But that's only based on the presumption that our perceptions are limited. And if our perceptions are limited then how do we know they are limited?

I've just started watching the complete boxset! Exciting times!
Regarding our perception, consider this: when we look at the night sky we see beautiful stars. However, many of those stars no longer exist. The light from these now dead stars has finally reached the earth. We are in a sense looking into the past. Our eyes tell us the stars are "there," but they're actually not. So we know our perception is limited.
However, your comment about how do we know if our perception is limited is still fascinating because there are so many things we don't know about it. We are limited in ways we have never even considered. We are in Plato's cave.
I don't know if you've seen the documentary The Social Dilemma, but it shows how social media manipulates us without our awareness. Disturbing.

I don’t know if the aliens are here yet or not but considering how 2020 is going so far I wouldn’t be surprised really. If you asked me this a year ago I’d probably say that I would run from them at first glance. But now I’d probably ask them if I can go with them

I think our eyes tell us that the star-light is there. After all, we're intelligent enough to understand that it's not actually the star itself.
But yes, we do call it "star".
The light from these now dead stars has finally reached the earth
You can't expect the human eyes to look into the far, far galaxy. That has nothing to do with perception that's just a physical and perfectly normal "limitation".
It's the kind of science that's already been discovered and explained.

Saying that the aliens are already here because we can't see them, well let's say it's not the strongest argument I've heard so far.

My point is that people see the light and assume they're stars. The reality is they are the light from long dead stars. However, we may register that we are seeing actual stars.
Of course it's not a strong argument that if we have no perception of something that it's there. Everything in life can't be boiled down to a strong argument, but I think it's important not to be hidebound by only one way of viewing the world.
There's a story about the lovely people in a little Irish town that will more clearly convey my point(or obfuscate the hell out of it:) ). They have a saying about leprechauns: "We don't believe in them, but we know they're there."
If the Irish can't make sense out of life, nobody can:)

That's a bit like saying that the sun isn't shining during night time. Of course it's shining but it's shining somewhere else.
As for the stars and the light, like I said it's already been discovered how it works so this is no longer a mystery to us.
But "the aliens being among us but we can't percieve them as being the aliens", that's a completely different situation.
Does it mean they're invisible or disguised as people or animals?
Our lack of perception can only be proven once we've figured out that it was a misinterpretation (as with the stars) or lack of perception.
And who knows, maybe one day we'll discover that the aliens had been here all along. But right now it's nothing but a "maybe" or a "possibility" and people have the choice to believe whatever they want. But it takes more than that to convince me that the aliens are in fact already here.

It's not like religion because the point of believing is that you believe it without being able to prove it. In fact, if we could prove (any of the) religion(s) then we wouldn't have to believe it anymore.
And that's why it's more interesting to keep the Gods and Blake & Alexis' history vague and mysterious.

Well, @Willie Oleson, that's very interesting.
As Linda Evan's wisely said regarding some of Joan Collins' stories, "We're all entitled to our own perception of reality."
Joan Collins shares her beautiful face with a host of demorex mites. Joan and they, of course, have very different perceptions of reality. I don't know how much thought Joan has given to these creatures frolicking in and out of her pores, but I'm reasonably sure they are oblivious to her. I wouldn't be surprised if we share reality in a similar manner with other life forms. Which is more akin to the glamorous star and which is analogous to the microscopic mites, we may be better off not learning.:)

If aliens supposedly haven't landed on earth yet, then who were those metal people who did the Cadbury's 'Smash' adverts years ago when they were laughing at humans peeling potatoes ?

Yeah, thought that might make you take notice. They also had a flying saucer in the background and the fact that they were actually on TV confirms it for me.

As an aside, I actually prefer chips anyway.

So the monoliths are still appearing. Are we any closer to knowing who made them and for what purpose?
There are some theories out there but I’m really not sure what is true and what’s not so I won’t speculate. My favorite theory that I’ve heard though, and clearly the most entertaining, actually gets back to the title of this thread and suggests that it’s the sign of the aliens coming for us very soon. Personally I was hoping they’d wait til after the holidays as I haven’t really started my Christmas shopping yet.

With A.I. making big progress it's possible that we are creating aliens. (we'll complain about it and talk about damage control after the situation has got out of hand, but this message will be deleted by the American military so that no one can claim "I told you so!").

Come to think of it, the aliens may have infiltrated the American military in a devious plot to create a lifeform for the aliens that already exist. We believe A.I. is our creation, IT'S NOT!!! We're being duped! And duplicated!

I feel like a handsome scientist, the not-old-enough-to-be-an-expert-in-anything-Pierce-Brosnan-type, who tries to warn humanity for the upcoming disaster movie but everybody thinks I'm the party pooper who's standing in the way of profit & progress.
