Some people are hard to recognize when they're fully clothed. Most of my former lovers usually are.

New-Reggie is very nice indeed. I mean yes he has the requisite buff and apparently hairless body but just look at his mouth. It's so pretty!!!

In other Riverdale news Alexis has made it to episode 6. It's silly at times but so soapy and so fun. I get all the comparisons, from Knots, to Twin Peaks to Peyton Place. I can see that who ever is running the show clearly loves the soapiness. And they are doing it right, much more so than nuDynasty. I don't get why the nuSoaps seem so obsessed with Mexican or south American crime bosses and drug cartels. I mean there so many ways to spin a soapy story that involve none of that.

I love the Blossom's creepiness. Their gothic house. The ludicrously OTT gothic creepy grandmother in a wheel chair with white hair and a red streak and blind eyes! I mean that could on paper be TOO MUCH. However they made it work on Riverdale. I'm not overly fond of Cheryl and her floral prose filtered threw Mean Girls bitchiness. She sometimes feels excessive but then I guess that's the role she's filling on Riverdale, the resident fabulous bitch. It just feels her lines are too composed and too written. She doesn't speak naturally but then I find that with Fallon on nuDynasty too. It's hard to sell very over the top dialogue and I feel these two actresses just aren't experienced enough to do it convincingly. Sometimes they just sound like they are reciting lines. Deadly, flatly.

Also I have to say I love the dead body in a lake/river mystery that runs through the show. It's very Dynasty season 9, as is the way that all of the cast is entangled in this mystery.
I feel like Snarky would enjoy Riverdale for shits and giggles. It's not epic and compelling drama but it's a fun soapy show with a decent mystery angle and a whole lot of pretty boys abs.

Why did I hear Nicollette Sheridan as Alexis utter that line?

You are absolutely right about Cheryl - she's sometimes bitchy just for the sake of being bitchy (mostly in those first episodes) which makes her look like a cartoon character rather than a real human being just like Fallon on the new Dynasty. The Blossoms are an interesting and twisted family, I totally loved their magnificent house by the graveyard surrounded by all that foggy environment and dark woods. The creepy grandmother was a nice touch. Season 2 is very different although the dark atmosphere and suspense remain. I like Kevin even though he was written as a stereotypical comic relief in the first season, things changed in the second season, he's finally getting more of a personality. Most of the acting is cringeworthy but it's only to be expected in these kinds of shows, especially on The CW. But it's very soapy and entertaining and Archie can remain boring and idiotic as long as he wants to if he keeps getting naked. I still have five more episodes to watch!

And yes, all of my posts must be read in Nicollette Sheridan's voice (with a British accent of course).

Oh, K.J. Apa . . . so irresistible.

Greg Berlanti must know you can't have a good soap without a delicious Adonis of KJ Apa's caliber.

I have a sudden urge when I see the photo above to say in a pervy porn producer voice: "Oh, that's nice. That's very nice".

I was as heartbroken when they said the old Reggie would be replaced, as I was relieved to see his replacement. This show knows how to push my buttons.

What about Cole Sprouse? Does he do it for anybody? He seems to be popular with the teen girls, but he does nothing for me. I don't get the appeal.

I guess you're not a teen girl. :) I must agree. I find him unappealing, too. Even as cartoon characters, Archie is so much hotter.

I'd rather cuddle up to the gay guy. And I don't often fancy the actors casting directors choose to play gay roles.

His brother is beautiful. And both of them are much more appealing blonde.
And yes I am aware how creepy this is of me as I remember The Suite Life of Zack and Cody...

I just finished season one and am a little shocked how it ended really. Of course I expected the resolve of who killed ridiculously pretty Jason Blossom and yes I got that. I didn't however seem to factor in that they would be setting up new stories for the following season. Which of course they did.
It was a fun ride but I'm not sure how subsequent seasons will work now that we have worked our way through the mystery of season one. I'm not really up to speed on the Archie Comics. I am not even sure how or why Josie and The Pussycats are linked in. I thought they were a Hanna Barbera thing? And in the Archie comics are Archie and his little crew a bit like The Scooby gang only without talking animals and ghosts or what? Do they all solve mysteries? Or how faithful to the source material is this tv show?

I really don't have a clue.

I don't know a ton about original Archie comics either. There were a bunch of them at my grandma's house growing up that belonged to my uncles and I just remember them being sort like a high school sit-com--just sort of silly. I get the impression that a big part of it revolved around the triangle between Veronica, Archie and Betty. Josie and the Pussycats were an Archie comics spin-off, which is how they fit into the Riverdale universe. Sabrina the Teenaged Witch is another Archie spinoff and Sabrina was supposedly going to turn up on Riverdale at some point*. Sabrina lives in Greendale, and the town has been mentioned a few times on Riverdale. Netflix is doing a Sabrina reboot, which may affect whether or not she turns up on Riverdale.

There's been a bunch of different versions of Archie comics but I don't think Riverdale is based on any one particular version. There's even been a zombie version.

That's pretty much all I've gleaned from the little bit of googling I did after the show first came out.

*I'm not really sure I want Sabrina to turn up on Riverdale. I don't know that magic and witches will fit in with what's been set up so far, but I guess it depends on how they handle it.

Or how faithful to the source material is this tv show?

I get the impression they took the basic traits of each of the characters and reinterpreted them in a darker more CW-ish style and then created their own story lines.

It was a fun ride but I'm not sure how subsequent seasons will work now that we have worked our way through the mystery of season one.

There's a brand new mystery in season 2.

So season 2 feels a little... Ok, Sure?
I'm not feeling it as much but then I'm only on episode 4. That whole "We are legion" speech Archie made with the topless football team was a bit extra. Also I'm not really understanding the dynamics of Veronica's new beef with her mother? They totally changed who her mother was from season 1 to season 2. Making her into Lady Macbeth is a choice. Especially since their relationship was kinda ok in season 1.

Yes. That entire scene felt like a cheesy 80's porn intro. His acting was even worse than usual. Archie's entire personality and storyline is very exhausting in the second season.

This is absolutely correct. I have no idea why they had to destroy the mother's character and her relationship with Veronica gets terribly icy once her father gets out of prison. Probably just an example of lazy writing, they had to change Hermione's entire personality just to create a new conflict and drama. Well done, writers.

It's a bit sad as Hermione was one of my favourite characters on the show and I loved her season 1 personality before she went all crazy ice queen.
Also did Cheryl's grandma die in the house fire or does she just not exist anymore? :)

I have absolutely no idea. We haven't seen her in a really long time, let's hope they at least hired someone to feed her, bathe her and keep an eye on her during the day. I still haven't seen episodes #2.06-#2.09 but she might reappear again!

Over the holidays I've been addicted to the cast's rendition of classic 80s song "Mad World" from episode 2x08 (which is very different from the original by Tears for Fears and hit cover by Gary Jules). I just have to cut my own video focusing on KJ Apa looking hot when I find some time to waste. :p

Watching episode #2.06 but it's downright boring. The acting is getting worse and worse with each passing minute. The only aspects of the episode I'm actually enjoying are Nick and Cheryl. Too much focus on Jughead (yawn) and that idiotic Southside drama, gangs, etc. They're trying to make it sound too serious and important but I couldn't even care less as a regular viewer. The Sugarman storyline was also exhausting. And I'm not really feeling the new mystery. There's still three more minutes left of the episode and finally a nice little twist with Jughead's teacher. I didn't see that coming, well, at least something surprising. The Lodges seemed a little more tolerable in this episode, especially in their last two scenes. But it's pretty weak overall.

Jughead is a character i hope they do something with more, but not at the expense of Archie, I feel pairing him with Betty is a somewhat safe move, I just don't get "Bughead"
For me I think it would be more dramatic if he was paired with Veronica or even Cheryl! (though I'm kinda hoping Cheryl/Archie happens if Betty/Archie doesn't)

Veronica is another character I'm struggling with, although her entrance in season 1 was interesting, Betty ended up becoming the more interesting of the two, if Jughead and Veronica left I feel they could easily be replaced by Reggie and Cheryl who seem more rounded and multidimensional.

I want more Archie moments, he's a good actor and his character is also good, he's a good kid who often does bad things usually for the people he cares about, so please stop putting Archie in a corner in favour of Jughead.

That said thirteen days til its back :-D I may even save up three episodes so I can binge ;D

I couldn't agree more. The Jughead & Betty pairing is weird and I feel the same about Archie & Veronica. The chemistry between these couples is a little off for me. Perhaps that's because I like to think of Archie & Betty as the principal couple of Riverdale. I love your Jughead & Cheryl suggestion, by the way. I think they're cute together. And I'd love to see her try to wrap him around her little finger.

I think Betty/Archie will happen, but not just yet, I feel they're going to slow burn them, until late season 3 at least, besides not only dud Kevin foreshadow it in the very first episode but aren't Polly/Jason too a foreshadowing of eventual Betty/Archie?
Since appearance wise both sets of couples look similar? Obviously Polly and Betty are sisters but I can't help but think that was a little hint that "Barchie" will happen.

"Varchie" on the other hand seems really off, I can understand the appeal of "Bughead" in a way but I just don't feel the hype, but Varchie won't last long term I don't think, Archie has excellent chemistry with Betty, Valarie and Cheryl, but it falls flat with Veronica.

Yes I think Cheryl/Jughead would be awesome, both are snarky, both are loners, both feel out of sorts with their surroundings, I think they could help each other long term, again, however I think this will happen much later.
