not everyone is going to like everything that is out there, that's a fact of life. Everyone is different and we learn to live with each other and learn to make allowances for each other.

he shouldn't feel bad for having the opinion that he has.
Why is tommie feeling bad? He's giving feedback on a new feature.

I'm not gonna judge who's right and who's wrong (because there is no correct answer)!
So why mention this?

If it's possible to add more individual choices to what each of us want to look at or have easy access to on the site, then please make it happen!
There's always a limit to what we can and can't do.

Come on, @Ome .... You of all people should know how the front page of this site is designed!

I'll close this discussion by repeting what you told tommie to start off with:

"Don't scroll to the bottom of the thread page and you never need to know who is watching you..."

It's just not polite to talk to anyone in that way when they bring forward an "issue" in a Help Forum! It's very condescending!

Of course, I know how the layout is, which is exactly why I asked you to give me a screenshot. Your description of where the poll is situated in completely incorrect.

The poll is part of the sidebar on the right of the forum's main page. It is underneath the forum header, underneath the navbar, underneath the search button, underneath the member's avatar, underneath the members online, underneath the countdown clock.

What you describe is completely wrong and I need to look at what you are looking at so I can resolve this. What part of that don't you understand?

I'll close this discussion
Close this discussion? Do you mean you're not going to back up your claim of the poll sitting at the very top of the front page, which is impossible to ignore?

Not polite? Condescending?

tommie wrote that he doesn't like the new feature, I gave him an alternative way to avoid seeing it, what part of that is impolite and condescending ?

In fairness to Ome Tommie's original post is a little extra. Should Ome go out of his way to disable the feature because Tommie doesn't like it? Ome presented him with a logical and sensible solution to his problem. And Tommie is the king of making threads with just one abstract statement, point or sentence and that's it. Not even a proper discussion. Sometimes multiple threads at the same time with a different sentence in each one which all could be condensed into one logical post or thread.
