I noticed the song on the list of suggestions on the right of the screen in YouTube.
I love it when this happens and the song takes you by surprise.
The song is total nonsense but it has one of the tunes that sticks in your head for a very long time.
Yes, totally. At first, the song Gangnam Style came into my head, but as it continued, I grew to really enjoy it and yes, it's one of those tunes that sticks in your mind. I was thinking how great it could have been had it got the recognition over here.

I've done a quick scan of her Voice album and was pleasantly surprised to hear 'The Windmills of Your Mind' another track that I believe you pointed my way.
Yes. Alison's is one of the most beautiful, haunting versions I've heard of this song. Her version has an interesting lyric change at the end which I hadn't heard with other renditions I'm familiar with. It really brought this song back to life for me.

I also find the video with the anime-looking character strangely mesmerising. :embarrassed:

This has been my favorite theme so far. Perhaps a bit too Eurocentric, but almost only songs I've never heard before. It's been fun.

1. Ohne Dich (Schlaf' Ich Heut Nacht Nicht Ein) - Münchener Freiheit --- @Willie Oleson
I loved it!!! I think I might have heard it with English lyrics before? Rings some kind of bell. But the German version was terrific and earns my top spot.
2. Pata Pata - Miriam Makeba --- @Ome
I just adore this song, it always makes me happy.
3. Perdoname – Pablo Alboran con Carminho --- @Richard Channing
This song took another turn than I though it would. It appears to be a sweet mediocre duet, but it has a different sound. I have no idea what they are singing about, but it stood out.
4. Porque Te Vas - Jeanette --- @Ome
I found this very charming. She reminded me of a newbie who suddenly finds herself with a hit song, and is slightly nervous but appears adorable on-screen.
5. Les Moulins Des Mon Coeur - Michel Legrand --- @Angela Channing
Like silk in my ears.
6. Je M’appelle Bagdad - Tina Arena --- @Mel O'Drama
Very interesting combination between european sound and middle east sound.
7. Je Suis Venue Te Dire Que Je M'en Vais - Jo Lemaire + Flouze --- @Willie Oleson
Melodious and sexy.
8. Parijs - Kenny B --- @Angela Channing
Something about this song and video is very serene and charming. It's memorable.
9. Oye - Beyoncé --- @Mel O'Drama
I had no idea B had recorded anything in Spanish - or that she could do it well.
10. Theme From Harry's Game – Clannad --- @Richard Channing
It's magical.

Edit: forgot to add who I think it was that chose the theme. And my guess is
@Willie Oleson

I can highly recommend Beyoncé's EP Irreemplazable for a few more Spanish tracks.

It also has a gorgeous cover.

It was written and composed by the members of Münchener Freiheit, so I'm going to assume theirs is the original version.

If I wasn't me I might have guessed the same. But maybe there's a real clever member who anticipated this.
We've discussed this theme in another thread, but everyone could (and probably has) read that mini-discussion.:D

1. Theme From Harry's Game – Clannad @Richard Channing
This is a longtime favourite of mine for its beautiful, layered vocals. I don’t think of it as being in a particular language (even though it is) as the sounds are just so pretty and evocative it feels very universal.

2. Şıkıdım - Tarkan @Emelee
I discovered Tarkan on a holiday in Turkey many years ago. This was shortly after a re-release of þýmarýk, which seemed to be played everywhere, and some time before it became a bit of a cult in the UK (as I remember, it was featured on Graham Norton). I bought a Tarkan single (Kuzu Kuzu) and a greatest hits album in a music shop in Turkey. But as I don’t speak Turkish and the guy didn’t understand English, I had to resort to making “kiss kiss” sounds as in the song. He knew what I meant immediately (which was good as I could have ended up in a Turkish prison if he’d misunderstood). Şıkıdım was on the album and it became a frequent spin for me as I really enjoyed it.

3. Ti Sento - Matia Bazar @Ome
Oh my goodness. What a vocal. She has an astounding voice.

4. Sadeness Part I - Enigma @Angela Channing
This was familiar to me once I started listening. Like the Clannad track, I think of the languages in it as universal because of the way the vocals are used. It’s lovely.

5. Podría Ser Peor - La Casa Azul @Willie Oleson
I love the energy in this one. It’s a proper floor filler. This sounds very familiar but I couldn’t swear that I’ve heard it before. I’m not sure if the floating naked man and his hard hat are significant, but they didn’t hurt matters at all.

6. Tuyo - Rodrigo Amarante @Ome
Oh I say. Some of the lyrics are a little risqué in the translation, aren’t they? “I am the castle, the tower, the sword that guards the treasure...” “The throat that I want to get wet...”. And it all sounds so innocent.

7. Undantag - Bo Kaspers Orkester @Emelee
This sounds so summery, sunny and carefree. I can feel my worries slipping away as I listen.

8. J'attendrai - Dalida @Richard Channing
Dalida herself is magnetic, and the song captures that mid-seventies zeitgeist of being both tongue-in-cheek and seriously good.

9. Je Suis Venue Te Dire Que Je M'en Vais - Jo Lemaire + Flouze @Willie Oleson
Nostalgic, innovative and timeless all at the same time. It had to be here.

10. Les Moulins Des Mon Coeur - Michel Legrand @Angela Channing
Another old favourite. And it comes across that these are Legrands words and are very meaningful to him.

As for who chose this round... J'accuse @Emelee

This has been my favorite theme so far.
Mine too!

  1. Aguas de Marco – Elis Regina and Tom Jobim @Richard Channing
  2. Et Maintenant - Johnny Hallyday @Emelee (I prefer Gilbert Becaud's version of the song but this one is good too).
  3. La Chanson Des Vieux Amants - Jacques Brel @Emelee
  4. Je Crois Entendre Encore - Alison Moyet @Mel O'Drama
  5. Pata Pata - Miriam Makeba @Ome
  6. Porque Te Vas - Jeanette @Ome
  7. Il Volo - Zucchero @Willie Oleson
  8. J'attendrai - Dalida @Richard Channing
  9. Venus Bar - AV @Willie Oleson
  10. Voyage Voyage – Desireless @Richard Channing
Although the Giobertis are from Italian stock, I don't speak the language so I'll have to guess who chose the theme in French.

Je pense que le thème de cette semaine a été choisi par @Richard Channing

They've recorded an English version in 1986, a year after "Ohne Dich".
And then there was the other English-language smash hit "Play It Cool" (released as Freiheit, without the Munchener).
(both tracks from the Romancing In The Dark album).

All right then.
I had planned to be the last one to vote because of my excellent detective work which led to the most shocking revelation in the history of the nominations thread.
And I didn't want anyone to jump on my bandwagon.
After spending hours and hours studying the nominations, members profiles and various posts in other forums, I was still none the wiser.
The only relevant evidence was that conversation between Ome, Mel and me in the suggestions thread. I suggested French songs and then Mel suggested all non-English languages.
But like I've said in a previous post, most (if not all) of us have read that conversation so Mel wasn't necessarily my #1 culprit.
I never suspected Ome, but then he said he was going to skip the nominations, only to come up with a fab list the day after that - and then I thought, was that an intentional misleading clue?
Or am I overthinking this?

What is it that I'm not seeing? And then suddenly - BAM! There was my answer. @Long Lashes' list!
Now we all know that LL is one of our greatest music lovers, but I remember that she mentioned that she wasn't very familiar with foreign language songs (and I assume those songs never featured heavily in the UK charts, maybe that has something to do with it, but that's another discussion altogether).
However, she must have known that we were going to do this theme at some point, and what better way to avoid it than by simply not being online for a certain period (i.e. holidays).

And that's why I think she suggested the theme and the time when all this should take place. I'm sure Ome was happy to oblige because he can never resist a good scheme:D

I'll get mine up tomorrow, I'm struggling to try to squeeze 12 into 10 - I am close to doing a mash-up!

I wish there were more mash-ups released on albums or streaming sites. I really love a good mash-up, but it seems like you have to hit the clubs to hear them.
