I was reading today that actor, Alex Bain who plays Simon has quit the series after 15 years on the cobbles.
Back in the day when I loved Corrie I thought he was a great little actor - then he grew up and was no longer a cutie (that forehead!!)

And loved this scene with the dearly missed Blanche

It’s also just been announced that Lisa George, who plays Beth Tinker, is leaving the show too, after 13 years.
Havent seen it for ages but dont think she will be missed and not much of an actress. her and Kirk were an odd match

Has one of Tyrone Dodds sprogs changed face BTW, saw a trailer a while back and thought who is that?? (The kids werent that great!!)

Wow. I was amazed to learn today that the character of Beth has been in it for 13 years :eck: time flies!!,

I won’t miss the character at all.

She hasn’t been in it for ages and I wonder if the actress quitting the serial is the only way of garnering a storyline for the character.

And yes, one of Tyrone’s offspring - Ruby - has been given a new head. :)

Nor will I.

I loved her in the first few years, but she took a nasty turn after Sinead's death and she's been a bitter, nasty, character ever since. I usually like the nasty characters, but she just didn't cut it for me.

If there is any justice in the world, she would take Craig with her.

I'm also thrilled to see Simon go and I wish he had made this decision 6 months ago because he could have gone with his father.

Oh yes, please can she take the ghastly Craig with her.

Also, please can she take the dreadful Kirk with her as well. Very poor acting and not remotely amusing or entertaining (even though I did like him as Les Battersby’s lodger back in the day).

Yes!!!

I enjoyed Kirk, Fiz, Tyrone, Chesney and even Simon in their early years on the Cobbles. I’m enjoying all of them on ITV3, or is it 2 I can’t remember.

I don’t mind them as recurring characters, but dislike the fact they take up two of the houses on the street. To think we used to have Ivy Tilsley and the Duckworths in their houses back then.

Chances are he might be written off to go live with him (assuming Peter hasn't died, I don't watch the show any more) so they can both be brought back in a few years - possibly with different heads.

I have no doubt this might be what they do. I don’t have much confidence in the writers to give a decent exit for Simon, they’ve struggled to write for this character for many years.

As much as I'm no fan of Ian McLeod, at least Jill Farren Phelps isn't in charge of Corrie.

Her favourites would get the storylines, and she'll write out the oldies.

I am very happy Christmas is over for Corrie. I struggle with the stupidity and OTT acting. The scene in the rovers where everyone took the day off to prepare the pub was awful. Characters wiping down the table with two wiping the bar was ridiculous!

Last night’s episode was fantastic thanks to the return of Damon and Bethany. Loved the chemistry between Sarah and Damon.

Also pleased to see Bethany back and I’m glad it was revealed that the first thing she did was to jump in bed with Daniel.

I love how the dynamics have changed from Ryan/Daisy/Daniel to Daisy/Daniel/Bethany.

Bobby is another character that I’m loving and I believe he has been writing some of his own dialogue. It’s a smart move to pair him with Carla. I’m tired if the constant drama and misery with Carla, so it’s an absolute joy to watch her along side Bobby.

I got hooked on Eastenders last year and decided to give Corrie a go but it couldn't keep my attention. I loved Paul's storyline and Stephen's reign of terror, but one Stephen got killed off I lost interest. I don't know if this is considered to be a good period for the show, but it felt to me like it was lacking strong storylines. I enjoyed many of the characters, but the were all sitting around doing nothing.

One plus I wll say is that they have one of the best 70+ casts I've ever seen. Audrey and Ken in particular I could watch on a loop.

If you are referring to the episode surrounding Christmas, then I agree it’s pretty dull and off over the top. Corrie does humour very well, but it also has a tendency to go beyond funny, bordering stupidity.

From what I have read , there is some great drama coming in with a couple of character returns which will unsettle the cosy feel of the show.

Yes, they are an asset to the show and while not in the same league, I do think the younger cast are great actors and mostly well written stories.

Do a spin off with the above and throw in Rita and Gail, Roy and who ever Maureen Lipman plays and I'd watch it - caught a trailer with Maureen Lipman in it and thought she is wasted on Corrie - brilliant actress - always has been - think I first saw her in Smileys people with Alec Guiness many moons ago!

Have they ever written out Emily BTW???

I’m constantly looking at the differences between the current episodes and the classic episodes which are now in 2005. Here is a shot that is often shown as the title card during the break.

It is the side of the shop in 2005 as you can see, and the one underneath is the same shot but with a larger path and a wall between the path on the road.

Hilda wasn't killed off, she left after having a good old sing-song in the Rovers.
Yes, that’s when the actress left.

I was referring to the fact they hadn’t killed her off - off screen after the actress passed away.

Why would they? It'd been nearly 30 years since she left the street when she died . From what I can remember of watching the show as a kid they only really killed off characters whose actors had died when they were still regular cast members or had been until shortly before their death (like Diedre, Blanche and Betty). It would be incredibly jarring for someone on the street to suddenly remember her or to inform everybody she'd died. It's best just to leave it for us to imagine their characters are still growing old or would obviously be dead based on their age.

Occasionally, there’d be a reference made to a character in the past tense or a throwaway comment about them being dead (this was done with Annie, Ena and Elsie, although Elsie’s death - referenced in a video special - was retconned when Dennis Tanner returned). I’m not sure if this ever happened with Hilda, although I’m sure Sally must’ve made reference to her over the years she was absent, given their closeness before she left.

Why would they
For closure of a classic character, perhaps?. Of course, it doesn’t have to happen, but with some of the characters from Hilda’s days it could be a quick reference, Kevin & Sally lived with Hilda too, so there is still that link.

Last year they killed off Bill Webster who hasn’t been in the show since the late OOs.

Corrie has a rich history and I see no reason why they can’t mention someone from the past if there is a link to the current.

It’s also not long since Rita went to visit Mavis who hasn’t been seen in 20 years.

I don’t watch the show with any regularity these days but it has previously been good with throwing mentions of past characters in here and there. Suzie Birchall got a mention a few years ago while I remember one scene where they were looking at photos in the Rovers and someone (I think Tina) asked who the drag queen in the photo was, only for someone to point out that it was Bet Lynch.
