I can't imagine Angela and Jaquelinne treading grapes
Jane in The Yearling played Gregory Peck's long-suffering farm wife.
But in Falcon Crest she insisted on always being very well dressed, we cannot imagine her in jeans taking care of the vintage
She played a nanny in The Blue Veil, a farm wife in So Big and a secretary in Miracle in the Rain. But she was also dressed more fashionably on screen by Edith Head, Jean Louis and Bob Thomas. Milo Anderson did most of her costumes at Warners and on her TV series (maybe Orry Kelly once). She had the best of both worlds. She made Mr. Blackwell’s best dressed list a few times during the Falcon Crest years. That the part afforded her the opportunity to wear nice clothes was no doubt part of the appeal. Her age and the business attire helped her sidestep a lot 80’s fashion excess. She turned up in some of those clothes in her rare public appearances after the series ended.

David was Barbra Streissand's partner -who had already won an Oscar for Funny Gurl- in Un from Sand box 1972
In an interview with Cine Tele Revue in 1989, I talk about the two of them, the only one he praises as a person is Barbra.

Before working with a star like Jane Wyman, you were the partner Barbra Streisand's in “Up the sandbox”, in 1972. Is there a common point between these two women
— Yes, extreme professionalism and the constant need to stay on top.
Barbra shows up with a great demands in the work, for her and for the others. It is very gratifying. It is very gratifying. Especially since she also HAS A TREMENDOUS SENSE OF HUMOR. Turning with her is without stop overdoing yourself. However, a lot of filming, I have to admit it, don't give up the impression of working something extraordinarynary. Like many of people, in many others professions, we are satisfied with run the machine. Onne can't live and know everything the TIME THE EMOTION, THE MOMENT RARE.
Again if you apply a little common sense. Streisand was much closer in age to Selby than Wyman when they worked together, of course they had more in common. Streisand had some Actor’s Studio training and had begun in the theatre. Like Selby Streisand was at the beginning of her career not the twilight of it. Wyman was from another era. Her stage experience was primarily live performing in vaudeville or the like (bond tours). Her acting training was all at WB. By many accounts she had a very interior approach but it was very different from Selby’s. Their fondness for one another reflects well on both of them.

David Selvy, the confused Richard Channing, is the most direct in this sense: «Without denying the professional and artistic category of Jane Wyman, I consider that her divisiveness is out of place. Despite his correct behavior, he does not integrate with us. She has built a wall next to which she is and on the other, the other artists and the technical staff. It's ridiculous!
The last scene of David and Jane Wyman says it all. David has his BACK to Jane
Your dime store analysis of the blocking of this scene is laughable. You’re embarrassing yourself by continuing to behave this way on a public forum. It’s 2024, do better.

Are we really still pitting professional women against one another on 2024? It’s such a tired cliche at this point.

I realize you're trolling, but some of us were defending Susan over the quote and questioning the quote's veracity -- however, how are we to react when one professional woman pits herself against another? Is it still a tired cliche at this point?

David was the same age as the daughter. from Jane. And Jane the same age as David's mother.
But we never felt that Angela had a maternal feeling towards Richard.
With Lorenzo yes. It was clear that they loved each other a lot. These photos are significant, he holds Lorenzo's arm but not David. The other one is significant, cross your arms so you don't take David's

In this postcard David Speaks Falcon Crest .from Flamingo Road And Barbra, the superstar who had won a Tony and an Oscar
And he talks about how loving she was. He has NEVER used that adjective to talk about Jane

A shame because David is a very loving person..
And the entire Falcon Crest team was one big family. And Jane was never the matriarch of the group
In this postcard from June 2020, almost 40 years since David appeared, he comments
"I never had a I don't know I never had a we never had a there was never a disagreement there were only hugs hugs and kisses and lunches together dinners together let's do this let's do that and just good good support and respect for each "other"
Jane holds Lorenzo's hand very affectionately

Jane dressed very well, everyone admits it. But sometimes they clashed. See Lauren Angela's wedding, she is wearing a LIGHT BLUE suit and some impressive earrings. Lauren, wife of a millionaire and sister of another, is much worse dressed

There is no credible evidence that there was any professional rivalry between Susan Sullivan and Jane Wyman. Susan continued to do charitable work for the Arthritis Foundation, a major philanthropic interest of Wyman’s long after she left Falcon Crest. This might just be a coincidence but it might not. Susan is and always has been a class act. Trolling co-stars is completely out of character. Her post Falcon Crest career has been a tremendous success. There is plenty of credible evidence that the latter years of Falcon Crest weren’t easy. Pretty much all the nighttime soaps ended badly in creative terms.

. Susan continued to do charitable work for the Arthritis Foundation, a major philanthropic interest of Wyman’s long after she left Falcon Crest.
Susan has a lot of class. And she's not going to speak badly of Jane but she's not going to speak well either.
In Spain he spoke more freely and had an interview for La Vanguardia, one of the oldest newspapers in Spain. In 1990,
Jane Wyman, with whom Susan Sullivan is said to have had a run-in.
“No, the thing is that Jane Wyman is an older person… and she looks a lot like Angela Channing,”
And in her memoirs to the very prestigious Hola magazine in 1988
[...] I know that some of my colleagues from "Falcon Crest"—I'm referring, above all, to the new generations—felt a little intimidated by Jane Wyman the first time they had to work with her. It didn't happen to me.
Of course, before I met her, I had great admiration for her, and you don't work every day with someone who has an Oscar, a ton of awards, and an incredible career. But, since I had already worked with very famous actors, this fact did not intimidate me at all.
[...] As for the rest, as for Jane Wyman, the truth is, despite the seven years we've been working together, we don't know each other very much. I have not gone out with her outside of filming activities related to the series. When we talk, we talk about quite inconsequential things. I don't know, for example, now she just moved house and so did I, so our conversations lately have been about painters, furniture, new upholstery and things like that. I can't say I know the real Jane at all.
It may be that they were involved in activities related to arthritis. They saw each other but they were not soul friends.
There is plenty of credible evidence that the latter years of Falcon Crest weren’t easy.
On February 10 of this year Susan tweeted this photo that she took during the filming of the eighth season with this comment 1988-11
"At a certain age, your memories will bring you great delight and satisfaction" Davd retweeted it.
1710407955033.jpeg

I think the team got along fantastically and their friendship has continued for years. In this photo from 2022, 40 years later, David met with the locker room manager and the president of the German club.
Since 2005, David has not lived in Los Angeles but in central California, so the fact that he met with them on a visit to Los Angeles is good proof of the affection that David has for Falcon Crest fans and his teammates.

.
Dark Shadows made David a pop idol in 1968. This series has been replenished many times, its 1000 chapters have been released in videos and DVDs. They have held festivals to gather their fans, the last one in 2021.
The majority of David's fans in the USA are from Quentin Collins, not Richard Channing, but David has always been very collaborative with the German club.

In 1998, the president of the German club tried to contact Jane Wyman. After exchanging several letters, he received a response from Jane's employee telling him that she was retired and a signed photo. Jane was 81 years old.

What a shame it would have been an unforgettable interview given Thomas' affection for Jane and her exhaustive knowledge of the series.
In August 1999 David gave an extensive interview to Thomas. He is always affectionate with his fans.
In March 1998, Oprah Winfrey, one of the most important figures on American television, interviewed the entire cast of Dark Shadows on her program The Oprah Winfrey Show. She was a big Quentin fan. And then without a problem he met up with Thomas.
In 2020 she dedicated this very loving memory to his fans during confinement.

Jane Wyman didn’t control how people reacted to her - none of us do. I’m sure some people were intimidated. Susan and Wyman were colleagues, not friends. Why is that a problem? Susan was 25 years younger than Jane Wyman. Wyman talked about how during the series she didn’t often see her friends but mostly kept up with them on the phone. It’s not surprising she wasn’t looking to extend her social circle.

It would have been wonderful but after 60 odd years in the business people are entitled to be retired. Her response seems to depend on the day. She did the extended TCM filmed interview and Bing Crosby biographer Gary Giddens says she was very cooperative. Van Johnson biographer on the other hand got the cold shoulder as did Reagan’s Edmund Morris. Why is her choosing who she wanted to speak to so triggering?

Thanks for mansplaining their body language for us. I believe what David actually said about Jane Wyman not your speculative interpretations of how they were posed in a picture.

Her character was supposed to be hostile towards his character. That was how it was scripted.

She was his colleague not his mother. Lorenzo was younger and having some personal struggles it isn’t surprising she had a different relationship with him. She had been a bit of a party girl in her early studio days after all.

Thanks for mansplaining their body language for us. It is the most important thing in life and on the screen.
A picture is worth a thousand words
The hostility between them worked wonderfully..The problem is when they became mother and son
Both off and on the screen they respected each other, they were good professionals and good actors.
I guess the problem was what Susan said.
David had starred in films or theater in plays with great actresses and superstars Barbra, Geraldine Page, Joanne Woodward, all Oscar winners. Friend of a superstar like Paul Newman, and known to such important people as Tennessee Williams. So Jane didn't dazzle him. Yes, I respect her as a great professional. He never said she was a great actress,
David never spoke badly about Jane or ANYONE as or the same comment in an interview was like Pollyanna only saw the good in people.
Also in the old days of the studios and contract players, the young actors were taught how to conduct themselves in interviews. They never said anything negative about anyone, and that training is still evident today.
Lorenzo was a very sweet and loving person. No wonder Jane loved him.
The problem with this is that the mother and son relationship in the series did not work.

Lorenzo's visit. The problem is that NO ONE else from the cast visited her.
As for his health, the delicate state of his health was always made public. That the doctors had forbidden her to shoot anymore.
But she lived 16 more years after finishing the series and when she was interviewed for Vanity Fair in September of that year, the journalist saw her as a little thin but apparently in good health.
Bob Crutchfield in his interview talks about going to see her in the hospital when she missed those two episodes in Season 5 and she asked him not to come back so it isn’t surprising the cast didn’t go to see her she probably asked them not to come.

If you’re thin enough to comment on in Hollywood you are too thin. Context. She looked very fragile in those final 3 episodes of FC. She wasn’t seen a lot in public after Falcon Crest but she looked very fragile in some appearances and more robust in others.

Are we talking about two professional actors (one in her sixties and the other in his forties) at work or children at a sleepover? Adult professionals aren’t trying to “dazzle” one another and they certainly aren’t keeping a scorecard of whose friends are more distinguished. That a grown adult thinks they were is sad and insulting to both of them.

Also David Selby came to prominence on television in 1968 he never had a talent contract with a movie studio or was trained in the studio system. What are you talking about?
