When Rod Taylor joined the show late in season 7, his character Frank Agretti wasn't exactly welcomed with open arms by his niece Melissa. However it was a different story when he showed up at the Victorian mansion, to see his old friend Angela. The gift he brought wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. That being said Angela was glad to see him. You can see Rod's first scenes in the video below.

Rod Taylor gives his view on joining the cast of the show, with Jane Wyman as the top billing star, ('behind the scenes'; from season 7, 1987 - '88):

"It's amazed the hell out of me that I found so much on FALCON CREST, to sink my teeth into. We're doing some fine work on that show and I'm getting a charge out of it, like you wouldn't believe."

It was Jane Wyman who insisted on bringing Rod Taylor who was 16 years younger. As friends they were fine but as a romantic couple!
It would have been a good support for Melissa but since she was killed in the eighth
The ninth was in total disaster, they tied him up with a vicious Genele and made her an accomplice in the murder of his wife, I ended up in jail and she wasn't even in the last episode

As I read in a magazine, it was the cause of Cesar's dismissal The actress declared herself equally innocent before the "dark" cessation of César Romero, her next romance in the series. To begin with, she managed to get her name to appear in an inconspicuous place and to be allowed a few minutes before the camera; the dialogue, in turn, was also cut out
. The reason? Romero's artistic agent is clear about it: "There is no doubt that César's attractiveness to hers stole the close-ups and that drove her out of her boxes." Although the actress limited herself to saying at that t on that occasion: 'I have nothing to do with this story. She was cut off from the show for scripting reasons. " Since Romero first appeared on the plates of "Falcon Crest," Jane's character has become more irascible. She kept her composure at work, but she wouldn't stop complaining. You already know the end, Peter Stavros left the Tuscany Valley to take refuge on a Greek island and never return. Jane had gotten away with it once again.

Melissa's extended family should have been introduced earlier. It would have given Melissa more to do and set up an interesting dynamic between the Agretti and the Channings whichever family Uncle Frank decided to side with.

I liked Rod Taylor.
But Falcon Crest is a saga with decades of rich history. It's a very chaep move to introduce characters we've never heard before (because they've just been created).

It did not work with Jack&Jamie in Dallas or "Cousin" Sable in Dynasty and it didn't work here.

Oh, I totally disagree with that. Sable totally worked on DYNASTY. And I never saw Jason Ewing's introduction to DALLAS' backstory as the "retcon" so many did.

Adding things to the backstory is totally acceptable -- in fact, necessary. It just depends on how it's handled.

Maybe with AI we could insert a scene in episode "Home Again" (Garrison returns) with Jock telling J.R. what a lousy beech his own brother Jason was ("but don´t mention it to your Mama", he would add!).
