I'm on the final third of the season. It's like FALCON CREST is on crack, an early prototype of MELROSE PLACE. Every scene more ludicrous and over the top than the last - but I can't stop watching.

Maggie's storyline attempts to wring an ounce of emotion and heart out of the drama amidst James Bond foolishness and nonsensical, spur-of-the-moment stories (All Emma wants is a baby! Dan has a stick up his ass for absolutely no reason! Melissa is batsh*t crazy!... although I do enjoy Ana-Alicia's performances).

I think I had enough of the Kit story when she broke into Saunders' suite with a bottle loudly labeled "POISON" and injected his cigars. Give me a f*cking break. I have to admit, however, making us think Emma will end up with Kevin only to reveal Melissa has him got a gasp out of me. And it makes 'sense,' considering Melissa's psychosis and loss of Joseph.

Chao-Li gets dizzy one time, so now he's dying. Sure. Why not?! Melissa is a great cabaret singer as she harbors Maggie's stolen baby. Of course! At least Ana-Alicia gets to show off. She deserves an Emmy for making this work.

When Kim Novak takes off in her plane at season's end, I want to see her take a drink --- and then blow up. Just blowup. Then the pilot does the same. Spontaneous human combustion. The plane goes down and crashes into the Falcon Crest mansion just as Angela is reading the letter from Cesar Romero informing her that Richard is her son and was stolen from her at birth by Jacqueline and Douglas.

I'd do it. I swear I'd do it.

It definitely wouldn't be out of place with everything else happening in this season!

The last three episodes of the season are sort of a schizophrenic experience. First you have that Karlotti episode which I swear feels like a straight up sitcom episode (minus the oddly timed Maggie wrap-up of the Jeff Wainright story). Then the show spends the next episode slowly returning to its usual tone before going right into frenetic but, at least, straight drama.

It's all too crazy to really explain, but one can't deny the triple whammy of Emma's possible suicide, Chao Li's fall, Angela finding out Richard is her son, and the San Francisco Bay debacle is a fun cliffhanger. Still, what an oddly underplayed moment by Wyman.

Now the season wrapped, one can finally see the reason for some of the truly bizarre storyline choices. The Karlotti story is actually somewhat saved by the reveal of his multiple wives. Melissa being crazy is explained by her loss of Joseph. But sadly, the execution is quite horrid. Melissa just became crazy and, just as quickly, was healed by her angelic singing. All to justify her stealing a baby. Was it really worth it?

I'm kind of scared to see what Season 7 has in store.

That's when I want the nuclear waste story to kick in, to explain Julia's and Emma's and, retroactively, Maggie's (and possibly Melissa's) brain tumors. That nuclear waste infiltrating the chardonnay (which is what causes the spontaneous human combustion -- which starts with Kit's exodus).

And, by the way, none of that happens. Only in my imagination.

Instead, Season 7 just brings us an increasingly frenetic silliness (which displeased the audience as well as the actors) and starts to kill the ratings.

It's nuts. Good luck.

Season 6 and 7 are both fun, but they eviscerate the Gioberti family. Chase and Cole were grounding influences, it makes sense Frielich got rid of them, they didn't fit with his fun house of horrors. Overall I would say 7 might be better than 6, Melissa getting FC was awesome, love the mine shaft.

Lauren Hutton was funny, I like the Vietnam guy, Ursula Andress, the 13.

But 6 is indeed a burst of energy. However I loved season 5 and I love Chase so I didn't need to have some heavy handed writing excuse to get rid of him. I think Foxworth did well with the material and Maggie refusing to look at the paternity results was incredibly frustrating, coupled with her emotional cheating with Richard. I understand why he was fed up.

There were some nice moments between Chase and Maggie during the search for Jeff and the baby. I thought Chase's death was pretty heroic and the aftermath felt realistically sad. I like that 7 starts off with such a sad note and then goes into outer space and never lets up.

Melissa is excellent in 6. The whole cast is. It's such a a weird and offbeat cast. I love it. I wish Dwayne was still alive too. Emma with the adopted kid was cute.

I couldn't figure out just why they were writing Chase so harshly. Yes, Chase could be a stubborn d!ck at times, but he was never so nastily mean. But knowing he was leaving at the end of the season, I guess they didn't care. Still, why completely decimate him? Maggie is raped and there's question as to the paternity of her baby, but Chase cannot find any empathy in him? Huh? And with Cole gone too, they did destroy that cornerstone of the show.

Pair that with Vickie being absolutely terrible....

The new producer, Jeff Freilich, didn't like Foxworth (although Baby Joseph did). So that probably worked its way into the writing.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. The disdain for Chase was so palpable, there had to have been something else going on.

I say: explain it as one of those brain tumors I'm so fond of for Season 7 -- so far, he's the only guy who has one, leading Angela to humph, "Well, at least we've finally integrated this issue....!"

How do we know Chase had a brain tumor, too? They can either drag his body out of the bay, or everybody just assumes he had a brain tumor because now so does everyone else!

Damn you, Jacqueline --- damn you!!

I'm serious.

I dunno
Season 6 was honestly refreshing after the somewhat soap opera drabness of season 5 - it's fun, especially on the first watch but doesn't hold up that well with rewatches because I think the "expect the unexpected" element is a part of the appeal. Season 7 unfortunately takes season 6 to the next level in the worst possible way - it just never feels like they stay on a storyline long enough before moving on. Add a revolving door of guest stars and it kind of just becomes a blur.

It was not a stolen baby. Maggie put the baby up for adoption. It was a legal, closed adoption through lawyers of the parties. It just happened Melissa was the adopting party. It was properly explained to Maggie by the woman in the adoption agency. She gave up her rights then changed her mind when she found the baby father was really the jerk Chase. It was considered a legally binding adoption contract until they found out it was Melissa who adopted the baby, then they considered it a stolen baby, that was totally wrong.

Of course, the baby was "stolen" or "abducted" by Melissa because the adoption was not legal. Melissa used the name of dummy parents' (the Hudsons, allegedly from Los Angeles) to deceive the adoption agency (and had manipulated the paternity test earlier, which led Maggie to believe the child wasn't Chase's).

The adoption per se was legal and with a real couple, the Hudsons, otherwise the lawyers won't go through with it, the other attorney was Maggie's own lawyer, remember? She even emphasized to Maggie that it was a closed adoption. However, it was a manipulative move since in the end, it was discovered the Hudsons left the house after the baby was adopted and probably were paid to act as adopting parents by Melissa. So, yes, it's true that she took the baby out of spite for Chase and Maggie who took Joseph away from her to send to Cole in Australia.
