I don't consider these protests necessary because they're not drawing attention to the cause. You want to make a statement about climate change? Fine, then go after the corporate polluters, the fossil fuel industry, and the politicians who do their bidding. Throwing soup at artwork is a faux protest that does nothing to address climate change.

Only Warhol got the balance right.

Extinction Rebellion have targeted the oil companies for their protests but it didn't attract as much attention as did the protests involving works of art.

The current spate of action, such as throwing soup at a Van Gogh painting, is to get the public asking questions about why we are allowing our governments not to take the necessary action to address the problems of climate change. Whether we support their action or not, they have succeeded in their objective.

This is the funding info for these vandals
A group called Climate Emergency Fund, based in Los Angeles

Exactly.
They could have targeted anything, but art is considered very precious, like we should consider our planet a precious thing.
It's all about that metaphor, unfortunately people aren't smart enough to see the bigger picture (or painting) and that's why they only scream "vandalism!"

Remember how clean the world became thanks to Covid? Remember how equally powerful we all became because anybody could be a ticking time bomb?
Don't think small, think BIG.

Why yes, let's insult people who didn't pick up on their esoteric metaphor. Clearly climate change deniers should have been swayed by a soup splattered painting!

But not to worry, I'm sure corporate polluters will go green immediately. Good luck getting all of the poors to buy solar panels and electric vehicles, though.

As for Covid, all I remember is how tyrannical and authoritarian people got in the name of safety. Now those same people are demanding amnesty for their "mistakes."

Yes, and importantly, they have chosen targets and a form of action that doesn't cause any permanent damage. When Just Stop Oil have blocked motorways, it causes major disruption to the lives of ordinary people but this action against works of art raises attention to their cause without impacting negatively on most people so it alienates fewer people while gaining more attention for their cause.

I would prefer if they directed their action towards fossil fuel companies and governments who enable them but I can't deny that their action has got more people talking about the issues of climate change which is a good thing.

is the average person really talking about climate change after this protest, or are they talking about someone throwing soup at a painting?

Most of the people I've seen mentioning climate change in connection with this protest were aware of the problem already.

I am glad that the painting itself wasn't harmed, but I also understand why some people are confused and just see vandalism.

Jeez oh, I usually change my car every 3 years but didnt at the start if Covid and have a 2016 plate so 6 years old

Thought id change it next year, its beginning to rattle and started looking around at cars and options

Lets look at Electric thought I - just about passed out at the price tag - starting on average at £30 000 plus - and very few charging spots north of the border and it wouldnt get me to friends in England

Lets not bother i thought so a hybrid it will be!

Listened to 5 Live on car journey home from work

More annoying Protesters up on gantries on M25 (Personally Id leave them there and let cars pass as normal or get the water cannon out) :(

and was HEART BREAKING to listen to a son who due to their SELFISH ACTS wss unable to get to or attend the funeral of his late father today as the roads were shut and he was also a Pall bearer

I find that obscene, shocking and so B:censer: y inconsiderate and thoughtless ITS A DISGRACE!

he wont get a chance to attend his fathers funeral again and I just hope they (annoying protesters) all lose someone and cant get to the funeral for same reason

There was also a woman on whose family were unable to attend the funeral of her husband on Tuesday although she made it

And also ambulances that couldnt get through and essential supplys like bloods for hospitals

I know if i was in that sons shoes - it would haunt me for the rest of my life that I wasnt there- I couldnt begin to imagine not being at my mums funeral - - and I hope each and every protester hears about that and reflects on it = but i bet they wont give a stuff
Rant over -

Now these clowns have managed to get a tennis match at Wimbledon briefly suspended with their antics.

I’m sure China will be happy to cut their carbon emissions because these yahoos spread orange glitter on Court 18.

They’ve already caused hours-long waiting lines because of airport-style (though apparently ineffective) security checks.

I read their dream protest is to glue themselves to the Center Court. If so, I say just leave them there glued (even if that’s what they probably want) and play on. And if a ball hits them in the head — oh, well.

I liked Germanys answer in this previous post

Why dont they just go and do a proper days work instead of annoying just about everyone on the planet :slap:

If they want support for climate change, they are antaganising most people I know (who do support climate change - but not by their way) and yes Russia, China and Co are going to go on as before.

And all the so called Greens who attend at Glastonbury who like to pontificate but leave a huge pile of crap behind them

Thanks to this pesky little thing called mortality, there will be no tennis when we die either. We're already on the Titanic. Might as well let the band play on.

Besides, all they're doing is drawing attention to themselves with these stunts. Inconveniencing regular people rather than taking substantive action doesn't impress me. Let's see them take the fight to giant corporate polluters and politicians. I would have more respect for their efforts then. What they're doing now just makes them a public menace.

I wish people were more concerned about our planet being habitable in the future than they are about a few jigsaw puzzle pieces being thrown on a court at Wimbledon.

And in terms of preventing that from happening, these shenanigans are as effective as Facebook avatar activism or posting on SoapChat/TellyTalk. Massive audience notwithstanding.

Many liberals today are actually making things worse with respect to climate change, racism or LGBT+ rights

Because the primary engine that drives their behavior is the narcissistic “look at me, look at me! (or my trans/non-binary child!) I’m such a good, loving, caring person. Not like them! They are scum! Affirm me. Like me. Retweet me! And cancel them!”

And for that reason, they are no better than prostitute politicians in places like Brussels or Washington who just say things to get votes from their target group electorate, but never do anything effective.

Can I have your address so I can splatter your home with paint, glue myself to your porch, block your driveway, and throw puzzle pieces in your yard? It's for the planet.

Oh, and please have a television crew on standby. I have to make sure all of the polluters out there see what I've done so they will change their ways. Thanks in advance.
