In the last decade since Coronation Street rarely won at the soap awards in 2013 deservedly, it put into perspective really and proved just how wrong EastEnders has been losing its way as such and a mystery as to why its still on air. The BBC ought to dispense with it like Channel 4 did with Brookside eventually, maybe even taking producer Phil Redmond's advice on the BBC and Channel 4.
And so, if the last decade has been anything to go by, EastEnders has hit the skids completely with ridiculous farfetched storylines that are so unbelievable, so to the best of my knowledge so far, I will try to name some of them:-
1) Kathy Beale returning from the dead (It never rang true to the character of Kathy, and the least Gillian Taylforth could've done was return very very briefly in 2006 despite being committed to ITV's Footballer's Wives drama series, there was NO excuse for her to refuse like that and taking her acting role in EastEnders for granted like that and the post 2015 version nowadays).
2) Gavin Sullivan (Kathy Beale's lover in South Africa from the turn of the century until 2015/2016) with Gavin turning out to be Sharon's biological father.
3) Shirley Carter retcon from being Mick Carter's sister to becoming his mother.
4)The homeless car lot fire death victim from 1994 retconned to being Jay Brown's biological father.
5)I'm a bit unsure about this one, but arguably the euthanasia storyline where Dot assisted Nick Cotton to die from a drug overdose (coincidentally it was that same 30th anniversary episode with Kathy's return).
6) Sharon Watts MARRYING Phil Mitchell. I would've expected the storyline to have been similar to Michelle and Lofty with Sharon ditching Phil at the altar and/or even stating that very reason because of her history with being married to Grant. The marriage as it occurred until the end of 2019 onwards, Phil wasn't "the nice side of Grant" as Sharon mistakenly put it in 1994, and NO "she never married the wrong brother". The only time she was stupid enough to marry the wrong brother was when she became naive to how Phil completely changed 20 or so years later and him being abusive and drunk to her and even more abusive and physical with Kathy even WITHOUT Grant around during 2016+. Even Grant treated Kathy and Sharon BOTH with more respect back in 2016 and reflected well on his past actions. I actually enjoyed Grant's 2016 return because he was reunited with Kathy, Sharon and finally knew about Mark Jnr being his son. Peggy's death and shouting match at Phil, it was very well acted with Sharon stood between them.
7) Denny's death in 2020 via the sunken boat - Phil should've been killed off in his 30th year of the show from 1990/2020 INSTEAD, it's almost disgusting and sickening how the storyline panned out.
8) Sharon and Keanu.
9) Sharon getting married to Ian Beale.

Q: Meanwhile, does anyone else have any similarly ridiculous farfetched storylines they can remember in EastEnders?
