The TNT revival - I don't think it was as bad as some reviews indicate, but I think characters were too often... out of character.
Cliff was the most notable. He was written poorly, Ken Kerscheval deserved better.
Wasted opportunities were abundant. Katherine could have returned, Michelle Stevens could have returned,
James Beaumont maybe recast, a son/daughter of Jack Ewing, an offspring of Jock and Amanda...
The return lacked creativity

Agree with everything except Jock and Amanda having an offspring. Let's not turn Jock into a Rolling Stone. Lol

Yes whatever did they do to Cliff? He was unrecognisable. Of course original Cliff had many faults but at least he was still humanish.

Too much screen time for all the youngsters trying to appeal to a new younger audience, but it needed to reach the original audience first.

I watched it as a new drama that happened to have 3 of my favourites in it from original Dallas. I quite enjoyed it, but possibly out of excitement and loyalty.

I wouldn’t have wanted the return of Katherine, Michelle or James, I just wanted decent characters and stories with that early Dallas vibe.

Instead they gave us OTT drug plots and all sorts of other weird goings on that they must have thought made it modern.

If we're honest it was never going to work without Larry. Too many fans believed he was Dallas. I just wish that while we did have Larry a new Dallas would've been everything we'd want it to be.

Very sadly it was not.

although.. even in the original they changed him pretty dramatically a few seasons in from serious and competent (if overly revenge-obsessed) to an incompetent buffoon.

I guess the suicide attempt would be an explanation, but I think the different direction started when Rebecca appeared out of nowhere to make him wealthy and spoiled, when he’d been scrappy and self-made previously.

Yes, it's like Cliff couldn't handle the responsibility his mother gave him, especially in his small mind it was a step closer to being like and getting at JR.

Loved early Cliff when he was a lawyer, especially how he was forced into having a part in rescuing Bobby from his kidnappers. Then his work with the OLM.

Enjoyed him running for senator too even though it was a set up, but as soon as he dipped his toe in the oil business it went straight to his head and he became far too big for his cowboy boots.

I think it could have worked with adequate explanation, a criticism that extends to much of the show.

The way I reasoned it with the TNT show is after Cliff discovered that his sister Pam was believed dead it made him unhinged and very bitter against the Ewing's. That's how I reasoned it. It's also possible his hatred was exacerbated by possible brain damage when he tried to commit suicide on the show many years earlier.

Poor old Cliff, he was his own worst enemy. :)

Conundrum wasn't great, but it was at least more creative than most of Seasons 13-14 (and 11-12 for that matter)
and more watchable.

What if Miss Ellie deeded Southfork to Gary, Ray and Jenna are invited to move there, Bobby leaves to join Pam and Gary kicks out JR?

Having lost Ewing Oil and all his family and friends, JR is truly alone.

JR, alone in a different house, hears a knock at the door. When he opens it, Steve Forrest says to him," Let's get Ewing Oil back... and Southfork too!"

So Jock returns to help JR get Ewing Oil back!

I'd certainly watch that buddy. :)
