This is a version of the Artist Top 10 and Movies Top 10 that we have going on SoapChat. But instead of songs and movies, we will rank TV Series. I am thinking best comedies of certain decades, best dramas of certain decades, best miniseries of a certain decade, best series featuring actors from another series etc etc etc. Suggestions are very welcomed.

I will begin with:

Sitcoms from the USA that premiered in the 1990s

For a series to count, it must fulfil all 3 criteria:
  • The first episode aired between 01/01/90 and 12/31/99
  • Made in the United States of America
  • Made with the purpose to be funny

Here is a list of American sitcoms of the 90s. Keep in mind that it's Wikipedia, all series listed there did NOT premiere in the 90s!

We will do Animated Series later on, so you may skip them this round if you feel like.

Rank your 10 favorites between 1-10 where 1 is your absolute favorite.
I will tally up the scores when the deadline has passed.

Last day of adding your Top 10 US Sitcoms of the 90s is: July 15th

** You are so right about many of those shows on the list NOT being technically 1990s shows. Before putting a show on your list, you may want to click on the title of the show and check out its premiere date. Also, IMDB would be a good 'second opinion' site. I had to do this for several of my choices, so I included the premiere year.

(I also had to include animation--two shows--to make a list of ten).

1. The Nanny (1993)
2. Cybill (1995)
3. The Powers That Be (1992)
4. South Park (1997)
5. Everybody Loves Raymond (1996)
6. Nurses (1991)
7. Becker (1998)
8. Will and Grace (1998)
9. Daria (1997)
10.
Evening Shade (1990)

1.
2.
3.

4. Will & Grace
This and Golden Girls were the only sitcoms that I watched religiously - I guess that was a stereotypical "gay" thing to do, but there you go.

5. Dharma & Greg
Because I liked Susan Sullivan in it - I guess that's a stereotypical Falcon Crest-fan thing to say, but there you go.

6. Suddenly Susan
There was some kind of revamp going on, but the new set and new group of characters didn't really work for me. Everything before that was great.

7. Friends
For Ross' tan, teeth and leather pants.

8. South Park
Sometimes hilarious, sometimes downright vile.

9. The Nanny
♪ding-dong♫ I'll get iiiiiiiiiit. It's such an iconic one-liner.

10. That 70s Show
If the parents had been the main characters then it would have been my #2.

Since I only got 7 titles in my list, my #1 (listed as #4) only deserves 7 points, hence the blank #1, 2 and 3.

I love the idea of a TV top ten. Thank you @Emelee :)

However my favorite 90s sit com is disqualified because of your rules. You see the first 90's show I think of is "Full House" (1987-1995). It only ran for three years in the 1980s and five years in the 1990s so I think of it as a 90's show but since it didn't premiered in the 90's it's not eligiable. So I guess I will have to save it for the american sitcoms of the 1980s round. ;)

So I guess this would be my list:

1. Friends (1994-2004)
2. Step by Step (1991-1998)
3. The Nanny (1993-1999)
4. Clarissa explains it all (1991-1994)
5. Sabrina - The Teenage Witch (1996-2003)
6. Spin City (1996-2002)
7. Cosby (1996-2000)

Well it's not that I didn't want to ask Ome myself, but I assumed it had to be discussed at headquarters first. These prefixes are very expensive so maybe they'd need to withdraw some funds from the Oleson Account:lol:

Had to draw the line somewhere. Full House at least had 3 years in the 80s. Seinfeld on the other hand only had 6 months in the 80s. But alas, it was penned, created & premiered in the wrong decade. ;)

About 2005
There were very few new shows in the 90s that I really enjoyed. I mostly watched 90s tv thinking what a huge gap has been left by the 80s. But anyway here’s the five that I could pick, and I’m stretching it to get to five

1. Friends
2. Will & Grace
3. The Nanny
4. Dharma & Greg
5. Step by Step

A brief mention to Home Improvement and Family Guy because VP guest starred on it ;-)

We'll jump right into the next genre, and I have decided it will be one that I mainly watch during summers.

British Detective Series

Detective fiction is a subgenre of crime fiction and mystery fiction in which an investigator or a detective—either professional, amateur or retired—investigates a crime, often murder.

For a series to count, it must fulfil all 3 criteria:
  • Focuses on the work by detectives/inspectors to solve crimes, often murder
  • Made in the United Kingdom
  • Does not matter which year it came out or if it's still in production or cancelled.
Here is a list of British Detective Series

Rank your 10 favorites between 1-10 where 1 is your absolute favorite.
I will tally up the scores when the deadline has passed.

Last day of adding your Top 10 is: July 24th
