Hi all,
I returned from Dallas and I wanted to share my final thoughts with you.
After the "Southfork Experience" with the cast, I visited the major filming locations of the series. (There is a great youtube channel - Our 80s Life which made it very easy for me. I can only recommend it:
)
It's quite remarkable that they used basically every noteworthy building/site of Dallas. I found it quite amusing how close some sites were eg. Barnes Wentworth, Oil Baron's Club and Jenna's condo.
After the busy convention I got a tour at Southfork which was great and got some information I never heard of (eg. they shot the show in the July/August because the owner at that time did not want his children's school lifes disturbed or how they used wide angle lenses to make the pool seem bigger which is tiny in reality.)
I loved walking around the premises and sit at the glass table next to the pool (funfact: the table is my age), taking tones of photos. There is also a museum - I have never seen anything like that for a TV show, many props and newspaper articles which I never read/heard of before.
In conclusion: It was a once in a lifetime experience which was long in the making and I'll never forget. If you're a fan and have the opportunity to visit, do so. They mentioned that the owner died 3 years ago and his children now decided to sell the place. Construction plans have been published, you'll never know what happens.
I like(d) other series before, but not in that extent like for Dallas (buying DVDs/books, joining a forum for +20 years). That pilgrimage to Dallas/Southfork feels like something has come full circle.
