Are we talking about two professional actors (one in her sixties and the other in his forties) at work or children at a sleepover? Adult professionals aren’t trying to “dazzle” one another and they certainly aren’t keeping a scorecard of whose friends are more distinguished. That a grown adult thinks they were is sad and insulting to both of them.

Also David Selby came to prominence on television in 1968 he never had a talent contract with a movie studio or was trained in the studio system. What are you talking about?
Harry Harris told TJP He left no doubt they had creative differences from time to time. “She was everybody's boss,” he described the situation on the set. She sometimes refused to play scenes in a way the director wanted them to be played. “She said: ‘I’ll do it my way.’ I said: ‘Okay, you do it your way, but I want you to know that I am really pissed off…” He described that he was sometimes mad at her. But she would come over to him after a while as asking if he was still pissed off. “‘Yeah!’ I said. 'Because I am the director, and you have to do what I say, and if you don't like it, I'll get out.' So we made friends that way…” he smiled. “And we made a pact that when the series is over we would still stay friends, […] and we did.”
And if she behaved like that with the director, how would she behave with the other actors. Harris was a good friend who continued to see her until she died. But the rest of the cast only Ana Alicia or Lorenzo called her on the phone

Bob Crutchfield in his interview talks about going to see her in the hospital when she missed those two episodes in Season 5 and she asked him not to come back so it isn’t surprising the cast didn’t go to see her she probably asked them not to come.

If you’re thin enough to comment on in Hollywood you are too thin. Context. She looked very fragile in those final 3 episodes of FC. She wasn’t seen a lot in public after Falcon Crest but she looked very fragile in some appearances and more robust in others.
David commented in one of his books
Another very nice thing that happened because of Dark Shadows was that one day I got a phone call at the studio from Joanne Woodward (wife Newman). Joanne explained that she was calling for her mother, who was a big fan of the show
and of Quentin. Joanne was wondering if her mother could come to the studio to watch the show. Of course I said she could. She did, and that was the beginning of a long friendship. Over many years, my wife and I had a delightful time with Joanne's mom.
Although they lived in different cities, David and her wife visited her until she died.
David told this beautiful anecdote very excitedly in a postcard min 37
Joanne said in an article that she realized that her mother had problems when she couldn't remember me.
He never mentioned that he visited Jane or called her after she finished the series.
Jane's last days were very sad, her dead daughter. She lived like a recluse.
When Jane died, her son preferred to preside over a charity golf tournament rather than fly directly to Palm Sring.
A very sad funeral. There are barely any photos

Apropos of what? I wasn’t there so I wouldn’t presume to characterize her last years. However I was at least on the same continent which makes me a better source than you. You’re born alone, you die alone that’s how it happens. She outlived most of her friends. Wasn’t it Bette Davis who said aging isn’t for sissies? When Wyman died Michael Feinstein talked about visiting and playing for her. Bob Crutchfield said it was hard to see her in the last few years as she receded. It seems quite clear she wouldn’t want people to see her like that. I’m not particularly fond of Michael but it seems her health was deteriorating and she was 90 so her death was hardly a surprise. What was him rushing to Palm Springs going to do? Nothing for her, she was already dead. He made a very touching public statement. Who wants or cares whether their funeral is photographed? She was photographed plenty during her life I doubt she was to concerned about the coverage of her funeral. Oh and she was dead not traditionally a big photo op. Are you for real?

When friends paid to put a star in Palm Spring besides screenwriters Stephen Black and Henry Stern. They lived there. Two persons in charge of the wardrobe and the actor who played Richard's assistant in 3th seasob. No cast member came forward to be there. It was in May 2014
In May 2015, a DVD tribute to Earl Hamner was presented, almost the entire cast met

Newsflash Jane Wyman couldn’t make it she had been dead since 2007. It was a lovely gesture by her former colleagues who lived in the area but it was a posthumous honour. That is Earl Hamner in the photograph, alive. You do understand the difference between honouring someone who is elderly but still living and someone who has been dead for 7 years right? Only one of them is going to be there to appreciate that you came and reminisce. Can you figure out which one?

Being number one on the call sheet has its privileges. Would we be talking about this if it was Larry Hagman on Dallas or John Forsythe on Dynasty? Probably not and if we were I doubt it would be to try to undermine their work or make assumptions about their character. Let’s acknowledge this for what it is good old fashioned sexism. And we do know from the Vanity Fair profile that at least one young actor did approach her and she was very receptive. Susan Sullivan in that same profile talked about how Wyman used humour to convey her opinions.

As the president of Lorimar said, Larry was God.
Dallas was a great success as was Dinastia.
Falcon Crest was never that successful and at the television star level Jane was never Joan Collins or Harry Lagman.
Regarding the interview that the actors were going to say in an interview about Jane.
I wonder what Jane would think in this article there is a lot of talk about Reagan.

9 seasons and syndicated all around the world, Falcon Crest was a success by any industry standard. Lorimar made plenty of $$$ on Falcon Crest. Hagman and Collins were great successes on television but neither were major movie stars. Of course Wyman had stars on the Walk of Fame for both film and television since 1960 because she was a star on both.

Created in 1958 by a Californian artist, Oliver Weismuller, who was hired by the city to give Hollywood a "facelift," the walk of fame s
The original walk of fame had 2,500 blank stars. A total of 1,558 stars were awarded during its first 16 months
They would give to all the Oscar winners and famous TV actors. That's why they gave two to Jane and I suppose to many actors who are completely forgotten today.
Earl Hamer had to collect a percentage of profits. He didn't charge anything as he told @TJP Falcon Crest only had losses

Newsflash: time marches on that’s how life works. Stardom is always fleeting. Her film legacy lives nearly 70 years on:

Her stars are still on the Walk of Fame as well as her imprints at Grauman’s alongside both the forgotten and the remembered. Given she’s dead probably not a big issue for her but your concern is touching.

Profit participation starts when the production company says a show makes $$$. Doesn’t mean it didn’t make plenty of $$$ for Lorimar it just means it didn’t make $$$ on the books that they had to share. Jane got paid either way.

I’m just listening to Streisand’s autobiography. She talks about her own reclusiveness. Preferring to stay home and keep to herself. You can imagine this might be true for a lot of people who have lived in the public eye. Especially in Jane’s era where they usually made an effort when appearing in public. Joan Crawford after series of what she thought were unattractive photos of her and Rosalind Russell at an event were published with not very nice captions just stopped making public appearances.

Streisand has a whole chapter on “Up the Sandbox” but David’s is mentioned in just one sentence as playing her husband. Apparently he didn’t make quite as big impression on her as she made on him. No dazzling. You’ll have to let us know what it means.

I recently also read the Paul Newman’s posthumous memoir. No David as I recall. Maybe it was one of those blink and you’ll miss it type things. I’m sure you’ll be able to explain what it means to the rest of us.

Well, no wonder he didn't impress her.
She was a superstar. Although she was very kind to him Davis comments that she was sweet, affectionate with a great sense of humor.
She invite him twice to her house and to a concert .Jane NEVER invited him to her house as David complained in the Vanity Fair interview
"Never once has she asked to be excused from standing in while the other actors in the scene are having their close-ups. She would be upset if you did your close-up without her. She has never once been late. If we go out to dinner, we go to her favorite little spot. I've never been to her apartment."
Neither sweet nor affectionate nor with a sense of humor

Paul Newman was a great actor, person and philanthropist
I think the last book was made by collecting opinions that his friends had recorded.
He had many friends. I guess everyone is more interested in Houston's opinion than David's.
David, his wife, and his son went to the Newman house many times.
If he doesn't work in any movie it's because he was 15 cm taller.
I really believe that he had a friendship with Joanne Woodward.
But Paul Newman was so kind that he accompanied Joanne to see a performance of David in 1971. And talk to him before shooting the movie with Barbra. He advised her "don't stay in Hollywood. And don't let Barbra dominate you."
In 1978 when David was performing a play with Joanne,. That's why I don't play Gary Edwin in Dallas Reunion
1712400464526.jpeg

At the end of the show Paul brought her a couple of beers.
In 1996, Joanne, who was in Washington, went to the theater to see him perform Much Ado About Nothing.
At the end of Falcon Crest David gave two critically acclaimed performances of Crucible and Night Iguana.
Jane didn't even go to see him, They were her colleagues but not friends.
David has never boasted about his friendship with the Newmans; he has never talked about them in interviews. Yes in some Poscards from 2017 and 2020
In and Out of the Shadow a compilation of photos of David work in film, television, theater. There are no photos of the work with Joanne and when Paul died in 2008. I don't comment anything on your blog

David was Barbra Streissand's partner -who had already won an Oscar for Funny Gurl- in Un from Sand box 1972
In an interview with Cine Tele Revue in 1989, I talk about the two of them, the only one he praises as a person is Barbra.

Before working with a star like Jane Wyman, you were the partner Barbra Streisand's in “Up the sandbox”, in 1972. Is there a common point between these two women
— Yes, extreme professionalism and the constant need to stay on top.
Barbra shows up with a great demands in the work, for her and for the others. It is very gratifying. It is very gratifying. Especially since she also HAS A TREMENDOUS SENSE OF HUMOR. Turning with her is without stop overdoing yourself. However, a lot of filming, I have to admit it, don't give up the impression of working something extraordinarynary. Like many of people, in many others professions, we are satisfied with run the machine. Onne can't live and know everything the TIME THE EMOTION, THE MOMENT RARE.
Streisand talks quite extensively about the film in her autobiography but not him. I think it is in one of your posts you mention Streisand only having him to her home with the rest of the cast and crew of the film. David and Jane had numerous one on one dinners. Seems like a much more personal relationship and it extended over a much longer period of course. Streisand is also much closer in age to David than Jane so their relationship would have had a completely different dynamic. Neither was romantically involved with him and their work with him was more than a decade apart so they weren’t in competition with one another. His affection for Jane is well documented.

Always suspicious of interviews conducted in one language, translated for publication and then translated back into the original language. So much room for error.

It’s been a minute but I remember really liking Up the Sandbox.

In “Six Degrees of Jane Wyman” I just realized her one degree connection to Streisand wasn’t limited to just David Selby. The 2nd Amanda Fallon pilot was co-written and directed by Frank Pierson who co-wrote and directed (sort of) the 1976 version of “A Star is Born”. Now him Streisand talks about extensively in her book.

Show biz is a small world. One of the producers of “Raise the Titanic” which David starred in, Bill Frye, also worked on that 2nd pilot. He also worked on the GE Theatre with Reagan and moved in the same social circles as Jane when she lived in Palm Springs.
