# 2.02 "The Victim":

Where Lute-Mae and Lane are shopping in the opening scene used to be the pedestrianized Golden Mall in Burbank in the 1980's. It existed between 1967 and 1989 and consisted of San Fernando Boulevard from Tujunga Avenue to Magnolia Boulevard, immediately south of the present Burbank Town Center. You can see the Golden Mall's distinct gazebo in the scene, which gives the whereabouts away. The approximate geocoordinates were 34°10'50.9"N 118°18'39.2"W. The area was redeveloped since.

The interiors of the Truro Sheriff Department were not specifically built for the show, but it was a standing set on stage 24 at The Burbank Studios, which was used for many TV series filmed at WB. It has been long gone. Not sure when exactly they dismantled it, but certainly by the time when stage 24 became the "Friends" stage. The holding cell and the stairway in the hall (which is hardly visible through the blinds in this scene) was also part of this vast interior set.

The establishing shot of Miami International Airport is stock footage from a film library and features the real airport building as it looked at that time. It has been completely rebuilt since.

The log cabin where Lute-Mae and Lane are staying is informally known as the FBI Cabin at the lagoon in the jungle area at The Burbank Studios (Warner Bros.). The nickname comes from its use on the old TV series "The F.B.I.". The cabin is still there. Oftentimes slightly redressed, but always recognizable, it's been in thousands of TV shows and movies.

The gas station (scene with Lane) is, of course, the former gas station in the Doonevan Flats area at The Burbank Studios (Warner Bros.) again. It became most popular as Godsey's store on "The Waltons". Check my post no. 7 for details. It was demolished in the 1990's when the northern part of the studio's jungle was redeveloped.

# 2.03 "The Substitute":

This night scene was filmed on the backlot of The Burbank Studios (Warner Bros.). The stairway on screen capture 2 is between a row of façades (next to a movie theater façade) on New York Street. The approximate location is 34°08'58.6"N 118°20'15.6"W. You can see the other New York Street façades across the street in the shot favoring Titus at the door of his patrol car.

It would be logical if they were mansions from Florida since the show was supposed to take place there.

I'm not so sure about that. If so, this would be stock footage from a film library. Contrary to Lorimar's usual production habits, not a single scene of "Flamingo Road" was filmed anywhere else but in Greater L.A. to my knowledge.

# 2.04 "The Intruder":

The property Michael Tyrone is interested in was filmed in the Ballona Wetlands in Los Angeles. I can't place the exact spot though.

Where Field gets to know Sandy is 2665 Main Street, Santa Monica, CA 90405 — still pretty much like in the old days:

The restaurant where Field later meets with Sandy (and where Claude appears also) was located at 2702 Main Street, Santa Monica, CA 90405. The building is still there (pretty much the same), but it's under different ownership now. Nowadays it's Jameson's Pub. I can't remember its name from back then.

Field's hotel (exteriors only; stock footage) is what used to be Beverly Garland's Howard Johnson Hotel. It's nowadays called The Garland, located at 4222 Vineland Avenue, North Hollywood, CA 91602:

Oh Sandy is living in the same building that Steven in the first season of "Dynasty" ! :D
I'm not so sure about that. If so, this would be stock footage from a film library. Contrary to Lorimar's usual production habits, not a single scene of "Flamingo Road" was filmed anywhere else but in Greater L.A. to my knowledge.
But maybe Lorimar sent a second-unit crew to film some stock footage specifically for the opening sequence ?
Aaron Spelling and the Shapiros did that with Filoli in seasons 1, 3, 5 and 6 of "Dynasty" (not for the OP sequence but for the shots of the mansion used throughout the episodes).

# 2.05 "The Stranger":

Michael Tyrone's home in Truro, FL is one of the most heavily filmed mansions in Greater L.A.: Arden Villa, 1145 Arden Road, Pasadena, CA 91106:

# 2.06 "The Powers That Be":

Golden Groove Recording Studio (exteriors and interiors) is actually the former Evergreen Recording Studio (nowadays LA Sound Gallery) at 4403 West Magnolia Boulevard, Burbank, CA 91505. Evergreen was Lorimar's usual stage for recording the score of each "Flamingo Road" episode as well as for most of its other shows.
The building, by the way, used to be the Magnolia Theater until 1979 when it was converted into a recording studio. The Art Déco / Streamline Moderne structure is nowadays a mere shadow of itself since it lost the beautiful marquee with Art Déco style elements and all the windows / doors on the first floor were walled up.

Although it looks nothing like the Florida State Capitol, the Capitol Building in Tallahassee, FL is portrayed by the very photogenic Pasadena City Hall, CA at 100 Garfield Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91101, which is every location manager's all-purpose tool when it comes to elegant governmental buildings.
FR-2.06-02-PasadenaCityHall.JPG

I still don't know anything about the exteriors of the Eagle Cafe (it's a reused establishing shot from the pilot). But the interiors were filmed in the Blue Room, which used to be the studio commissary at The Burbank Studios back then. Since then, Warner Bros. has remodeled and updated its commissary beyond recognition.

# 2.07 "The Little Foxes":

Shorecrest Clinic, the sanitarium where Eudora is treated (both interiors and exteriors) is actually a private residence at 257 South Grand Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91105. It is historically known as the Tod Ford House. In recent years, it was repainted in pinkish color, which takes away much of its historic appearance. Fortunately, the exteriors have not been changed much otherwise.
