I like how nonjudgemental the whole Becs/Shaquille story is.

The community feel of EastEnders is coming across nicely, something lacking in both Emmerdale and Coronation Street. Soc's influences from the Archers rubbing off in Walford.

Really feel for Dot, sad times. Donna is such a brilliant character now and works so well with Roxy.

Sharon and Stacey shone in tonight's offering. Carmel is getting on my wick a bit. The Mitchell scenes were good as were scenes with Mick and Jack, although these days there are many times I don't understand what Danny Dyer is saying. I think they let him ad lib here and there. Some of the cockney rhyming slang doesn't make sense.

Linda was brilliant. I loved the Dot/Phil scenes and the Mick and Lee scenes were very good. The play scenes worked well.

A very good episode to end 2016. Perhaps this will now finally silence social media who say "nothing ever happens in EastEnders."

Lee was breaking my heart, superb performance from Danny Boy. Sally Rogers was amazing. I miss her so much on our screens. The end scene with Max was a nice twist, self harm. EastEnders goes out on a high for 2016, a shame it won't get high ratings.

A very well constructed episode, I loved the story telling of Cinderella, which was very apt. I agree it was a brave decision to kill off both sisters. The ending was very clever and hit the spot. EastEnders is certainly firing on all cylinders right now.

What a completely epic episode of Enders tonight. Sometimes soaps become like wallpaper, a habit and I lose touch with my appetite for the genre but it was a firm reminder of what soaps can do.

What a brave decision to make, so I bow down to the shows Producer. I was reminded of a Corrie doc I watched a while back when they spoke about killing off Martha Longhurst way back when- "Can we really do that? In the snug at the Rovers?". Imagine the conversation about killing off the sisters on Enders? A deep intake of breath and lots of creative energy.

I loved how symbolic it was and without any embarrassment of making it clear a new era had begun and the sisters were symbolic of a chapter in the shows history that had ended. It's time to get back to basics! The return of Michelle optimises that change and it's really exciting. Maybe they felt that a character like Ronnie doesn't fit into a world of realism and community.

It's been brilliant! I also have to love how the show has been rather tame, subtle and happy. Waiting for this big blast of chaos - Lee Carter's episode was truly amazing and then this.

I thought it was maybe at odds with the new direction the producer has been trying to go with over the last few months, but yes, if something was to symbolise the start of a new era for the show then this would definitely be it. The moment Ronnie dived into that pool, I thought, "Woah, Enders is going to do a Maggie Gioberti!". And that event certainly symbolised the start of something new for Falcon Crest!

Ronnie was probably given the most heightened of storylines over the last decade, as great a character as she was, maybe she would seem a bit ridiculous in a more grounded, everyday EastEnders. If that is indeed what they're trying to go with. Whatever happens, it's sure to be an interesting time for the show.

I was thinking Maggie as well, I actually think the Maggie death scene was more haunting, maybe due to seeing the close up of her struggle and last breaths. Perhaps that was too much for Eastenders at 7.30pm.

I've watched it again, it is quite hard to make out what is happening, but you do see Ronnie struggling. I know the darkly lit setting added to it all, but maybe it was too darkly lit. It seems Ronnie being drowned by her own wedding dress was lost on a lot of people.

The synopsis for tonight's episode - 'As one family receives some shocking news, life on Albert Square changes forever. Elsewhere, Kathy worries as Babe prepares to start serving breakfast at The Vic, creating new competition for the café.'

I think they handled it well tonight. Wasn't over the top, but they showed all the main players being told the news. Felt slightly under played but in reality a tradegy of that scale would be totally catastrophic, and soaps have to contain that and move forward. Liked that Michelle kept referring to Pauline's legendary family dinners.

For blind viewers, there is some kind of feud being contrived between new Michelle and Stacey.

That was a rather strange, scattered episode tonight.

It's also odd how Ronnie and Roxy's deaths have been restricted to one house. Not one mention of them in Phil's house. Sharon making a comment to Michelle about how Phil is just in a bad mood because he's been in hospital since Christmas, not because his two cousins have just died in a horrible accident.

I'm suddenly not so optimistic about this new direction.

This is the first off episode in a while for SOC, so i am not too worried re the direction of the show, if DTC was still in charge I would be very concerned. Corrie has had nothing but off episodes for weeks now.

However I tried to look for the positives in tonight's offering, but I am struggling a bit to be honest. Jack (Scott Maslen) was very good, Mick was doing my head in a bit tonight. The Bec, Louise scenes were a bit cringey and who on earth says "A total toenail." ????

The only other bit I enjoyed was a smug Stacey thinking she had got rid of Michelle.

A better episode on Tuesday. I did enjoy the Johnny and Abi scenes in the kitchen. I had to smile at Mick and Vincent's run, it was a mega marathon.
Not! The scene was well acted and I agree had a natural feel about it.

The end scene with Shirley and Denise was bang on. Excellent scripts and superb performances from Diane and Linda and what a duff duff. So much better when you don't know what is going to happen. Corrie take note, don't tell us everything before it happens.
