Can you guys help make a long list of movies featuring spectacular outside views? Like the French riviera, the fjords of Chile or Norway, mountain tops, Tuscany, the African savanna, archipelagos, rural country sides etc etc.
Can be anywhere, any country, as long as the views play a big part.

Eat Pray Love comes to mind for me. I believe they filmed in Italy, India, and Indonesia. I was never crazy about the movie itself to be honest but visually it was quite stunning.

The opening shots of The Sound of Music (1965) shows spectacular views of the hills and mountains of Austria filmed from a helicopter.

but what location is The Day of the Jackal?
Hey! I didn't expect to be quizzed!

Black Narcissus (1947) is mouthwateringly gorgeous, and then there's the panorama of The Shining's Overlook hotel.
Here, I'll save you the trouble plodding through the film itself.

All David Lean movies from 1955 onwards:

Summertime (1955) - Venice

The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) - South East Asia

Lawrence of Arabia (1962) - Middle Eastern deserts/Mediterranean

Doctor Zhivago (1965) - Russia (filmed in Nordic countries and Spain)

Ryan's Daughter (1970) - Ireland

A Passage to India (1984) - India

I had discarded that movie because it's labled a war movie (not my favorite genre). I have always assumed it was just a film about trying to destroy an important strategic bridge or defending it, in some (possibly former) Asian state. Never bothered to learn more about it.

But with those images, I just might have to reconsider.

^^^ Oh, it's definitely not a typical war movie. It takes place during a war but I would rather define it as action adventure. It's one of my favorite movies with a spectacular ending.
