CORONATION STREET... 26th October 1970...

Lucille Hewitt is arrested for vandalising a police car!

A touch of deja vu this week... and she was roughly around the same age group as Amy too, at the time.

I’ve seen a lot of negative comments lately about the bullying storyline with Mason, Dillon and Liam. It is hard going but I think they’re doing a great job.

I’m also very hooked on to what is happening with Lauren. Who is blackmailing her and do they have her working as sex worker?

A great strong woman on Corrie - From BBC archives

Tissues at the ready for the story of how Pat Phoenix (Corrie's Elsie Tanner) and Tony Booth (Till Death Us Do Part's Mike Rawlins) found love later in life in this quite lovely and heartwarming recounting. Clip taken from Russell Harty, originally broadcast on BBC Two, Thursday 13 January 1983.

1983 & 2023...

Ken said he wanted to kill Mike, following his affair with Deirdre...

40 years on... Daniel is proving he's his father's son by wanting to do the same thing to Ryan, following his affair with Daisy...

Revenge is definitely genetic!

On boxing day, Corrie bosses are serving up a “two hander” episode featuring Alison King and Chris Gascoyne (definitely two of the finest actors on the current Corrie roster)

It will run for 30 minutes and culminate in the character of Peter Barlow leaving the cobbles of Weatherfield for good.

It will be only the third “two hander“ episode in the decades long history of the serial. The first one airing in 2000 with Sarah Lancashire and Kevin Kennedy which was then followed by another “two hander” in 2007, this time with Anne Kirkbride and Kate Ford.

I have to say that I am not really a big fan of the “two hander” format per se.

What are your thoughts?

I’m surprised to read that it’s only the third one in the show’s 63 year history. In saying that, I’ve no recollection of the Tracy / Deirdre one while the Raquel / Curly episode only highlighted how bad an actor Kevin Kennedy is, particularly alongside the excellent Sarah Lancashire. EastEnders has had some classic two handers over the years.

I’m not looking forward to this.

While I have always thought Carla and Peter to be great characters, I’ve never cared for their love story. I’m not a fan of characters with addiction and pairing these two never worked for me.

I’m looking forward to Peter leaving and wouldn’t mind Carla going too. I feel her character has become far too tired and if she is to stay on, they need to bring a new character in to pair her with.

Adam was a lad.
Just love the Platts right now, to me they are the first family of Corrie.

Really?

I thought that Monday night’s episode where they were trying to iron out their differences in the bistro was really poor. :(

By the way, I noticed that Monday’s episode was directed by Reece Dinsdale who played Joe McIntyre in the show. :)

Haha!!

Corrie has plenty of deadwood and I’m not putting Carla and Peter in that category, but more how they haven’t worked for me as a pairing. I think Peter was best paired with Leanne.

Carla needs another dustbin man like Trevor.

For me it’s the opposite.

I’ve always regarded them as soulmates who belong together.

I hated what the writers did, for example, when they had Peter cheat on Carla with Tina McIntyre. Despite the actors’ best efforts I thought it was totally out of character and not really believable.

Having said that, the writers certainly seem to have fallen out of love with the characters of Peter and Carla judging by their lack of big storylines in recent times.

I wonder if that weighed heavily as a factor in actor, Chris Gascoyne’s decision to quit the serial.

Yes and it seems the writers are coming up with random out there stories more often these days.

I’m not liking that they have written Jenny stealing the money off Carla, but what is really disappointing is the whole story of losing the Rovers.

Why would Jenny buy back the pub when she sold it because it was no longer making profit. She was struggling to keep it going and it feels completely ridiculous that she would buy it back.

On top of that, how does she think she will pay Carla back? How long does the Rovers need to return a quarter of a million pounds?

Also, did you notice a scene with Gail in the house and the photo behind her was Kylie with Max - the original actor and not Paddy Beaver.

Some interesting points you make, however I don’t think they are using the full £250,000 to buy the pub, only part of that sum of money.

As for the photo, I didn’t spot that it was with the original actor: however, a couple of weeks ago I did hear Kevin Webster drop a clanger when he referred to on screen girlfriend, Abi as “Sal” - the actress’s name being Sally Carman. :eck:

Ah!!! I remember thinking that I heard him saying Sal, but i wasn’t sure if I had misheard him.

Putting my moans aside, I am enjoying the bullying storyline with the young ones. I think Corrie generally gets the younger cast some fantastic stories. I’m also very curious who is behind Lauren’s torment. Is it related back to Harvey or Damon or could it be something to do with her dad?

I don’t know where the story will go with Daisy once Bethany returns. I was hoping that Ryan leaving might not be permanent.

I know we have a couple of characters returning, but I think the street needs some new blood.

I agree with what you say about the majority of the younger characters (Amy, Asha, Nina, Lauren, Max, Dillon etc) being very well drawn save for a few notable exceptions such as the perfectly dreadful Simon Barlow, although (thankfully) he seems to get very little screen time these days.

In addition to the story arcs you mention, I‘m also really enjoying the gambling addiction storyline with the Bailey family.

The actor playing Tony (the down and out who Ed owes money to) is very credible and believable in the role.

Great news! :)

I was reading today that actor, Alex Bain who plays Simon has quit the series after 15 years on the cobbles.
