This is shockingly sad news! I've watched four of Julian McMahon's tv series: Profiler, Charmed, Nip Tuck, and FBI: Most Wanted, but I first met him back then (over 30 years ago) when he was romancing his first wife, Dannii Minogue, in her music video for "This Is It."

This is a shocker.

While I've seen some of his 21st Century projects, to me he'll always be clothes-averse Ben Lucini:

And as I mentioned elsewhere, I'll remember him as Another World's Ian Rain, a similarly clothes-averse gardener on the Cory estate with a boatload of secrets. His character was introduced by McMahon slithering out of the Cory pool in a tiny, black Speedo to greet a shocked Paulina Cory, who was.....intrigued, to say the least. He was one of those actors I first saw on a soap and then followed along as he went from one success to another.

Yes - it's nice when that happens. I haven't really followed his career (I think the Marvel projects Fantastic Four and Runaways are the extent of it), but it does give a kind of warm feeling to see him and other former soap actors getting lead roles in series and films (another who springs to mind is Julian's former FF nemesis Ioan Gruffudd).

Incidentally, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thread I recently wondered if Julian McMahon had been considered to reprise his Doctor Doom role for the MCU. Even with the stunt casting of Robert Downey Jr., I still had a quiet hope that Julian's Doom might show up somewhere in the metaverse as a nod to the 2005 film.
