Gotta love a good TV Soap theme.... :)

Which 3 are your favourite and why...? o_O

My choice would be :-

"KNOTS LANDING" Seasons 1 & 2 (Love the brass, sax and jazziness of it all)

"SONS & DAUGHTERS" (The cost-cutting, camp sepia)

"EMMERDALE" (Hauntingly sad with a splash of optimism at the end)

Based on the theme and not the soap opera itself:

1. Sons and Daughters - Got to agree with your selection Kevmac, this is a great and memorable song which fit with the series very well.

2. Prisoner Cell Block H - Never seen a single episode but it's theme was a great song in it's own right, lovely melancholy

3. Crossroads Sad Theme - Used in Crossroads whenever there was a sad event and was a simple and beautiful variation on the regular theme. When I was young, I used to look forward to sad events so they would play this theme.

Early-1980s The Edge of Night: disco-y, yet ominous and engaging--definitely evokes the crime/mystery theme of the series....

The 1980s/1990s theme tune from Another World: romantic, sweeping, and trend-setting for its time, with the use of CGI imaging....

(the theme stayed the same, even as the images of cast members changed often)

And I care not one whit what the rest of you say...I loved the short-lived flute theme of season eight Knots Landing:

(the sound quality on this clip does not do it justice)

1. Brookside - because it's the story of my youth

2. Prisoner Cell Block H - because it's the first show I stayed up late to watch and it was always an emotional ride

3. Dallas - because I was in love with Katherine Wentworth

My most favorite would be Dallas since it's the first theme I ever learnt to recognize. :spinning:

Other early shows were Falcon Crest and Emmerdale Farm.

But I also love Beverly Hills as it sums up all of my teenage years and Dynasty's theme is really pretty too. And yeah I like Knots Landing too...

and the comedy shows with their catchy tunes and cute lyrics like Growing Pains and Full House...

Sorry I know that's way too many themes but I love TV themes, when I was a teenager I made a tape with 40 different themes and then had friends and family guess which music belonged to which show. There was only one theme that everybody managed to identify properly.

The Brit Cops take this one hands down for me:

The Gentle Touch

I love all the variants of this, but the fast version used from Series Two onwards is just soooooo good.

Knots Landing [Season Four version]
This one has it all. The opening hook going into sweeping strings. Then that wonderful key change just after 20 seconds. And those deliciously raspy, brassy horns that play under the melody during Michele Lee's credit. There's even a sparkly xylophone just as Peter Dunne's credit comes on.

Howards' Way
I especially love the energetic sequence used for the end credits which begins at 1:48 in the video.

Falcon Crest
Those frenetic strings pull me along every time. I can't specify a favourite season variant as I've never seen the show, but most versions sound great to my ears.

Special mention to:

The Colbys
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bECPTQJU-GU
So indulgent and excessive. I suspect even John Williams may have thought so. Whenever I hear it I remember my family chortling at the pomposity every Wednesday evening. No doubt it seemed even more hilarious when contrasted with Coronation Street from which we'd just switched over. But it was perfectly fitting and very catchy indeed.

Central Park West

Very sexy. Very Nineties. And a little bit Erotica.

FALCON CREST, THE COLBYS, DALLAS

(DYNASTYs' theme could have been great, but, much like the show itself, it just kept getting worse and worse until -- as one poster observed -- it sounded like the screech of a skinned cat).

The first three seasons of FALCON CREST are great. Then a Lorimar exec fired the showrunner who'd made it a hit. Season 4 was okayish until a CBS exec demanded their nazi treasure plot, the year's main story, be dumpy 10 episodes before the end of the season.

The series never recovered. But, again, S1 thru S3 was pretty darned good.

"Number 96"
I've just noticed this tune is available to download on iTunes and Amazon. I've bought it, naturally.

I wonder if it's only appeared there recently. When I was watching the DVDs I couldn't find it for love nor money and ended up having to do an audio rip from the DVDs.

yes i failed to notice that word SOAP
So there wasn't a Banana Splits episode where Fleegle stopped Drooper's wedding because the scheming bride had been carrying on with Bingo? :(
