It looks so grey and austere when you see it in the 70s but it looks lovely in your pictures. Totally different from how it appeared onscreen. Everything looks grey on Crossroads when it’s outside filming - must be something to do with the cameras back then - I think Howard’s Way was a bit like that too.

A wee jaunt to Tanworth in Arden - where they filmed some outdoor scenes and Church services (Meg in her fur coat)
It was very Acorn Antiques. I did expect to see Julie Walters at the post box, failing that Miss Tatum going to church. There is 1 train an hour from B'ham Moor Street station to Danzey then roughly a mile walk to this charming little village. (No pavements and you know you are in the countryside with the sound/smell of cows mooing, silage, manure et al, but very courteous drivers!)
Also the burial site of Gabrielle Drakes brother Nick.

a wee jaunt to Coventry

Coventry then and now... Some of my favourite scenes were filmed here at the time of Sandys accident in 1972. As I was in Birmingham I had to jump on a train to Coventry and visit the cathedral as it always stuck in my mind. I also remember my dad talking about the bombing of the cathedral as he was evacuated from Kent to Fazeley during WW2. (Kent evaded bombing but the Germans knocked 7 bells out of Coventry and Birmingham!!)
So much of it is still the same and it was nice to follow in the footsteps of Meg/Noele - they will always remind me of those episodes (and also how ground breaking Crossraods was re Sandy's accident and the the Carers scheme)

These are gorgeous, BF. So glad you managed to visit some key locations and it looks as though you had nice weather for it.

It's many a year since I've been to Coventry, and Tanworth is a pretty little place that looks well worth a visit.

Coventry then 1972 and now....... Continued, some of my favourite scenes. No signs of Noele / Jockey tho when I visited last week.

However it still looks the same 50 + years on which is nice. Its a well worth a visit and I was surprised that the admission to both Coventry and Birmingham Cathedrals were free (You have to pay for Canterbury) If you are nearby, check it out

Chapel of Christ in Gethsemane, Coventry Cathedral; Part 3- I loved this little place and one of my Favourite Meg scenes from Crossroads. It still looks the same and think the black bench may be an original that she sat on. It was a pretty special place and I recall her words to Timothy when she says it the one thing I cant make myself do (re pray) then she walks in here and drops her head. Just wonderful - writing, acting, the lot!

I had no idea that needy Mrs Bonkers Bailley who stalked Dr Butterworth then took her own life in one of the chalets was actually the 1st Gladys Emmanuel on Open All hours

Was totally surprised when this popped into You tube queue and thought I know that face!

Oh, I hadn't twigged to that either, even though I watched the 7 Of 1 Open All Hours episode less than 18 months before I watched her Xrds episodes.

I remember at the time I watched the pilot being surprised that she had an Irish accent:

She's played here by Sheila Brennan, rather than Lynda Barron. And she comes with an Irish accent (at least I think it's Irish. At times it sounds Scottish. It's so patchy and peculiar it almost sounds like a poor attempt at an Irish accent, though it seems Brennan herself is from Dublin).

Noele Gordons final home and how run down it looks

I never quite "Got" the move from beautiful Weir End to this - it looks like a shoe box

Some astute people on FB noted that Miranda Pollard aka Claire Falconbridge appeared on Fridays BBC4 TOTP 2 in a video for Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye "You are everything"

Enjoy!! at 13 mins and 40 into the show
