Crossroads replied on Twitter

Aha. It took me a bit of jumping round the different crossroads, but I've found it!

Sad to see the lovely old signpost is long gone, replaced by an ugly standard one.

you are quite the Miss Marple tho ;) (Joan Hickson is the ONLY Marple tho!!)

Well, I do like a good mystery.

(And how flattering to be mentioned in the same breath as Joan Hickson's Miss Marple).

Another place to visit!! Birmingham and Coventry on the map for next year on a Nolly pilgrimage!

Great stuff.

its Steve Rosenberg the BBCs very talented (and brave these days) BBC Russia Correspondent playing Theme tune

"I play the theme from ITV soap Crossroads by Tony Hatch in the style of the Russian classics".

PS - He has on his You Tube page a wonderful tribute to the Lovely George Aligiah who passed away a few months ago

Wonderful stuff.

I imagine the trick is changing the key so that it's in minor chords to give it that more haunting sound. Whatever he did, it must have taken a fair bit of arranging.

It's shocking that this has been on YouTube for two-and-a-half years but as of this morning had only fifteen "thumbs up" (I just gave it its sixteenth).

This live cover of the Wings theme - performed at The Cavern Club, no less - really got the old juices flowing this morning:

This was fab, just heard it.

It's Rachmaninoff meets Crossroads, via Brief Encounter. Did steam trains ever pass through Kings Oak, I wonder?

He is pretty good isnt he?

a few of the cast - I always think they got rid of Jane Smith far too soon (but believe she was pregnant!)

From Youtube a better copy of Nollys This is your life where the sound and the film are actually in sync with one another

Just love her mum and Amy Turtle is wearing a rather bad wig! Nice to see Terry Thomas (who always scared me as a little girl as he was a baddie in Tom Thumb!)
Love her when Gerry Allan and his trio come on and my Nan kept waiting for her to walk down the aisle with Larry as he accepted her marriage proposal!

From Crossroads motel on Twitter - with thanks

How awful it must have been to receive this news; its like giving Larry Hagman his P45 from Dallas

From Aberdeen Evening Express
(Saturday 28th April 1979).

Brief, but to the point, viewer query about Crossroads.

Which just goes to show that, just like today, TV shows in the so-called "Golden Era" were no stranger to viewer backlash... even over something that is fictional... and these letters are good primary source evidence.

A few of my Nolly pics,

The one centre stage on the bottom is my favourite. Also love the care free one in her sheepskin jacket and 'This is your life' dress. Long live Nolly! She was soooooooooo photogenic, the camera loved her x

an old Noele Gordon interview - being interviewed by Angela Rippon

She reveals her favourite TV show is Hill Street Blues (and news/current affairs)

This has refreshed my interest in Crossroads, and getting through the remainder of my boxset.
Once I finish Season 4 of Sons & Daughters, it'll be back to Xmas 1979 - and a full run through of Rosemary's antics and Meg's final year on the soap.
It was Babs Hunter's insert what did it.

Tidying out wardrobe with back wall piled high of DVDs and couldnt resists a rewatch of this

Bergerac (loved John Nettles back in the day) S8, episode 2 - "My names Sgt Bergerac" featuring Ronald Allen and Sue Lloyd (and a very hammy Tony Robinson with a curly perm!)

Oh - I had no idea they appeared in this.

I have the boxset lined up ready to watch at some point. It'll be my first time for most episodes, so that's exciting.

Oh I loved John Nettles back in the day, went to Jersey as a schoolgirl with my parents and looked round every corner for Mr Nettles - sad to say I didnt find him!!

Ronnie looks frailer in Bergerac. I think it was year before he died :(
