1. Sleeping Beauty
2. The Little Mermaid
3. Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs
4. Beauty & The Beast
5. Cinderella
6. Lady & The Tramp
7. 101 Dalmations
8. The Lion King
9. Aladdin
10. Frozen

You can close the thread now.

It should also be noted that in researching my list I was struck by the fact that after the Disney renaissance from 1989 -1999 that the studio ran out of fairy tales until they decided to write their own. Or re-write one depending on your thinking, with Frozen. The studio really kind of floundered a bit (pun intended) in the 2000s. It was all about trying to appeal more to boys I think with adventure stories, some featuring animals rather than humans and a whole lot less princesses, musical numbers and romance.
I think Frozen proved what people want from Disney, much more than those naughties films that most people don't remember.

I'm surprised The Muppets (2011) and Muppets Most Wanted (2014) didn't make your top 10.

Miss Piggy actually hates both of them. She says that Amy Adams did dirty deed with the producer and made her part bigger than it really was (how could she!).

I didn't even know that was a Disney movie.

Should we have done the animated movies seperately?
I'd say yes. Let's do one for animated films and one for other movies.
Oh and I've heard that Pirates of the Caribbean was actually inspired by the attraction at Disneyland!
Funny story, once Johnny Depp replaced the last dummy in that ride and greeted the tourists when the boats went passed him. Apparently he thought it was fun to see their reactions!:D

I've changed my list but I would have preferred to have done all Disney films and later do a separate Top Ten for Disney live action films and finally one on Disney animations. However, it's not my thread so I will comply with your changes.

This is where the old Disney Film thread would have come in handy, since I ranked the Animated Classics as I watched them in order. Even so, I think my list would look different now anyway. I do remember my top two choices below were the other way round in my earlier list.

  1. Sleeping Beauty
  2. Beauty And The Beast
  3. Fantasia
  4. The Lion King
  5. One Hundred And One Dalmatians
  6. The Little Mermaid
  7. Bambi
  8. Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs
  9. The Rescuers
  10. Fantasia 2000

I think of Snow White as the Disney Animated Classic, so it seems a little wrong that it takes such a lowly position on the list. But the middle act does drag a bit.

Films which had potential to be favourites, such as Cinderella, Aladdin and Mulan - were dragged down by annoying "comedy" sidekicks.

I'm not including any Disney-Pixar films in my list.
Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo is actually a Pixar, so you get to choose another Disney. ;)

I've based my top 10 on favourite story, characters, style, visuals and the movie's re-watchability.

1.

It's not my #1 favourite fairy tale, but I do appreciate Disney's efforts to make this story far more exciting than it is by adding lots of magic, action and adventure.

2.

This is my favourite fairy tale, and eventhough the movie looks very dated and nothing special has been added (story-wise) it's still a gorgeous and mesmerizing time capsule.
Strongest points: the characterization of the dwarfs (and I also like the yodela-heetee music) and the witch as Disney's "Scariest Of Them All".

3.

Of all the fairy tales done by Disney I think this has the most interesting interaction between protagonist and antagonist(s) which makes it very re-watchable.
Also, the colours are absolutely stunning.

4.

The visual style is rougher than the ones from my top 3, but it's spot on for this particular setting. Its slapstick approach keeps the story - essentially one long chase - entertaining.
Plus a political incorrect double whammy: furs and smoking!

5.

Strongest points: villain & goons combination, and the sinister riverboat is one of my favourite Disney movie locations.

and the rest...

6. The Little Mermaid
7. Alice In Wonderland
8. Pinocchio
9. Tangled
10. Aladdin (this could have been my #6, but because of the annoying genie I only like half of the movie)

Your comments about your top five have captured everything that's great about them, but this one in particular really made me chuckle and has made me love the film a little more.
