Since SoapChat has been down forever it's almost time for the next episode, but still...

Either way, Sam opened up La Mirage and Dominique's secret step daughter Vanessa arrived, who Dominique seems to favour more than poor ole' Monica. I guess this means that Vanessa might get dibs on an opening title spot?

Poor Adam is blind, but gets a nurse who doesn't seem to like Cristal much and it looks like they'll start scheming against her. Ooops!

The show remembers about Kirby stealing Femperial from Fallon and Fallon tries to buy it back, then tries her old fashioned sabotage against Kirby who almost surrenders, until she realises the real reason why Fallon wants Femperial - to get back into Liam's pants. So she keeps it to spite her.

Fallon, realising that all her ties with Liam is gone is suddenly rebounding with Trixie's brother.

I can't wait to see the Nu Nu NuAlexis. I want a huge trial for Blake, a powerful Alexis, and drama, drama, drama.

Anyway, about this episode, at least, now we know what the title referred to...
But it should have been :

"Step Mother? I'm at LaMirage"

Not only did they address the loss of Femperial, they remembered Jeff is terminally ill.

This episode took place about a week after Adam got blinded at the house party. Cristal hires a therapist-type named Nadia who will be tasked with helping Adam get acclimated to life without sight. The implication is that Cristal and Nadia worked together at the spa in Sedona, but given the way they've augmented Cristal's background and shown her ability to scheme, her time as a lowly employee at a spa now seems like an out-of-character job for her. Whatever the case, Adam is deeeeep into the whiny self-pity and it is eye opening for the viewers who've never seen him totally in control of his surroundings.

Though Liam decided to stay away from Fallon in the previous episode, he realizes that his passport and several personal items are still at the manor. He calls to ask Fallon to send them to him; she claims she'll have to look for them "when she gets the chance". Of course the passport is right there at her fingertips.

Fallon has decided she wants her company back (Femperial, that is). She marches over to make Kirby a low-ball offer to buy it back, making a crack about it being "take your unqualified daughter to work day". Kirby won't bite, even after Fallon doubles the offer. In fact, Kirby has someone lined up to be the new CEO. It's obvious from the staging that Kirby spent the night with Victor, the soccer player she met at the (still-unopened) hotel.

At the doctor's, Jeff is told that chelation therapy might slow the progression of his condition, but it isn't curable. Jeff has also apparently acquired a music streaming service, and Dominique hits him up for a job as a musician manager. Apparently she also worked in talent management when she was in NY. He's non-committal.

At the hotel, Sam is bemoaning the fact that Hootie and the Blowfish cancelled, so he has no musical act for the Grand Opening. (No big loss, I say) They claim that they chose the name La Mirage because that was the name of the hotel back in the 1980s. The staff has been lined up, and we see the rooms are mostly complete. Dominique goes to the bar to get a drink from one of the new hires, Vanessa. Dom takes the drink and immediately flings it onto the girl's apron, scolding her step-daughter for coming to Atlanta when she was ordered to stay in NYC. Vanessa is an aspiring singer and announces that she wants to have her music on Jeff's streaming service, and hopes to get a record deal on Monica's label. Dominique tries to explain that these things take some time to manipulate into place.

Fallon consults an attorney regarding how she can undo the Femperial sale. The attorney is Evan Tate, naturally. He points out that though Kirby owns the company, Fallon owns the office building it is housed in, so Fallon can toss her out on the street if she likes. And yes, she likes. She also asks Evan if he would be her date to the Grand Opening of La Mirage.

Nadia is trying to get through to Adam that he needs to learn some basics for fending for himself unless he wants to be home-bound forever. Worse still, Adam overhears Cristal telling Blake that they should look at putting Adam in a 'facility' somewhere if his vision isn't improving. Nothing would please her more than shipping him off to Shady Pines (Golden Girls reference). Once Nadia gets wind of how Adam and Cristal don't get along, they seem to have bonding point because she doesn't have much use for Cristal, either. Why is that? Who knows. She also seems to perk up when Fallon refers to Adam as a psychopath. She seems....almost intrigued.

Cristal and Blake are worried that the judge assigned to his trial is going to send him to a 'facility' too, so Cristal hatches a plan to get the judge tossed off the case. She meets with the judge and shows him a photo (staged? doctored?) of the judge's son meeting with her brother Beto. Daddy Flores has apparently offered to make the world believe that the judge is in the back pocket of the infamous Flores family. It's not true, but the judge recognizes that the "air" of scandal is more than enough--so he ends up recusing himself.

Sam somehow learns where the singer Ashanti (honestly, I don't know her work, but apparently she's a big deal) attends yoga when she is in town, so he ambushes her there and gets her to agree to appear at the Grand Opening. He could have saved a wad of cash by just turning on the gas in Fallon's room and having her belt out a few tunes.

Also, Fallon makes some phone calls to get people to attend the GO. Dominique asks Jeff to go with her. Blake's on house arrest so he and Cristal can't go.

The GO: Fallon asks Kirby if they can call a truce. After Kirby gets a bit tipsy, she realizes Lauren, her top pick for the CEO position, is there (seeing her drunk). Kirby soon realizes that several of the other CEO candidates are also there, fuming because Kirby referred to Lauren as the "top pick" out loud. Turns out Fallon had invited all the ladies to the party just to cause this scene and make Kirby look like the amateur she is. Kirby angrily points out that Fallon only wants to keep Femperial because it's her only way to keep hold of Liam (which is true). Evan gets angry and leaves since Fallon's still hung up on her ex.

Vanessa brings a drink for Ashanti, who promptly gets violently ill and can't perform. Vanessa quickly steps in and starts singing. Jeff recognizes there is some kind of link between this singing bartender and his mother, so Dom claims Vanessa is a girl Dom represented as an agent back in New York. Jeff also immediately figures out the girl drugged Ashanti. In a moment of weakness Jeff confesses to his mother that his condition is terminal.

Kirby's soccer-player friend Victor comes downstairs to party (against Culhane's direct orders). He tries to keep any pictures taken of him from being posted to social media, but of course that's a fool's errand. The goons who have been looking for him now know where to find him, which they do; in the alley, they rough him up and hit his leg with a baseball bat.

Fallon, having realized Kirby was right about her attachment to Femperial, drops by Liam's to give him his box of things. She tells him she still loves him, but doesn't act all desperate about it. In fact, she goes back to the manor to find Evan on the doorstep and they go inside the house while (intercut) we see Liam back at his place, having some memory flashes as he pulls items out of the box.

I haven't watched this episode yet because without the site being up to read everyone's thoughts here afterwards there was no motivation. I'll get around to it before the next episode, maybe.

I wonder what Nadia and Adam has in store for poor NuNuNuCristal? Maybe they'll find a lookalike to replace her with...

But I have to add to your (detailed as always) review what a spectacular job Sam Underwood is doing. His superior performance, week after week, is almost beginning to make me find the hour interesting--to paraphrase real Dynasty.

Either have Nathalie Kelley or Contreras play her, and all the Carringtons are fooled, while the rest of the world can't understand what they are smoking.

I do understand (and it's real bad stuff).

Nadia stands for Diana, that stands for Dana.
And yes, Cristal.4.0 aka Rita is surely coming. And her name will be Tria. I mean, they can't mess Nu Dynasty enough.

Fun fact : Tria name means "The third child". Tria/Rita would be the third face to incarnate Cristal Flores (even if she's a fake one) as Nat Kelley was Celia Machado.

I thought it would have been interesting if Nadia was reboot Dana, whom Adam would recognize if he could see her. But the plot point that Cristal and she worked together in Sedona gives the impression they have another story in mind for her. She might end up at the bottom of the lake, too, now that they've opened up some space.

I fully expect at least one of Nadia, Trixie's brother and Vanessa to end up dead somehow. It's just a bit too many recurring characters to suddenly introduce at once and not have at least one of them snuff it.

My guess though is that Dominique will push Vanessa to pursue Jeff since he's dying and she sees it as a way to his fortunes, while Vanessa will be banging Michael all along...

I am 99% sure Evan is going to try to destroy Fallon one way or the other...it's just a question of whether it will be physically trying to murder her, frame her for some crime, or otherwise put her behind bars. Given the non-subtle writing, I lean toward #1, and probably a retread of the original situation (Evan tries to push Fallon over the balcony or drown her in the lake). She might be saved by newly-sighted Adam or newly-remembering Liam--either way, Evan ends up leaving sooner rather than later.

It would be kind of neat if Nadia is a spy planted in the house by Papa Flores, keeping an eye on what his daughter is up to and collecting intel on all the Carringtons, with the reason she doesn't seem to like Cristal being that Nadia's not there voluntarily. Papa Flores hatched that deal with Blake to launder online gambling money through the soccer team and to generally play fast-and-loose with the rules....but now that the team is (majority) owned by Michael, Papa Flores might be really upset with Blake, Fallon, and his daughter Cristal for messing up his lucrative arrangement with the Atlantix. Michael also might also want to look over his shoulder if he starts pushing back against his 'silent partner'.

You're writing Dynasty better than their writers! This would be a very cool business story but more for Succession than this Dynasty.

@tommie: I also think Dominique is able to marry off her daughter Vanessa to her son Jeff - before he dies! Very creepy but for this Dynasty more realistic than a decent business story. ;)

However this season is a big improvement to Season 2. Liam isn't the only one who remembers the past, the writers are too. And I just love Sam Underwood and Michael Michele - they need big scenes together!

…. but not if Jeff takes a page from Fallon's book by agreeing to a quickie marriage to invalidate the financial arrangements set up prior to his intended marriage to Vanessa. Instead, he will marry Alexis before he drops dead, and thus fulfilling the fortune teller's prophecy and setting her up to be at war with Dominique for another hundred years.

I think the biggest issue was that they weirdly tried to keep a "self-contained" vibe in a lot of season 2 episodes to perhaps to try and lure some new viewers in, while in season 3 they seem to have given up on that and are now just running continuing stories.

The only thing that bothers me is Cristal really, because like @Daniel Avery says her backstory of working at a spa makes no sense. I guess the further away from that they get and move on to just "bad ass Cristal" it'll fade eventually, but this really shows that rebooting the character in season 2 wasn't well-thought out.

C2 was depicted as estranged from her father (the whole family, really) because she was uncomfortable with his being a crime boss. At best she kept him at arm's length (calling but refusing to come visit, etc.) and this discomfort made her appear to be the "black sheep" of her family. And yet now she has not only approved of Blake murdering someone, but she's enthusiastically married him and helped him in all efforts to weasel out of being punished for the crime. If they're trying to make us believe that the miscarriage changed her outlook (that is, she thinks it's fine that Blake killed the man she thinks caused her miscarriage, and wants Blake to get away with it), then they need to remind us of that, because right now it just looks like she's a gangster moll.

I recall the interview with the new show runner just before the start of the season, in which he said that Cristal was being written this season as ‘less scary, and more real’, or words to that effect. I’d say we’ve yet to see it.

It was kind of an interesting twist to see them be Bonnie & Clyde last season for a bit, but it’s flat and uninteresting to see that be the whole of their characterisation. They had got the moral compass/darker side balance right with Nathalie Kelley as Celia-Cristal in S1, but had to screw it up since. And I actually don’t mind Daniela Alonso. But things need to get back to having Cristal be a bit less unpleasant.

I agree. I like Daniella Alonso, and she has a better chemistry with Grant. She fits better. But, she's written like Ana Brenda's Cristal (scheming and manipulative) and is not "less scary" (whatever meant the new show runner, and I remember him saying that)
