I watched Alien: Romulus over the weekend and I can't figure out where all the facehuggers came from.
If I understood it correctly, the premise was that The Company had recovered the original Alien that Ripley shot out of the airlock at the end of the first film. Then, being impervious to the effects of exposure to vacuum, it had caused havoc on the station.
That much I get. But it was only a drone. The eggs are laid by queens. So where did the facehuggers come from?

There was a lot about Alien: Romulus that didn't make sense. I don't have the answer to your question but it's worth noting that Ridley Scott was not a fan of the xenomorph queen. It's very much seen as a James Cameron creation and is not referenced in any other Alien movie. But you're right, something had to lay those eggs so it doesn't add up. One of the many plot holes it the movie. It's a shame, it had so much potential, and there is a lot to love about it, but I end up feeling a bit disappointed. Maybe my expectations were too high going into it.

ROMULUS is one of those movies where I had to read the Wikipedia summary afterwards, because I had no idea what the hell I just watched. Best summarized as, No thoughts just vibes.

The Xenomorph from the first film didn't die but was retrieved and experimented on by scientists to reverse-engineer the facehuggers.

If they said that I missed it. Classic technobabble but better than nothing.

It's all laid out in the official prequel comic.
