I think Katharine Ross had the perfect look for the innocent and lovely Frankie.
But it's like having Ali Mac Graw playing Krystle or Alexis.

I keep thinking about how Ms. Ross looked in 1983's "Secrets of a Mother and Daughter."

Absolutely gorgeous, and perfectly melancholy.

I don't think it would have mattered who played Frankie. The problem was not the actress but how she was written. This is a person who was selfish. She sleeps with her sister's husband who is also her husband's brother was her husband is serving his country in the Korean War. And let's not forget her deserting her son Jeff so she could travel Europe with no responsibility of raising a child. Frankie was not a sympathetic character.

The actress portraying her would not have changed that.

I'm not sure that the casting for any character doesn't matter.

It's the difference between a selfish character who's interesting and a selfish character who's not.
