    1983-84: the best season

I’m finishing up a rewatch of this season. IMHO, it’s the strongest season of the series. Why? It looks beautiful, for one thing (and we‘ve discussed Bradford May’s photography in various threads). More importantly, pretty much all the stories works, the season is well paced, and everything...

    “Dynasty Goes To The Movies”

Season 10 could have been a revamp - an anthology format where the cast does hour-long remakes of classic silver screen stories. For example, “The Wizard of Oz”would have featured Krystina as Dorothy, Rio as Toto, Alexis as the Wicked Witch of the West, Krystle as Glinda, Blake as the Wizard, etc.

They missed the boat with a Pam/Bobby/Katherine triangle

Watching 83-84. I think they could have gone in a much more interesting direction with Bobby/Katherine than Bobby/Jenna. Morgan Brittany is a much livelier performer, and her two-faced nature is far more compelling than Jenna’s dull victimhood.

The Oil Barons Ball is not that glamorous

I’m watching the Oil Barons’ Ball episode from 83-84 and it’s held in one of those hotel function rooms, replete with folding wall to divide it from the other function rooms. The champagne oil fountain is a nice touch but other than that, it’s crowded and looks like a mid-budget wedding reception.

    Dear Sue Ellen

If you‘re so concerned about John Ross being emotionally scarred by the Southfork fire and his parents’ toxic relationship, then maybe you should stop instigating arguments with and verbally attacking JR in John Ross’ presence. You do this all the time. Love, Everyone

    Who was the worst father?

Most of our Dallas dads aren’t exactly father-of-the-year material. Let’s discuss. Our nominees are:. Jock. His sins include: Being primarily responsible for raising that sociopath J.R. Withholding love for Gary because he was “sensitive”. Blatantly favoring Bobby J.R. His sins include...

    Who was the worst mother?

Most of our Dallas moms aren’t exactly mother-of-the-year material. Let’s discuss. Our nominees are:. MIss Ellie. Her sins include: Blatantly favoring the fair-haired Gary and letting Jock raise JR. Her weird obsession with keeping her adult sons on the ranch and referring to their moving out...

Pam is a nitwit to blame Bobby and the Ewings for her mother’s death

Rewatching 82-83 (which will always be season 5 to me). Bobby never should have stood there and accepted blame for Rebecca’s death. Why? Rebecca chose to involve herself in the Barnes/Ewing feud. She’s been gung-ho all season to punish the Ewings, and she’s obnoxious. Don’t go into battle if...

Jordan Lee: the biggest sourpuss in Dallas

I’m rewatching 82-83 right now, and boy, Jordan is a crankly old sourpuss. Every time you see him, he has this sour look on his face and he’s complaining about something and he looks like he has indigestion or constipation. What an unpleasant character. I guess ”the cartel” is important enough...

Lucille never should have slept with Roger

What was she thinking? And did Mitch ever find out?

    The actors in HD

I’ve been rewatching the series on Prime (in the 81-82 season now). It’s pretty interesting to watch the closeups of all the actors. Victoria Principal, not surprisingly, looks great in her closeups (though she has heavier makeup than in the earlier episodes). Ted Shackelford has a little scar...

    Sue Ellen’s story arc

I‘ve been rewatching the 80-81 season and I just saw the episode where paralyzed Dusty tells Sue Ellen that he doesn’t want her back, and she tearfully leaves him. Linda Gray really makes me feel for Sue Ellen at this point. She’s a much more sympathetic character than she was just a year...

    Ellby Carrington

I think it’s nice that Jeff and Fallon named their son after Sue Ellen’s psychiatrist on Dallas. I think Ellby was born right after the whole Who Shot JR phenomenon.

    Kirby: Unsexiest woman on Dynasty?

I don’t get this little mouse of a woman at all. The awful clothes, the prim schoolmarm attitude, the lack of self confidence. What were they thinking when they came up with this character? What in the world did Jeff see in her? I think she’s worse than Helmut, because she lasted so long on the...

    Emily Fallmont sucks

Seriously - she’s letting Blake lose his money and his reputation so she can hide her tawdry little affair and save her marriage to unsexy Oscar Goldman? What a selfish b. If I had been Blake, I never would have been that self sacrificing. I would have exposed her so fast her head would have spun.

    Jack Coleman as Steven

Watching on Pluto TV, which is running the show 24 x 7. I never realized before how unpleasant Coleman is as Steven. He’s always overplaying his anger.

Pam’s reasoning for selling Christopher’s shares to Wendell

It stinks. She tells JR that Wendell’s offer is better due to the Weststar stock. That kid is already rich due with owning 30% of Ewing Oil and will inherit his mother’s share of Wentworth. How much goddamned money does he need? And is the Weststar stock worth selling out the Ewing family? Pam...

Miss Ellie Acted Very Callous Towards Jock After His Vasectomy

Was it because she wanted more kids in order to get her “success rate” up?

There was no need for the Jason retcon

In the miniseries, it was established that Jock and Digger were business partners. They discovered oil, and Jock registered the claim in his name only, in order to prevent Digger from gambling away his half of the business. Digger misunderstood Jock’s intentions and went after him with a gun...
