I like them! :D

With over 20 albums and 44 singles its impossible to choose which song to post first. So I decided to start with their latest release and work back from there.

In tough times we wanted to reach out with a new song. We can’t play live for a while, but music is still
something we can all share together. We hope you enjoy it… until we meet again

Show me somebody who doesn't like them and I will inform the First Order....:tv1:

So I decided to start with their latest release
It's hard to believe that its been 5 years since they released Music Complete. Be a Rebel feels just like any of their 80s singles and the lyrics are as uplifting as their music is - always.

I regularly feel a burst of energy in me when I listen to their music.

I noticed that SUBSTANCE was finally available on Spotify, I have no idea why it wasn't there, but very much loving it right now. Even though I have the album, I only listen via Spotify these days and so it was really exciting to jump back in and catch the remixes.

We hope you enjoy it… until we meet again.” – Bernard Sumner
Too much, I need a new album.

If I didn't know when it was released I would've guessed it being just two years ago , it still sounds fresh and I play it at least once a week.

It certainly cheered me up and the lyrics are very appropriate for whats happening right now.

I need a new album.
I am desperate for more.

I have just discovered that in October they're releasing a box set which will include:- the ‘Definitive Edition’ of their 1983 masterpiece Power, Corruption & Lies. As well as the album itself being re-mastered and pressed to vinyl, the box set includes two CDs containing unreleased writing session material and the band’s 1982 John Peel session, two DVDs capturing New Order live at The Hacienda and Kilkenny, their 1984 Play At Home documentary film, and a 48-page hardback book of rare photos and new essays. .... I want it!

Its pricey at £130, but I could justify that as it will become a collectors item, thats my excuse anyway

Having just mentioned John Peel, maybe he could do with his own thread on here? So many artists es participated in The Peel Sessions such as - Adam and The Ants, Marc Almond, Bee Gees, Blur, Bronski Beat, Elkie Brooks, The Cure, Echo and The Bunnymen, The Jam, Ladytron, Morrisssey, Pulp, etc, In fact, over 2,000 artists.

I pre-ordered TFF 1989 album (The Seeds of Love) that is out October 9th. It's a super deluxe (or whatever they call it) and will cost me £50 and I was a little concerned that it was priced too heavy. Now, having learned about the 'Definitive Edition' of Power, Corruption & Lies I don't feel bad at all. But then at the same time, I'm now wanting this edition.

That sound like a fab idea, so many artists have featured that we could spend years going through them :D

I was thinking, as this is page one, why don't we do a top ten of our favourite NO songs and then do it again every few months.

Picture the scene Mid to late 1980s disco, BF dancing round her handbag in white stilletos, sprayed on tight trousers (coathanger to pull zip up - of to be that skinny again tho)
and the record i always asked the DJ to play was New Order Blue Monday - 12" preferably - but it always seemed to be the one I got stuck with a boy I didnt want to dance with and wished it was a 3 mins record then i could speed off in the opposite direction!

oh those were the days.................:jg:

I am sure that album will be precious to you and compared to the New Order one, you can think of it as a bargain :D

It should keep keep us busy for at least 10 years or so  I will post a John Peel thread soon, just need to read up a bit more about him.

Ooo this thought brings me out in a rash

:jk:

Lol! .. its just that I know as soon as I've posted my top ten I will be changing my mind about the order. It wont be easy, but I try to make a list of my top-ten

New Order should've been in the middle of their American tour right now, which would have finished with a one off show in London during November. Goodness knows when they will tour again.

I haven't forgot to do this, its a work in progress...

I was listening to this cover of True Faith recently, its sung by Denise Johnson who was a backing singer for New Order, Primal Scream and The Charlatans. She was due to release her debut album this September, but tragically she died suddenly in July. As a small tribute I thought I would post her version here.....

She sung the backing vocals for the New Order song Plastic, among others.

Just dropping these two chart facts, well, a mid week chart fact.

I was thinking (the other day) about The Killers and their tour. I have been watching the new album in the charts and it's not doing as well as their others which made me wonder how different it might have been having they been promoting it on tour.

Do you know what the New Order tour was for? Was it a greatest hits, tour or did they have a new album planned to play with?

I haven't forgot to do this, its a work in progress...
Oh, I still need to wrap my head around it. I feel it will be very much about Substance or Power, Corruption and Lies.

My number one would probably be this - from 2 minutes onwards,

.. and this too, I will get around to it
Haha There is no rush, we're not going anyway and if this virus isn't sorted we could be stuck in here for many a year to come.

She was due to release her debut album this September, but tragically she died suddenly in July.
Oh, that is so sad.

As a small tribute I thought I would post her version here.....
That gave me tingles down my spine.

:rip:

I'm tagging @Jason73 as I know he's a fan of the song.

I'm back to say that I was just looking on Spotify and only typed the first three letters DEN and there she was Denise Johnson, it's like Spotify must have known I was listening on YT to it.

And she is there, so I added it to my current playlist.

Thank you for posting this and I am thrilled to see Blue Monday is back again! along with the release of Power Corruption And Lies :hats:

I dont know, but I would've thought that most artists sell more albums when on tour due to all the promotion they would be getting in the media. I also feel for the support acts who are missing out on getting what might be their biggest breaks.

Do you know what the New Order tour was for? Was it a greatest hits, tour or did they have a new album planned to play with?
I've not been able to find what set they intended to play, as far as I know they didn't have a new album coming out, maybe they wanted to promote the re-release of Power, Corruption And Lies? .

It was called The Unity Tour which they were co-headlining with the Pet Shop Boys, wow! they intended to take it in turns each night for who would open the concerts.

My number one would probably be this - from 2 minutes onwards,
Perfect! This is New Order at its best and it still sounds so new, could've been released today. This song was before Blue Monday, but you can hear some Blue Monday in this, its a fantastic choice f yours.

That gave me tingles down my spine.
It did mine too and now when I play Plastic I am very aware of her vocals too.

@Jason73 has great taste in music :D

Thats spooky when computers know what we want before we ask ..lol

And she is there, so I added it to my current playlist.
I am glad you like her voice and I am going to look up more of her music. I would like to still see her debut album released posthumously , maybe their are reason why they are unable to do this? it would be a wonderful tribute to her.

Holy cow! That's the best thing I've heard in ages! What an absolutely beautiful version of that song. It's been added to my Spotify Favorites list. I also added her Sunshine After the Rain--gorgeous!

New Order and Erasure are two groups that I have Ome to thank for--he really helped me get into their music. It's one of the many lasting impacts of my friendship with him because both of those group's music have brought me lots of happiness. And I feel like I've only scratched the surface with them both. I haven't listened to New Order in quite a while. I'm going to listen to my New Order playlist on the way to work tomorrow.

She did have a beautiful voice didn't she and I am so pleased she now has a couple more fans at least, who appreciate her talent.

I love hearing this:D

Both bands make such inspiring music, I am still working on my top ten New Order list (I've had a busy week lol) do you have a favourite song of theirs Jason?

That sounds a perfect way to start the day. I always enjoy listening to favourite music loud in the car.

I also like the link between New Order and The Killers, it was only last year (I am slow) when I realised how The Killers got their name.

True Faith is my favorite. Other favorites are Bizarre Love Triangle, 1963, and Touched By the Hand of God.

I always forget about that connection. I loved the song they did with Brandon, Superheated. It's on my list of favorites too.

True Faith is my favorite.
Mine too :)

At last I've managed to post just ten of my favourite New Order songs, it sort of feels wrong to leave some of their other fanatastic songs out, but I might mix them around when I do another top ten in a few months time.

1. True Faith (1987) - This was the first New Order song which caught my interest and despite hearing it a million times I’ve never tired of it. It never reached number one in the UK charts and peaked at number 4.

2. Temptation

3. Vanishing Point

4. Everything’s Gone Green
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afJ-GmpgDQM

5. Blue Monday (such a special song, on another day it could be up nearer the top of my list)

6. Bizarre Love Triangle

7. Your Silent Face

8. Plastic

I just came across this today, its New Order on 7/8/20 discussing 'Blue Monday', the writing process behind it and the legacy it holds.

My all-time favourite is Confusion, but not today. I found myself going back to the song that introduced me to the band. I remember feeling all tongue twisted as I tried to memorise the colour of the eyes as he sang about them.

1. Temptation
2. 5 8 6
3. Confusion
4. Krafty
5. Crystal
6. State of the Nation
7. Thieves Like Us
8. Blue Monday
9. 1963
10. True Faith
