How Did This Get Past the Censors?

I just watched S11 Ep 17 "My Bullet," the one in which Greg is grieving the death of his daughter Mary Frances and getting drunk, talking to her ghost, etc. But there is a very short scene in which Val, in bed wearing a lacy negligee, calls Karen to tell her she's just married Danny. (Ugh--hate that guy so much and hate her for being so stupid.) Anyway, during that scene, JVA's right nipple in all its glory is clearly showing through the lace. How on earth did this get past the CBS censors? Today, nobody cares, but this was 1990 when "family values" was all the rage.

I just looked at the scene in question.... and you are right, it is visible. But maybe it got past the censors given that she was wearing something, even if it was see through, and maybe they were focusing more on her face. I don't know. I just know that Dallas, Falcon Crest, St. Elsewhere, Chicago Hope, and China Beach all had a shot of a bare nipple and got away with it

Good catch, but that's nothing: Me and my Mack Posse Girls shared a video of MacKaren post coitus, the sheet is BARELY covering him, he heaves a huge sigh and dark pubic hair is clearly visible. Censors were either asleep, or utterly engaged...lol

But maybe it got past the censors given that she was wearing something, even if it was see through, and maybe they were focusing more on her face. I don't know. I just know that Dallas, Falcon Crest, St. Elsewhere, Chicago Hope, and China Beach all had a shot of a bare nipple and got away with it

And I just remembered John Ritter's scrotum shot in Three's Company. I guess they let these accidents pass back then because they didn't anticipate how ubiquitous rewind, pause, and zoom would be in the future.

In the case of both shows, it was late in their runs. It was the final season of Dallas, and the next-to-last season on Falcon Crest. I know in the Falcon Crest case, it was a scene between David Selby and Susan Sullivan after their characters were married and she revealed a little more than they intended to.

I was also reminded that there was another accidental wardrobe slip in an episode of Remington Steele as well, so it happened a lot.
