I like how nonjudgemental the whole Becs/Shaquille story is.
I loved how symbolic it was and without any embarrassment of making it clear a new era had begun and the sisters were symbolic of a chapter in the shows history that had ended. It's time to get back to basics! The return of Michelle optimises that change and it's really exciting. Maybe they felt that a character like Ronnie doesn't fit into a world of realism and community.
I thought it was maybe at odds with the new direction the producer has been trying to go with over the last few months, but yes, if something was to symbolise the start of a new era for the show then this would definitely be it. The moment Ronnie dived into that pool, I thought, "Woah, Enders is going to do a Maggie Gioberti!". And that event certainly symbolised the start of something new for Falcon Crest!
Ronnie was probably given the most heightened of storylines over the last decade, as great a character as she was, maybe she would seem a bit ridiculous in a more grounded, everyday EastEnders. If that is indeed what they're trying to go with. Whatever happens, it's sure to be an interesting time for the show.
I was thinking Maggie as well, I actually think the Maggie death scene was more haunting, maybe due to seeing the close up of her struggle and last breaths. Perhaps that was too much for Eastenders at 7.30pm.
This is the first off episode in a while for SOC, so i am not too worried re the direction of the show, if DTC was still in charge I would be very concerned. Corrie has had nothing but off episodes for weeks now. That was a rather strange, scattered episode tonight.
It's also odd how Ronnie and Roxy's deaths have been restricted to one house. Not one mention of them in Phil's house. Sharon making a comment to Michelle about how Phil is just in a bad mood because he's been in hospital since Christmas, not because his two cousins have just died in a horrible accident.
I'm suddenly not so optimistic about this new direction.
