Pam was a core character and the show proved it couldn't survive without her. Recasting her with Margret Michaels would have been the only way to keep Pam. It would have made no sense to kill her off. Had they not botched Bobby, then they could have killed her off, however.
Let's say MM is cast, after the accident. She emerges from the bandages, different, slightly off ,but still Pam. Cliff could become enraged again vowing revenge on those damn Ewings who injured his sister.

To lose 4 main characters in one season didn’t help Dallas
Anyone would think they were being punished. I would have loved to be have been a fly on the wall when Producers met Jenilee Harrison and was told her character is not quite dead but stick around so we can kill you again.

I've only watched the first few episodes when Bobby spins in the shower but to hear Victoria's role as Pam has been diminished reeks of payback from those higher up because of her notice of intention to leave.
Honestly, Donna's exit did seem like a natural one and I didn't really mind it.
I'll be curious to see if I agree with Tommie. That said I still won't like the pairing of Ray and Jenna. If anyone should have exit stage left it should have been Priscilla.

You’re absolutely right. It’s as if they were all being punished. Victoria Especially.
And no, Ray and Jenna DON’T work. They’re horrible together. There was at sill so so so much mileage in the Donna character. The fact we’re still talking about 34 years later speaks volumes

Looking back on it now I guess at the time I held out hope the show would be fine even with the losses of Pam and Donna. As a die hard fan I was still optimistic. But things were never the same. Ray with Jenna didn’t work for me and neither did Bobby with anyone after Pam’s accident.

After Bobby returns his chemistry with Pam feels.... off. They have few scenes together. Their passion from season 8 is long gone.
S10 is far worse than the wost moments of S9. Aside from the Wes Parmalee stuff which is credible, compelling and well acted. JR is edging towards buffoon. That Mandy Winger tramp has now become a member of the annoying OBSTACLE CHARACTER CLUB. Joining founding members Lucy Ewing, Clayton Farlow. Along with Lesley the PR gal, frank crutcher, Afton Cooper, Mitch Cooper and Priscilla Presley.

I sometimes think it might have been best to bring back the wicked Katherine Wentworth fulltime after Pam vacates the premises. Somehow Katherine is involved with Pam's disappearance but remains in Dallas and has control of Pam's interest in Wentworth, Tool & Die, with Pam's blessing. Of course we have the minor issue of Katherine still wanted for attempted murder however since Katzman & Co rewrote the book on resurrecting dead characters I'm sure they could have devised a niche way of working around that hurdle.

I think fans would have preferred the return of Katherine any day than what was to come. At least she had history with the Ewing family.
