You make some valid points with this argument but I tend to believe that someone as reasonable as Clayton would’ve understood this if Miss Ellie did indeed die first. He might’ve felt obligated to work something out with the boys where they would have control of the ranch again. Perhaps begrudgingly where J.R. was concerned but I can’t see someone like Clayton keeping everything for himself and pushing Miss Ellie’s sons aside, especially Bobby whom he had a lot of respect for.
Nobody is that much of a saint. JR said something about Dusty sitting in his chair. Clayton said it would be a fine replacement. Clayton made the decision to move to Southfork & give up his ranch. He was in no way entitled to anything at Southfork

If you don't like Clayton, fine. But don't misquote him. Clayton DID NOT say that.

He and JR started arguing and JR said, "if you keep momma the way you have been, that wimp rodeo rider will be sitting in my chair."

Clayton responded, "he's a hell of a lot better man than you'll ever be."

I think that is the accurate conversation.
No objection by Miss Ellie to the way Clayton insulted her son? Wow
I don't like Clayton, at all

JR was right. Clayton was an outsider and an interloper
and JR was right to object to Clayton getting half of Southfork
Bobby should have supported him

Clayton lusted after his son's (at the time) girlfriend,
hid Lady Jessica's past, thus putting people at risk,
had a friendship with Laurel Ellis that was problematic,
cheap punched JR at the wedding,
generally behaved like a hot tempered bully

I wanted Steve Forrest to be Jock, and kick Clayton off Southfork

What exactly made Clayton an Outsider? Just because he married into a family? And Clayton didn't really insult JR. JR insulted Dusty and Clayton fired back. What was Miss Ellie to do?

But I agree. Miss Ellie should not have made Clayton part owner.

I honestly didn’t have a problem with it. People get remarried all the time and make their new spouse part owners in things. If JR. and Bobby have a problem with it I do understand but ultimately it was Miss Ellie’s decision to make. It was still her home.

Because he was not a Ewing and had nothing to do with building SF or the family.

Outsider definition

To be fair, Southfork is a major asset and there's history of how it was saved by Jock. We're not talking about a regular home with a yard.

But since he married into the family, he was no longer an outsider. In one of the early episodes, Bobby flat out told JR that Valine had just as much right to be at Southfork than him or anybody else.

Suddenly the Ewings have become a tribe of pure breeds, I don't understand it, really. Ellie gave him the lands as a proof of love and as a way to ask him to forgive her re. the bonsai misunderstanding. Just my 2 cents.

Miss Ellie was not a genetic Ewing

Jock saved Southfork, and grew it in prosperity, a fact that Miss Ellie continued to ignore
Miss Ellie only had SF because Jock saved it.

Giving half of SF was not only disrespectful to Jock,
but also JR, Bobby and even Ray had contributed to its growth, and would then have no claim
if Miss Ellie predeceased Clayton

That was certainly not Jock's intent when he saved SF

Respectfully, Yes, he was an outsider.
Jock saved SF and grew its prosperity
His sons contributed to its growth.
Clayton had nothing to do with growing SF and its prosperity

I understand JR is supposed to be powerful, but how can a banker contact JR about a loan Ray was applying for?

And this isn't the only time that either JR or Bobby was told about a personal matter of someone else.

I presume they had them in their pockets like some of the local law enforcement. And Bobby was not above a little bribery when it suited him either.

Did Jock take away everything from Digger?

The answer may not be clear cut.

The best perspective on this is "Dallas: The Early Years"

If the events of DEY are accurate, Jock did not take from Digger

Are those events accurate?

Or is it Jr's understanding of events, that he explained to the writer?

Or are the events a combination of accounts from various sources that the writer collected?

Could Digger be JR's biological father?
It might explain Jock's attitude toward JR and why Bobby was his favorite
Maybe Training JR to be President of Ewing Oil was some type of
repentance to Digger, if so

When Jock was away in WW2, who ran Ewing Oil? (Digger?)

Something to consider

Something to consider

1. I think "The Early Years" is 100% JR's account of things he got from Jock.

2. No way would Jock had ever raised Digger's son and no way would he'd forgave Miss Ellie.

3. As for running Ewing Oil when Jock was in WW2. Jock had a lot of friends that could have stepped in.

Did Jock ever have title to SF?
In season 11(?) Bobby said that Jock gave SF to Miss Ellie (when she announced that she had given Clayton half of SF

If Jock did have title after saving SF from auction, how could Miss Ellie give it to Garrison?
Did Miss Ellie inherit SF when Jock passed? Inherit half of SF when Jock passed?
Did Ewing Oil own SF?

It's one of those things that depended on the storyline. One minute, Jock was the owner of Southfork, the next, it's implied that Miss Ellie owned it. Despite whoever was the owner, I find it hard to believe that an oilman like Jock AND even JR, wouldn't know about the mineral rights of Southfork during the "Miss Ellie saves the day" episode.

Sometimes I think Cliff is judged too harshly.

I am not saying he had no faults.
Granted this is TV, and the Barnes-Ewing feud had to continue,
but Cliff risked himself to save Bobby, and was not shown any appreciation.
Wouldn't that have been an opportunity for the Ewings to extend themselves,
and at least try to come to some understanding?

Cliff was obsessed with JR and the Ewings,
much to his detriment,
but the Ewings weren't exactly blameless either
