I like that they seem to use the same music. Can't wait for the first episode and very excited for the intro as well!

I think the first five seasons or so of GOT is about as good as TV drama gets, followed by such a decline that I hardly cared at the end. I found myself left with surprisingly little fondness for the series.

And so I will be watching this one with a combination of optimism and skepticism. The trailer provoked no reaction either way.

I think Game of Thrones started to go downhill when they didn't have any of the books to go by anymore and had to just make it up as they went along. As far as I know House of the Dragon is a story that has already been fully told in the books and so has already got an established ending. So there is more hope it will be like good Game of Thrones.

I think it's true that GOT began to decline in quality when they ran out of source material to adapt. Up until then, GOT had 5 novels totaling something like 4200 pages to pull from. DANCE WITH DRAGONS is based on a single book that's not even a novel but a fake history; and only a section of the book at that. So the producers do have an ending to work with -- heck, I even know what it is! -- but not much material to really adapt.

But that's not really even my concern. I believe the new show has different producers and showrunners. Its strengths and weaknesses may not be the same as GOT. The ending of GOT just left me sour on the franchise. I don't think I'll even read the next two novels, if they're ever released.

But I will certainly give the series a shot, with fingers crossed.

I don't think it really declined, rather that it was insanely rushed. Like the showrunners were over their obsession with the novels and wanted to move on to the next project. The last season felt like a thousand things happened and no event was given more than 5 minutes.

I loved MOST of what happened at the end. The only character's ending that I didn't love was Jaime's. The rest was quite fitting and some of it surprising in a good way. I especially loved that what everyone expected was all wrong. I hate predictable endings.

I think "insanely rushed" is a creative decline. I don't disagree that the main issue towards the end was with pacing. There was enough plot left to last at least 3 seasons, and it was tossed off in six episodes.

Yeah, the producers rushed it, because they thought they could do Star Wars next. I was kind of gleeful when i heard that they didn't get the chance in the end. :p

Thanks to my job, I got to see the first episode of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON tonight. No spoilers, but some general thoughts.

Everything one would expect from GOT is there. Epic in scope, impressive production, violence, gore, nudity, intrigue, and lots of familiar families. But no personality. Not a single character stood out, even with an obvious attempt at making one character a fan favorite. Sure, "first episode" and it could certainly get better. But GOT roared out of the gate in its first episode with characters that were instantly loveable or hatable. None of the characters here had much life.
