How Did the Ewings React to Capricorn Crude

Apart from J.R. during his appearances in Season 4 of Knots Landing, we never got to see the Ewings' reactions to Val's fictional tell-all book based on her life with them. I imagine they were all shocked and felt betrayed to varying degrees. I think Lucy would have been all for it. It is too bad Jock passed before this. I wonder what he would have done. I feel Sue Ellen's movie should have been her and Val teaming up to film Capricorn Crude. Any thoughts/ideas?

I would have loved to have seen Miss Ellie's reaction, given the hissy fit she threw about Donna's book on Sam Culver and the revelation about Jock's abhorrent behavior.

Would have been nice to see Lucy smirking about her mama finally getting one over on the Ewings.

There was one other brief mention, when Val is having a business lunch with a reviewer or book critic or something... she says that Val's sister-in-law begged her not to publish it, for fear it would block the adoption of her baby... so it must be Pam. That one always sounded so odd to me. Out of everyone, I certainly was not curious to hear Pam's reaction lol... but yes, I agree with the others... Lucy, Miss Ellie, etc., would have been more satisfying.

I've always said this -- or perhaps Don Lockwood could have obtained the licensing for Capricorn Crude, and Val could distance herself from the lurid movie that resulted. (And that legal complication could have fueled the reason Sue Ellen really had it shelved for a while).

But, yes, I would have liked to see the Ewings' reaction to Valene's book.

And Sue Ellen could have finally had the film released by the final season, wreaking havoc throughout the family and Dallas society.

Miss Ellie would´ve read a couple of pages and said: "Ugh, this is too piquant for me!" as she gives it to Lucy, who would read it in the pool patio making sure Swellin would hear it!

I remember hearing at the time that Miss Ellie flew out to California, took a limo to the cul-de-sac, slapped Valene, then turned around and flew right back to Texas. A last-minute internal Lorimar dispute scuttled plans to show the footage on a very special crossover double feature similar to the reading of Jock’s will.

I never heard that one. And, I bet once Miss Ellie found out the twins were Gary's that Val was dead to her. When Val was presumed dead in 1992 to 1993 on Knots Landing, I bet Miss Ellie was ecstatic. That would have been a great moment for her and Clayton. to appear on there - to help Gary with the twins.

Val initially claimed that the characters were fictional, although she seemed to reverse herself when it was being made into a movie.
I'd suggest that the blonde on the bed and the brunette on the right were intentionally switched.

I always wondered why the show didn't hire someone to write an actual Capricorn Crude tie-in novel. I mean, if you can have Blake and Krystle dolls and perfumes and Falcon Crest wines, the novel seems like a natural effort at cashing in.

I thought the title was clever. A "ewe" is a baby goat (or something like that) and Capricorn's sky animal is a goat.

Capricorn Crude = Ewing Oil.

I always wondered why no one ever bothered to mass-market a version of Val's coffee.

A ewe is a female sheep.
I've always assumed it was a nod to Henry Miller's racy Tropic of Capricorn with a double meaning on the word "crude." It makes little sense otherwise since the actual tropic of Capricorn is in the southern hemisphere. I doubt that it has anything to do with sky animals.

Is it only a female sheep?

So my theory must be nutty!

Is a ram closer to a sheep than a goat is to a sheep?

Maybe Valene should have titled it 'Aries Auto-fuel' but then I'm no author.

they should make a series on one of the channels/platforms without the network “standards and practices” restrictions and fully embrace the great Lee Raintree’s salaciousness

You mean, Mama's oral skills? The most proficient in Braddock County (which is why they had to drop the name and the territory was absorbed into Colin County, because Daddy was the best at anal).
