The video below is a narrative chronology of Jane Wyman's life. There are good stills shown, talk about her marriages most notably to the 40th American President Ronald Reagan eight decades ago, all Jane's films and of course last but no means least, FALCON CREST. Ms. Wyman's final resting place brings the tribute to an end.

Angela joins a conversation between Emma and Julia. Julia is officially declared on the run, since she escaped from jail last season. Then she was thought to have died in the springhouse fire, only to appear alive and well in the vineyards but then ended up kidnapped by Riebmann and his cartel goons. The shadowy organisation that is the cartel are now dead and buried with the treasure, in the tunnel, (a scene from season 4, 1984 - '85):

Angela: "That was Chase on the phone. He said that the tunnel collapsed again and there is no way of getting Riebmann out of there."

Angela puts her hand on Julia's shoulder: "He also said that he would not tell the Sheriff that you were here, at least not tonight."

Julia looks glumly at Angela: "What is going to happen to me, mother?"

Angela embraces her two daughters: "I'll think about that tomorrow but tonight we are a family!"

Freeze frame on the three of them; fade to black, the credits commence, along with the closing theme tune.

It's from Season 4 Episode 19 Retribution
I like this scene better

Angela
I was awake all night; thinking about the things that we said to each other; I'm sorry I was so harsh.
Angela
And I'm even sorrier that I've let you down:Falcon Crest has been my whole world: In sorne ways; I loved the land even more that I loved my own children:
Julia
This is the first time I've ever heard you apologize about anything:
Angela
We're going to get out of this, Julia; and I'm going to make it all up to you. We're going to be mother and daughter again:
Too bad I never had one of this style with Richard

According to her children, she was not the mother of the year
Michael Regan in his autograph gives a disgusting image of Jane Wyman. He describes her as a cruel nd cold mother who abandoned her children to pursue her career, her marriages, and her dogs.
Gene Nelson, Mauren Regan's boyfriend, recounted:
When I met Maureen, she was a woman who suffered a lot, who did not deserve all the disasters that had happened to her. Her mother, Jane Wyman, had practically abandoned her and her brother Michael as children, enrolling them in boarding schools when they were just five years old, in order to continue their careers without interruption, which was what really interested her.
When he deigned to speak to them, they were so hurtful and brutal that they usually ended up crying. Jane has a tongue like a razor and is capable of wounding and destroying. She's like Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, always playing the big game

Acting is a profession that requires a certain amount of vanity, narcissism , persistence and deceptive behaviour. I know a few actors and actresses and they share some of the known negative clichés. I wouldn't invite them home and they think I'm too distant (I'm not but my emotions don't wait for a reaction shot). Sooner or later they act in your face and you're lucky if it's only for a few seconds and one sentence. If not you notice that they don't stick to their stories. You know them for a few years and they hope you have amnesia: Fantasy and real life seem to mix a bit. It's never boring with them though. Keep their company because it's entertaining. But if I had kids would I trust them enough to babysit? Never! Because they rehearse in front of a mirror in the floor while their baby is crying in a noise-insulated child's room.

These stories about famous bad mothers in Hollywood are all too similar and I wonder whether books from today's kids have another view to offer in 30 years? Why did the fathers of them so little or nothing to keep the kids after a couple's split? In the 1950's-70's it was much easier for a father to take care as sole legal guardian. But mostly they didn't. I know there are some "Dad was the worst" books too but not nearly as damaging to the legacy of them. Neglect of children "to pursue" a career - isn't that something that describes every actor-father who has one?

Now think about children born into very poor families. Also get neglected because anyone has constantly to work (not to pursue a big career) and no time to play or cook). Sometimes the state's child service for emergency cases look for them but it doesn't change their lives. The children of the richest and the poorest both suffer because of work and neglect. Only this isn't the topic.

What I miss in those bad mother stories is a reflection on a systematic error that produced terrible upbringings (e.g: how irresponsible adoption agencies act). With today's perspective the stories appear to be very one-sided appeasing to a conservative view on mothers. So I don't deal with the specific history of the actress in the thread title or her children because they are people like us with more or less weaknesses. Some of them have decent kids who enjoyed wonderful childhoods - the majority of those stories are untold because they don't sell as good as tragedy.

I'm surprised at this. I've never heard anything bad about her from her costars. Even Lana Turner said their "feud" was made up for publicity.
So does this mean Jane can now be added to the pantheon of golden age movie stars who turned out to be bitterly cruel people contrary to appearancs? So far as I know there's
Bing Crosby
Bob Hope
Joan Crawford
Bette Davis
Lauren Bacall
Gary Cooper
Errol Flynn
Clark Gable
Lucille Ball

Sorry, my English, I use Google Translate It's not the profession, it's the personality.
Meryl Streep and Audrey Hepburn very good mothers and wonderful actresses
Joan Crawford, Bette Davis and Jane Wyman no.
They were very ambitious and like many people in many professions being STARS not actresses was the goal of their lives.
In the case of Jane Wyman that gives her a certain emotional coldness that shows through in her role and I refer to what the actress who voiced her in Spanish commented
Pilar Gentil: It's nice to play, "she says," but I don't see anything special; he has a very strong line, which does not change.

I'm an actress and I don't agree with this. In my experience we're some of the most sensitive, deep thinking and kindest most astute people you will ever meet. A lot of what we do is based on observation of others behaviour. Although perhaps you're talking about some of the big big Hollywood movie star names (which doesn't always require a huge amount of acting skill I might add)?

Please don't put us all in the same box, because you've had a few negative experiences.

Do you remember the mother Mary Tyler Moore played in Robert Reford's Ordinary People
She is unable to understand the feelings of her son.
By the way, photo of Angela's emotional moment that was quoted at the beginning of the thread

Of course you think that. ;)

I didn't write about my negative experiences. I wrote about experiences. None of them I would call negative! But the actors almost always displayed some of the negative clichés about them. Yes it's not representative. It's my impression based on my experiences. They're not all in the same box but a lot of them are. And anyone of them would underline your quote I've commented with the blinking emoji except they wouldn't use a blinking one. Because they miss self-deprecating. An exaggeration by me... [And to correct another exaggeration: I let actors into my home. I had to...:love3:]

I really like them despite their flaws. They're very entertaining, one can discuss every emotion with them and the straight ones are the most open-minded queer-loving people I know... but still: not perfect!

I've interviewed Hollywood actors but didn't spend enough time with them to actually know a private side. They have acting skills though if Academy Award winner or nominee is an indication.

Meryl Streep and Audrey Hepburn very good mothers and wonderful actresses
Joan Crawford, Bette Davis and Jane Wyman no.
They were very ambitious and like many people in many professions being STARS not actresses was the goal of their lives.
That's an interesting difference I also see.

-The quote: it couldn't be more the opposite of what Ricky Gervais would say about actors. "Self-irony" is what I should have used - now that I checked my comment with Google Translate which gave "self-deprecating" a different meaning.

-Queer: I find actors generally more accepting than people in other jobs I knew.

I sometimes wonder what to believe and whether family members are encouraged by publishers to exaggerate their comments about famous parent. At Jane Wyman's funeral, her son Michael said she was a good mother but tough. When he wanted a bike she bought him one but told him he would have to work to earn the money to pay her back. She didn't want to spoil her children and wanted them to know the value of money. Some people might consider that cruel, others will say it was good parenting.

Begs the question what if Jane had best the "first lady' to the 40th President? I always thought she had an uncanny resemblance to Nancy.
I don't think she was very well liked by the Falcon Crest actors.
Neither went to her funeral.
Not when she got a star in Pasadena I can't imagine her as the wife of a politician

But that's not true. She was great friends with David Selby and Susan Sullivan always spoke very warmly about Jane. Both Abby Dalton and Simon MacCorkindale said Jane was their favourite cast member and additionally Abby said Jane was the only actor on the show who she stayed in contact with after Falcon Crest ended. In fact, I can't think of any cast member that didn't like her and most have commented on her professionalism and dedication.

Selby Wyman friendship as true as the one he had with Turner.
Selby once said : the confused Richard Channing, is the most direct in this sense: «Without denying the professional and artistic status of Jane Wyman, I consider that her divism is out of place. Despite her correct behavior, she does not integrate with us. She has built a wall on the side of which she stands her and the other, the other artists and technical staff. She is ridiculous!"
You just have to look at the last two scenes of the last chapter Selby turns his back on Jane they don't even look at each

At the end of the wedding with Lauren when Jane puts her face so. He neither kisses her nor touches their faces
To Lance however she shakes her hand

Where are you getting this stuff from? It just doesn't ring true and don't confuse the actors with their characters.

This is from David Selby's website when Jane Wyman died:

"As many of you may have heard, we have lost a great actress and a great, passionate, classy woman who was always very dear to me. She was the consummate professional, and you always knew where you stood with Jane... I sit here and the tears flow for a dear, dear person who was so kind to me and taught me so much. I loved her as did others who were blessed to cross her path — that is unless they were late or didn’t know their lines."

That corroborates what so many actors have said about Jane: Lorenzo, David, Sarah Douglas, Simon MacCorkindale, all say in interviews how decent and down-to-earth she was, but you needed to earn her respect and to be on time! I don't know where all that other stuff comes from...
