Do you buy lots of dvds/blu-rays, or do you prefer to stream movies, go to the cinema, watch them on the telly or rent? Do you save the purchases for your absolute favorite flicks?

And what was the last dvd or blu-ray that you bought?

I bought some dvds today;
  • Pirates of the Caribbean 5
  • Aristocats
  • Aladdin
  • Atlantis
  • The Muppets season 2
  • How the Grinch stole Christmas
  • Little Women

I am a dvd and book hoarder.

  • A Christmas Carol (with George C Scott)
  • Picasso's Adventure (Swedish)
  • Medium (the TV series) seasons 1-3
  • Falcon Crest seasons 1+2
...wondering where I will have room for everything I've bought the last month. :confuse:

I finally bought Trevligt Folk (Nice People) by Filip Hammar & Fredrik Wikingsson (the two men - and best friends - in my signature picture below).
It's a documentary about an integration project in a small Swedish town, where they gathered some of their Somalian refugees and taught them to play bandy and compete, for Somalia, in the World Championships.

I love everything Filip and Fredrik do, which most often is funny, crazy and sometimes a bit bizarre -- but always with curiosity and an interest in people. This project was quite different from what they usually do, but probably more important.

Alien Anthology - okay so the last two aren't so good

There are many who will be horrified by this but I'm quite a fan of Alien 3 for its atmosphere, darkness and some great character actors*. Maybe I'm biased as it's the first film from the series I watched.

Ridley Scott's original is tops with me though.

*I actually prefer the third film to Aliens, which at times I find too noisy and bombastic. Don't get me wrong, part two is a great film, but the military/action genres don't speak to me that much. Also I'm put off by the arrogance evidently shown by Cameron and Hurd towards the British craftspeople at Pinewood.

Starting with Alien 3 must have given you quite a different perspective on the first two. I imagine you would have seen them almost as prequels leading to an inevitable future, without the deep sense of betrayal felt by a lot of us who had followed the saga from the beginning.

The fourth, Alien Resurrection, has Sigourney Weaver as a clone of Ripley. It's not as bad as it sounds. Alien vs Predator is surprisingly good. At least it's a different take on the subject and I liked the new lead character's growing relationship with the Predator even though I found the actual Predator movie dull and didn't watch any of those sequels. AvP2 I haven't seen and I have no real interest in Ridley Scott's prequels - I did watch Prometheus on TV and didn't understand it.

Thanks @Seaviewer, I think i will only buy the Alien Ressurrection on dvd or blu-ray with Sigourney Weaver, because without her it isn't a Alien movie for me. So i will stick only to those four movies. I have seen Alien vs Predator but i'm not really a fan of the Predator movies. And movies that i don't really understand for the first time, i never wanne see those movies again.

Yes, I'm sure having seen Alien 3 first made for quite a different viewing experience, even though it was perhaps a further decade and a half before I got round to watching all four films in order.

I'm intrigued by your comment about the betrayal. I know the fate of Newt and Hicks wasn't popular with many fans. Was it this that caused the sense of betrayal? Or the film's ending? Or something else?
