The original plan was for PI Erin Jones and nanny Miss Meredith Braxton to be lesbians. Jane Wyman seen that the plan did not come to fruition. Would you have wanted the original plan to actually have been put into action, for the sixth season?

There was so much going on in season 6 I don’t think that dimension would have added much plot value except to stir up ratings. That would have eliminated the jealousy dynamic between Meredith and Maggie which was interesting (unless Meredith was bi - that identity might have been too advanced for the mid 80s tv). There was a great scene at Vickie’s and Dan’s engagement party where Maggie saw Meredith and Richard together across the room, she reacted with a devastated look and ran out.

I would have welcomed lesbian characters in Falcon Crest. TV should reflect society and gay people are part of society. As long as it's not done in a sensationalist way it would have been a good approach to take.

Wasn't there a lesbian couple in Dallas, Angelica and Grace.? Or just a hint, other than plutonic. If it was good enough for Dallas it was good enough for Falcon Crest.

No, it was a tabloid rumour identical to the FALCON CREST one, only instead of Jane Wyman, it was supposedly Larry Hagman or Barbara Bel Geddes (depending on the tabloid) who objected. I doubt there's any truth to either story.

This thread title sounds like a great name for a cable sitcom.
A young, struggling actress auditions for one of the lead roles on an L Word type series, she nails the audition and is offered the part. There is a misunderstanding during the audition with the producers and casting agent assuming the actress is a lesbian. The producers hold a press event to promote the new series. A reporter asks about casting straight actors in gay and lesbian roles, the executive producer states that all of these roles on the series have been cast with gay and lesbian actors. Cut to "deer in the headlights" reaction from the actress followed by a stiff smile.

The actress goes home to her apartment and tells her best friend/roommate about what just happened. She's concerned that she could lose the job if she tells the producers she is straight. She's also afraid of the public reaction if she takes the role and is later revealed to be straight. The best friend tells her to keep the role and reassures her: "you're an actress, a very good actress. You'll do well on the show and if this mean you have to play a part in real life, why not? I'm willing to go along with this. It wouldn't be the first time people assumed we were more than just friends. Hey, we could be lesbians!"

Or, it could be about a hip, woke woman whose new, butch, live-in girlfriend is actually a guy, but her friends can't convince her that she's actually in an accidentally straight relationship because her new "girlfriend" claims to be identifying as a guy because "trans-men are men!" and so hijinx ensue.

There are a lot of jokes about the neighbors having seen his wiener at the gym.

I'm envisioning a hybrid of Three's Company and Bosom Buddies. There definitely needs to be a couple similar to the Ropers in this. This reminds me of an episode of Kate & Allie where they pretended to be lesbians in order to reduce their rent.

And the inevitable spin-off She's Got a Dong!
