I don't think Barbara Stanwyck would have brought the same level of wit and expression playing Angela, as Jane Wyman. She was good as Connie Colby though.
A character played by Barbara Stanwyck would have made a great rival for Angela Channing. Maybe she could have played Melissa's grandmother or Peter Starvo's sister or an ex-wife.

Susan came to Spain in the 1990s, they had already FIRED him from Falcon Crest in the ninth season and they asked him
Jane Wyman, the actress who plays «Angela Channing», is as arrogant as she appears in «Falcon Crest»?
Jane as an actress is back from everything. She is a case apart, she considers that she is above the other co-stars. If it weren't for the fact that she always thinks she's number one, Jane would be a very interesting woman to learn by her side.
Susan said that about Jane? That's really hard to believe and doesn't sound like her.

I somehow can't imagine Susan being that abrasive about Jane, despite any sour grapes she might have had about Maggie's shocking death. Over the years various stories and show publicity bubbled up; about other actors and their FC work with Jane, namely Lana Turner; male lead Robert Foxworth, Mel Ferrer, Italian movie star Gina Lollobrigida, Celeste Holm and English thespian Simon MacCorkindale. As always the source is very important, together with the tone and the content.

Was the detail hearsay or from the horse's mouth? People will then argue well all these actors can't be wrong. They were of course in a showbiz world and when a show is doing its very best to succeed in a ratings battle, you can have anything thrown into the equation. I would tend to believe what Susan said (please see below). Other core cast have been equally complimentary about Jane; David Selby, Lorenzo Lamas, Ana Alicia and Margaret Ladd.

Susan Sullivan speaks about working with one of Hollywood's Golden Oldies Jane Wyman, ('behind the scenes'; from season 1 until two episodes into season 9, 1981 - '89):

"Jane was a very strong influence and the most professional person I ever worked with. I have seen her battle through illness and fatigue and still keep working. She says: 'Let's get this done! We have a job to do.' Then everyone gets behind her. She is always willing to help younger actors. She gave instructions nicely and with humor. She once said to me: 'You can tell anybody anything if you do it with humor.' She ruled the set with a kind and intelligent hand."

David was Barbra Streissand's partner -who had already won an Oscar for Funny Gurl- in Un from Sand box 1972
In an interview with Cine Tele Revue in 1989, I talk about the two of them, the only one he praises as a person is Barbra.

Before working with a star like Jane Wyman, you were the partner Barbra Streisand's in “Up the sandbox”, in 1972. Is there a common point between these two women
— Yes, extreme professionalism and the constant need to stay on top.
Barbra shows up with a great demands in the work, for her and for the others. It is very gratifying. It is very gratifying. Especially since she also HAS A TREMENDOUS SENSE OF HUMOR. Turning with her is without stop overdoing yourself. However, a lot of filming, I have to admit it, don't give up the impression of working something extraordinarynary. Like many of people, in many others professions, we are satisfied with run the machine. Onne can't live and know everything the TIME THE EMOTION, THE MOMENT RARE.

Oh the grapes at dawn between Lana and Jane. Who stamped their feet first?
I can't imagine Angela and Jaquelinne treading grapes
Jane in The Yearling played Gregory Peck's long-suffering farm wife.
But in Falcon Crest she insisted on always being very well dressed, we cannot imagine her in jeans taking care of the vintage

SOD had more access to Knots's actors and producers for interviews/features/spoilers than the other three nighttime soaps, and that translated into SOD treating KL as their "favorite" soap, regardless of other factors. Which is not to say they did not deserve recognition---KL did have a well-deserved reputation for producing a superior product. In daytime, a different situation occurred with Days of our Lives, which got much more ink in their magazine than the higher-rated Y&R, AMC, and GH....and that cozy relationship reflected in their outsized representation in the SOD Awards. The old joke was that SOD stood for "Salem Overdose," with Salem as the fictitious town where DOOL is set. The favoritism of the SOD editors toward the shows that "played ball" with them became so pronounced that a competing publication, Soap Opera Weekly, sprang up with the mission statement to cover all the soaps equally and was very popular for a decade or so. Of course as soap viewership declined the soap press also declined, leading to the closure of most soap magazines other than SOD, though it is a shell of its former self. Events like the Soap Opera Awards also fell by the wayside, as even the Daytime Emmys faded into obscurity and lost its cache as a primetime event.
Michael Lee won several awards. Four in addition she presented several.Susan neither presented nor won any
It is a shame that at the 1989-01-18 gala she and David did not present the awards. David won for his role in the seventh season . That was when Jane presented the award
Or in 1988, January 18, David was nominated for the sixth season. They were filming the end of the seventh, another missed opportunity for David and Susan to present an award.
By the way, neither Linda Evans, nor Joan Collins nor Larry Hagman attended these awards.

David Selby did present at Awards November 16, 1986
When the 18th episode of the sixth season was filming
What a shame we didn't see Susan and David together
And at David Selby and Wendy Phillips on January 15th, 1990 they gave the 6th Annual Soap Opera Awards to the series Santa Barbara
It was when the end of the ninth season was being filmed.

Susan said it in this Vanity Fair interview JANE'S TURN by Dominick Dunne Vanity Fair, November 1989
Susan had lost her job. She had been led to believe that they were going to renew her contract of Falcon Crest
What she was going to say.
In the interview she gave to Soap Opera in 2001, she only mentioned Jane.
ROB: They haven't talked to anyone about doing an on-air reunion, have they?
No, I think because Jane [Wyman] is just too weak to do it and I think they feel they would need her.
In the interviews she did after finishing Falcon Crest, she never spoke about Jane again.
In the memoirs that Susan published in Hello in February 1988. After finishing filming the seventh season she said
I know that some of my "Falcon Crest" colleagues—I'm referring, above all, to the newer generations—felt a little intimidated by Jane Wyman the first time they had to work with her. It didn't happen to me
Of course, before I met her, I had great admiration for her, and you wouldn't like someone who has an Oscar, a ton of awards, and an incredible career. But, since I had already worked with very famous actors, this fact did not intimidate me at all.
I think what I like most about Jane is her professionalism, and this tends to be common to the entire generation of actors of a certain age. They have gotten to where they have gotten, because they basically live for their work, and they wouldn't know how to do anything else in life if they weren't actors.

As for the rest, as for Jane Wyman, the truth is, despite the seven years we've been working together, we don't know each other very much. I have not gone out with her outside of filming activities related to the series. When we talk, we talk about quite inconsequential things. I don't know, for example, now she just moved house and so did I, so our conversations lately have been about painters, furniture, new upholstery and things like that. I can't say I know the real Jane at all.

Jane was a great professional and a good actress but she always stayed away from the rest of the actors except Lorenzo Lamas.

Jane saya She told one reporter she enjoyed solitude. “I have always felt that I was essentially alone at the beginning of my life and that I will be essentially alone at the end of it,” Ms. Wyman said.

The SOD Awards were an extension/evolution of their "Soapy" awards, which were done via ballots included in the magazine. Though the televised Soap Opera Digest Awards were no longer voted on directly by fans/readers, there was always the feeling that the winners were more than just favorite actors/shows of the magazine's editors, since those who won the trophies tended to be covered more (and more favorably) by SOD than perhaps they deserved. It is a "one hand washes the other" type of situation where a show will benefit from SOD's frequent articles/chatter, while SOD benefits from the fans of that show buying more copies of the magazine. So while a show like Ryan's Hope might have been an objectively better soap (for example), they were never going to sweep the SOD Awards the way they might have swept the Daytime Emmys because RH did not offer its actors for interviews in the magazine as often, and RH fans didn't buy enough magazines to merit lots of positive coverage in the magazine. In short, the SOD Awards were never about objective quality the way the Daytime Emmys attempt to be, and not even on par with the People's Choice Awards as a popularity contest (as their Soapys had been). The SOD Awards were simply the editors of SOD rewarding certain shows, performers, and PR firms for helping them sell magazines over the course of the previous year.

Soap Opera Digest I believe has stopped the print issues and moved to online.

The quote about not knowing her is culled from Dominick Dunne’s Vanity Fair profile in 1989. These articles you quote from don’t appear to be the result of actual interviews with the subjects but from secondary or worse sources.

She was left to be raised by neighbours at quite a young age. Like a lot of self-made people she was resilient. She came up slowly and survived the decline of the studios. Johnny Belinda was released the same year as the Paramount decree that forced the studios to divest their theatre chains. Post- war income tax rates made it virtually impossible to accumulate any wealth in Hollywood unless you went into production.

David Selvy, the confused Richard Channing, is the most direct in this sense: «Without denying the professional and artistic category of Jane Wyman, I consider that her divisiveness is out of place. Despite his correct behavior, he does not integrate with us. She has built a wall next to which she is and on the other, the other artists and the technical staff. It's ridiculous!

Where is this quote from? I’ve never seen it before and it contradicts everything Selby has ever said publicly about Jane Wyman.

In 1989 David Selby received Soap Opera Digest's Outstanding Actor in a Leading Rôle: Prime Time award.
It would have been nice if Jane had given it to her but I guess Jane was too proud for that.
Wasn’t 1989 the year she was out sick? Seems to be more likely the result of ill health. Sometimes common sense provides a more compelling argument than innuendo which seem to be your specialty.

It’s an impressive list but how many of the stories related to those actors actually came from them? Ferrer’s beef was being let go. Lana Turner’s difficulties with the pace of television date back to The Survivors (1969). Coincidence? What were Gina and Celeste’s complaints? I just watched a recent interview with Morgan Fairchild where she mentions enjoying working with Wyman. She talks more about her friendship with Bette Davis but who’s going to provide a better story for viewers than Bette?

The woman has been dead since 1990 it isn’t like she was going to be in attendance. The perception that this is some slight or reflects poorly on her is ludicrous and overwrought. You’re grasping at straws.
