Okay so as I'm rewatching the show this question popped into my head. We all know that Abby is a fascinating character and that she sometimes have certain motifs for doing things. Like for instance did she marry Gary for his money or did she truly love him?

Over all she was married three times and I think engaged once. But which one of her husbands did she love the most?

Or was Abby's true love her children Olivia & Brian or someone else?

The poll is multiple choice but feel free to debate your choice/s. :)

The story told us it was Charles.

Many fans hate him because he looks like a De Vilbis, so they will simply deny it.

But many fans also hate Diana, and Abby gave her her kidney. I'm just saying.

Charles and Gary (as Abby really loved them, especially Charles when Abby was a young woman), then Jeff before he tried to take the kids off her. Her relationship with Greg was about lust and politics only. Abby loves business more than any man, which she made clear to Greg, who has become an arch pragmatist to the point of cynicism. Abby married Gary for his inheritance mostly, but not solely. Abby also saw potential in Gary, and felt that she was the best person to get it out of him as she felt Val was holding Gary back. Regarding Abby's parenting, she's a much better mother to Brian than she is to Olivia. Abby is controlling towards Olivia, and seemingly dreads Olivia showing weaknesses or a lack of discipline. Olivia herself often seems closer to Val and Karen than she is to her own mother, which only irritates Abby more. In Abby's mind, Val is nice but boring and unambitious; and Karen is an irritating self-righteous preacher of morals and thus the antithesis of a successful business outlook. When Olivia starts going off the rails or doing things that her mother disapproves of, Abby is harsh and sometimes brutally harsh.

I've reached season nine in my rewatch right now so I voted Charles and also her kids. Abby does love her kids and out of the men she dated or married it seems like she really loved Charles. I've never seen her getting this upset over a man before.

I do think she loved Gary too and I think a part of her must have loved Jeff to marry him and have his kids. But Charles was the one who broke her heart when she was young and it seems like she loved him the most of the men she was involved with.

I dunno
Abby, duh.

With that said, I thought she was best partnered with Greg as it seems like their life philosophy align the most out of those choices.

I prefered her with Gary. They really sizzled together. :)
Yet Gary does belong with Valene so...

If Abby truly loved Gary would she have pushed to marry him before he inherited Jock's money so she could have a claim on it if they divorced? Would she have embezzled his cash and had an affair with Greg when the ink on her marriage certificate was barely dry. I sometimes wonder whether she really loved Gary or if she just loved him for the sex and his money.

Abby loved business and money more than any man.

The show told us her true love was Charles so.....okay, whatever you say, show, but they could have cast a cigar store Indian instead and that would have been more believable. I read that Mr. York made snide comments about his time in the show. Well, imho, Ms. Mills acted him off the screen and he couldn't hold a candle to the likes of Devane, Lee, Van Ark and Shackleford.:head:

I do believe Abby loved Sid, Gary and her children, but I think she loved power the most. That was Abby's true love.

Abby would have proved that she loved Gary if she had married him while they were working on KLM and he had not inherited a cent from Jock Ewing. And if she loved Olivia, why did she let her drug-addicted daughter penniless when she left to Japan? Whaddabeech. She indeed loved power the most.

Actually, it could be argued she was using a certain amount of "tough love" with Olivia
I can't remember the exact reason she took away all her credit cards, though. Also, she Olivia was off drugs at the time, and she did ask Karen to look after her.

Of course, since Karen did such a great job raising Diana... :re::re::re::re::re::re::re::re::re::re::re:

She didn't expect Karen to look after her in the traditional sense (that is, do her laundry and give her an allowance). It was more of a "be there if Olivia needs you" or "make sure she doesn't get herself into a mess like she did with Harold". Olivia regarded her Aunt Karen as someone she did not want to disappoint, and as much as Abby despised Karen, she knew Karen loved Olivia and would be there for her.

Abby's decision to cut up Olivia's credit cards was actually a logical move once Olivia made it clear she did not want Abby to have a say in how she lived her life. If Olivia truly wanted to cut the apron strings, then she had to earn her own money, not spend mommy's. In that final season we saw that Olivia had the skills to earn money via investments (and the skills to keep her money secret from her loser husband, at least until right before he left her), so Abby recognized her daughter could (and should) make it on her own.

Valene.

The whole thing with Gary... it was all a ruse. In her heart, Abby believed she could change that serial killing skank.

Ok, fair point. Let's look at this objectively. Were Karen and Abby bad mothers? Were they harder on their daughters than their sons? Maybe they were more similar than they would ever care to admit.
I think they could be overbearing, but I think they did love their children. I give them some leeway, especially Karen, because being a parent is obviously a hard job. They were also soap characters who on top of raising kids, had to deal with kidnappings, seductions, intrigue, living next door to Valene. etc, etc:lollin:
